Happy New Year!

Thought For Today – December 31
Happy New Year!
By Robert A. Searles

Tonight, most likely, the wine and liquor will flow like water.  For many, the sacred vows of marriage will be desecrated.  It is likely that many illegitimate babies will be conceived, only to be aborted later, because they are really the unwanted accidents of a  night of pleasure and sinful passion.  The highways will be crowded with drunks, carelessly taking the lives of many innocent  victims.  Satan will have his heyday, for this is new years eve, the beginning of another year of ungodliness and selfishness for those who know not God, nor do not care to know  him. These are the lovers of pleasure.  They love pleasure more than they love God, choosing rather to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.

How sad it is to look upon the faces of  these pleasure seeking revelers on the morning after, when the fun is over!  The so called friends have departed, and the filth and confetti in the streets must be cleaned up.  Depression in soul and spirit begins to overcome the heart and soul of sinners when they come to the realization that there is only pleasure in sin for a season, but in the end, only sadness and destroyed lives.

Yet, more sad is the fact that many so called Christians will  be among this flock of revelers, with their horns, and bottles, and banners, and noisemakers, not being distinguishable as Christians from the rest of the ungodly, worldly crowd, forgetting their covenant with God who has sacrificed  his son to save them.

What better thing could there be for the Christian, the redeemed child of God by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, than to begin the new year in fellowship with God's people, in a place of worship, around the lord's table, remembering the precious blood and  sacrifice that was made for them?

As Joshua of old  has said: “I know not what course others may take, but as for me  and my house, we will serve the  Lord.”  To begin the new year we will be thanking God for the past year's blessing and provision for us, and looking forward to another  year, if God wills, to remain in fellowship and communion with him, and be faithful in his service.

This kind of new year's celebration far surpasses anything that the ungodly world has to offer with its' noise and tumult, rebellion, and noisemakers.  God says:  “Be still and know that I am God.”  Begin the new year with respect for God and his word.  Be  thankful for your salvation. Be ready and willing to serve him where ever he sends and whatever he asks.

How about it, brother and sister in Christ, what are you doing tonight? I would like to hear your comments.

May the Lord be with you during the coming year, and may you abound with blessings!

Disobedient Children

Thought For Today - December 30
Disobedient Children!
By Robert A. Searles

Parents, how does it feel to go through the pain and  anxiety of child bearing to bring children into the world, to nurture them through babyhood And adolescence, only to have them rebel against you and be disobedient and disrespectful ?

Think of how it must grieve God when he  has gone through the great pain and expense of saving us and redeeming us, and causing us to be born into his family, only to see us disrespect him and rebel against his laws and commandments.

It hurts tremendously when the one you love with all your heart slaps you in the face, as it were,  and turns against you.  God loves his children with a  love  that far surpasses all  human understanding; how he must be hurt when we ignore him!

“Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the Lord hath spoken.  I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.  The ox knoweth  his owner, and the ass his master's crib; but Israel doth not know, my people do not consider.” Isaiah 1: 2,3.

These words spoken primarily to Israel are applicable to us today as well, for we are all guilty of rebelling and disobeying God our Father.  Even dumb animals do not treat their masters the way that we sometimes treat  God.  We attempt  to honor God with lip service, so to speak, and with offerings of good works, but much of the time our hearts are far from him, and he does not receive from us the  love, honor and respect that he deserves.

“To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? Saith the Lord: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.  When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?” Isaiah 1: 11, 12.

God is not interested in our good works and good deeds, not even in our going to church until our heart is in love and in tune with him.

Made Clean From Sin

Thought For Today – December 29
Made Clean From Sin!
By Robert A. Searles

“Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?. Proverbs 20: 9.

Only those who have believed and called upon the name  of the Lord Jesus Christ who came into the world to save sinners.  By believing and having faith in his word, we can know that all who truly have confessed their need for salvation and have asked Jesus to save them have been forgiven and have been made pure and given a new heart.  Not one of us can say - “I have made my heart clean”  Only Jesus can make our hearts clean, and he will if we ask him.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life John 3: 16.

“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”, - which means me, and you, and all of us  “He was wounded  for our transgressions.  He was bruised for our iniquity, the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his strips we are healed.” Isaiah 53: 5

The only detergent available to clean our sinful hearts and make us pure from our sin is the precious shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.  If you would have a clean heart and be pure from all sin, call upon the Lord today and ask him to apply his blood to your account, and impute to you his righteousness.

Something To Look Forward To

Thought For Today December 28
Something To Look Forward To!
By Robert A. Searles

What are we Christians looking forward to today?  As we begin this new day, and the coming new year which God has given to us, do we have something to hope for, something that has been promised to us that we can with assurance look forward to?  We all ought to be looking for Jesus to come.  What a glorious morning that will be when - “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” 1Thessalonians 4: 16, 17.

We ought to be diligently scanning the heavens - “looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ: who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2: 13, 14.

Meanwhile, as we wait and watch, and long for his coming, we ought to occupy until he comes as good soldiers and should live … “soberly, righteously, and Godly in this present world.” Titus 2: 12.

Let us rejoice and be glad.  There is a great day coming when we shall enjoy the fruits of our labor., but rejoice today for this is the day that the Lord hath made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it because this is the day that we still have opportunity to labor for the Master so that when the bridegroom comes we will have oil in our lamps, trimmed and ready to meet him.

Grace - Mercy - Peace

Thought For Today – December 27
Grace – Mercy – Peace
Robert A. Searles

To every Christian believer is given grace, mercy, and peace, from
God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.

Grace: God pours out upon us his unmerited favor because he loves us.  He gives us all the good things from his storehouse of compassion and love, even though we deserve none of it.  “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not  perish but have everlasting  life.” John 3:16.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of  yourselves: it is a gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast “Ephesians 2: 8,9.

God has promised to make his grace sufficient for us to meet our every need.  “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” - this is grace.  God is the giver, we are the receivers of all things freely to enjoy in Christ- this is grace.  We are joint heirs with Christ forever, though by nature we are outlaws from the kingdom of God – this is  grace. Oh, my friend, when God wraps his arms around the prodigal, and puts a ring on his finger, and a robe on his back, this is God's amazing grace.

In mercy God shields us and puts a hedge around us to protect us from judgment, and wrath, and the results of our own folly.  God keeps from us by his mercy, the things that we deserve.  He keeps from us the wages which we have earned.  “The wages of sin is death”. But by grace he gives us the gift of life.

What person can ever really fathom the depth of God's love and mercy?  How many of us really know how close we may at any given time have come to complete disaster except for the mercy of God?  Oh Lord we thank you for your mercy which has  kept from us our just deserts.

Oh the peace of God that passes all human understanding when our hearts are right with God and in proper fellowship with him-Peace with God and the peace of God that assures our hearts that all is well with my soul, and there is nothing between my soul and my Savior.

Thank you dear Lord this day for your grace, mercy, and peace.

Study To Show Thyself Approved!

Thought For Today – December 24
Study To Show Thyself Approved!
By Robert A. Searles

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the  word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2: 15.

This is one area where  many of us who are Christians are disobedient, and of course, all disobedience is sin.  The bible commands the believer to search and study the scriptures daily to see if the things we hear are really true lest we be led astray and deceived by false doctrine.  God has given us the written word to be a compass for our lives, to lead us through uncharted seas.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a guide unto my path.” Psalm 119: 105.

Many times we wander out of the will of God because we do not meditate on the Word of God to know what his will is for us.  If we search the scriptures, we shall find. If we knock, it shall be opened unto us.  If we ask in faith, we shall receive.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished
unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3: 16, 17.

If any of us have been negligent in this area of our lives and are not actively engaged in the study of the scriptures, we ought to confess this to God that we might be forgiven of this sin and get back into the perfect will of God  as he instructs us from his word.

Where is Our Faith?

Thought For Today – December 23
Where is our Faith?
By: Robert A. Searles

I am the Lord's and he is mine.  “And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen” 2 Timothy 4: 18.

Regardless of the afflictions and fiery trials that we must pass through in the course of our lifetime here on earth, we who believe God's word have the assurance that we will be delivered from the workers of iniquity and every evil work, and we will ultimately find ourselves safe and secure in the heavenly kingdom.

Jesus was in the boat with his disciples, and he commanded them to depart for the other side of the lake, and though they encountered a storm at sea that all but overwhelmed them, the die had been cast and the decree had been given to depart to the other coast.  When the disciples being afraid in the midst of the storm, awoke our Lord from sleep, he asked them; “where is your faith?”

Christian brother and sister, let us take a good look at our own individual situation.  It may be at the moment we are almost completely overwhelmed by our “storm at sea”, as it were, our problems, our fears and fiery trials; but where is our faith?  We have the infallible, unfailing word of God which assures us that the Lord will carry us safely to the other shore.

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.  He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.  Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep, The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.  The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.  The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul..  The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” Psalm 121.

What is Your Compass?

Thought For Today – November 1, 2023
What is your Compass?
By: Robert A. Searles

We are told by men of experience in seamanship and navigation of the importance of a compass on a dark night or in a dense fog on the high seas.  When upon the ocean billows a ship is floundering in a storm, and the fog is so thick that you cannot hardly see a hand before you, sometimes you get to wonder whether or not you can or should trust your compass.  It seems at times that the needle is pointing in the wrong direction from what you think to be right, but the wise seaman will have first checked his compass before he launches out into the unknown.  When he is far from home and from land, if he is wise, he will follow the direction that the compass indicates as its' faithful needle points to the true north reference point.

My dear friend whoever you may be, we are on a broad uncharted ocean of life, lost and not having any sense of direction or knowledge of how to find our desired haven until we accept the
Word of God, which has been tried and found to be true. as our compass. Simply by taking the teaching of the Word of God and obeying its' laws and principles by faith, just because God said it, we must believe it and follow it to guide us safely home.  Our compass tells us that the way home to heaven is by the way of the cross.  There is no other way.  Broad is the way that leads to destruction, but narrow is the way that leadeth unto life eternal.

“Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by him.”
Weary sailor are you lost in the fog, unhappy, depressed, discouraged, fearfully tossed on the sea of life, desiring eternal everlasting life, and seeking heaven, but not not knowing  where to find it?  You have at your disposal a compass which has been tried and is true, the  Holy Bible, the divinely inspired Word of God.  It points to the true reference point for all of life, the Lord Jesus Christ.  It tells us how we are sinners from birth and without hope in the world,  and that we all have sinned against God and are condemned to die;  but it also tells us of how Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. He died for our sins, and was buried and rose again the third day, all according to the scriptures, so that we might by faith receive him as  our savior and allow him  to lead us safely home.

Guilty But Blameless

Thought For Today – December 21
Guilty But Blameless!
By Robert A. Searles

My Father, the best that I know how as a human being, I love you because you have first loved me.  You have poured out your love and tender mercies upon me, and while I Was yet  a sinner, Christ came into the world to save sinners.  Christ died for my sins, he was buried and rose again according to the scriptures.  Now because of your wonderful grace, I am set free from the burden of sin.  I am out of Satan's prison, and I am on my way to heaven to claim my inheritance as a joint heir with Christ.

No one can bring an accusation against me for - “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.”  I am guilty but blameless because you have borne the guilt and the shame of my iniquity upon yourself.

Thank you dear Lord for this wonderful gift of grace, and help me this day to live for you so that you might receive praise and glory and honor through my life.  Thank you for Jesus, my Savior, my friend, my brother.  Thank you for the Holy Spirit, my comforter, constant companion, and never failing guide.  Thank you for your Word and your promises which cannot fail.

Unsaved friends who may be reading this message, perhaps you are heavily laden with the guilt and burden of sin.  Perhaps you are being held in bondage in Satan's prison.  Will you not believe the gospel message of God's love for you, that - “God so loved the world(you), that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever (you) believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3: 16

.  Christ shed his blood and died on the cross to pay the penalty of all our sins, yours included.  God The Father raised him from the dead on the third day as evidence that his sacrifice had been accepted as the propitiation or payment for all our sins.  “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Won't you call upon him today, confess your sin, ask God to forgive you, and be able to thank God that you may be guilty, but blameless.

If you agree with this message, or if you have made this decision to trust and call upon Christ for salvation,  please send  me your comments, I would be happy to hear from you.

How Is Your Appetite?

Thought For Today – December 20
How Is Your Appetite?
By Robert A. Searles

Normally when a person looses his appetite and does not  desire food consistently for a period of time, it is generally considered that he or she is ill and  medical attention is sought.

So it is with the Christian when he looses his appetite for the things of God.  This is an indication that something is wrong in the heart of that individual to cause him to turn away from spiritual things.  The Christian who loves God and is in right fellowship with him has a hunger and thirst for the things of God that cannot be satisfied until he is spending his time in the word of God, in prayer and meditation, and in fellowship with God's people.

“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”  Matthew 5: 6.  “Woe unto you that are full for ye shall hunger.” Luke 6: 25.

“The full soul loatheth an  honeycomb: but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet. Proverbs 27: 7.

Pray Foir Revival

Thought For Today – December 19
Pray For Revival!
By: Robert A. Searles

“Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.  Lead us not into temptation, but deliver  us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever, Amen.”

My Father, I pray that you will rekindle and ignite the fire of revival in my heart. I pray that you will cleanse me from all my iniquity.  Create in me O God, a clean heart and pure mind and renew a right spirit  within  me.  I pray that you will create in me a new hunger and thirst for thy word, and that I  will desire more of thy fellowship. I pray that I will have a greater love and concern for all the brethren and children of God.  Restore to me, O Lord the joy of my salvation, and grant me a greater zeal for soul winning.  Let me be all that you have meant for me to be, and let me approve all things which are excellent which will bring honor and glory to thy name.  Teach me  O Lord to pray continually and  without ceasing.  Teach me to walk constantly with the blessed Holy Spirit, and open a door of utterance for me that I might make it manifest as I ought to speak.  Help me to walk in wisdom toward those that are  without, redeeming the time.  Let my speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that I may know how I might answer every man.  This is my prayer this morning.

If this is your prayer also, please share this with others and let me hear from you.

“If any man lack wisdom let him ask of God who giveth liberally and upbtraideyth not.” James 1: 5.

This Could Be The Day !

Thought For today – December 17
This Could Be the Day!
By: Robert A. Searles

This could be the day that the Lord will return.  At any moment, at any time of the day or night, the trumpet could sound and the dead in Christ arise, and we which are alive and remain would be caught up to meet them in the air, and so would we ever be with the Lord.

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first; then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4: 16, 17.

What a glorious day to look forward to!  When Christ shall come for his own; when we shall see him as he is; when death,  and sickness, and disease and sorrow will be abolished forever.  Loved ones who have gone before us who have died in Christ we shall see again around the throne of God.

If this should be the day, are we ready?  Is there oil in our lamp?  Do we have on a wedding garment?  Are we prepared to meet the bridegroom?  Are our lives consecrated to the Lord Jesus?

“Therefore let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober.”  1 Thessalonians 5: 6.

Serve Thje Lord With Gladness

Thought For Today – December  17
Serve The Lord With Gladness!
By Robert A. Searles

Serve the Lord with gladness.  We who are saved ought to love to serve the Lord.  To know that we bring joy to the heart of God when we love him and serve him with a willing spirit ought to make us happy and complete.  What better way to spend  a life than to faithfully and joyfully be in the service of the King of kings and Lord of lords.?  He loved us so much that while we were contemptible sinners, he gave his only begotten son to die for us, but praise the Lord he arose and  is now at the Father's  right hand interceding for us, and one day will come again to planet earth and rule and reign in righteousness.

“Make a jouful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.  Serve the Lord with gladness, come before his presence with singing.  Know ye that the Lord he is God:  it is he that  hath made us, and not we ourselves.  We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise.  Be thankful unto him, and bless his name, for the Lord is good, his mercy is everlasting, and his truth  endureth to all generations.” Psalm 100.

That We Might Have The mind Of God

Thought For Today – December 16
That We Might Have The Mind Of God!
By: Robert A. Searles

Oh! That we might have the mind of God, that we, his creatures might think his thoughts and know his will, and enjoy his wisdom.  If we are the born again children of God, the scriptures tell us that we have been given the mind of Christ in a measure, and we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to be enlightened in the knowledge of God.  God has revealed his thoughts to us in the written Word  of God which we have at our disposal to read and to meditate upon.  If we  want the mind of Christ, then first of all we must become the children of God through faith in the finished work of Christ at Calvary for our redemption, for God does not give his mind  to strangers, who will not believe him.

“The natural man understandeth not the things of God neither can he know them for they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2:14

If we will diligently search the scriptures and pray and meditate day and night, and if we will seek him with the whole heart, then God will reveal to us all that he wants us to know.  Some knowledge is too high for us now while we are mere earthlings, but  when we reach heaven, all things will be shown to us.

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?  By taking heed thereto  according to thy word.” Psalm 119:9.  “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.  I am a stranger in the earth; hide not thy commandments from me.” Psalm 119: 18, 19.

What Are We Doing For The Lord?

Thought For Today – December 16
What Are We Doing For the Lord?
By: Robert A. Searles

What are we doing for the Lord?  Are we using the resources and gifts which God has bestowed upon us for his glory and honor, or are we misusing them for our own glory, or are we hiding them  in the ground as did the servant mentioned by Christ in the gospel of Matthew Chapter 25: 14-30?

We have all been given talents and abilities, all different according to the will of God.  Some day we will be asked, where is the talent and ability that was given to you?  According to what we have done, and how we have trusted and obeyed, and according to our faithfulness or unfaithfulness we will  have  to answer to our Lord.

How wonderful on that day would it be for our Lord to put his hand on our shoulder and say to us, well done thou good and faithful servant.  But how ashamed we will be if we are  found empty handed at that day with no crowns to place at our savior's feet.

Let each of us, therefore  “Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the  Lord, that thou fulfill it.” Colossians  4:17.

What Shall I Render Unto The Lord?

Thought For Today – November 7
What Shall I Render Unto The Lord?
By: Robert A. Searles

“What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me ?  Psalm 116: 12.

How could we ever hope  to repay God for his mercy, his love, his salvation and every good thing which he has given to us.? When we count our blessings instead of our problems, we are made aware of the fact that the goodness and mercy of God out weighs all our difficulties.  God is ever ready to hear and answer our faintest supplication when we call upon him in truth.  He is an ever present help in the time of trouble.  He is ready, willing, and able to forgive all our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The only thing that we can render to God that will be acceptable unto him is a contrite broken spirit, a heart filled with gratitude and praise, and complete trust in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We ought to daily and momentarily offer our bodies to the Lord which is our reasonable service, and “take the cup of salvation and call  upon the name of the Lord, and pay our vows unto the Lord in the presence of all his people, and offer to him the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call upon the name of the Lord.” Psalm 116: 12-17.

“Whosoever shall call upon he name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Be Not a Scoffer!

Thought For Today – December 14
Be Not A Scoffer!
By: Robert A. Searles

Proud and haughty man thou art who scorneth the Word of God.  Know you not, O small and insignificant entity in comparison with the whole, that it was the Word of God that established the heaven and the earth and created you?  At the command of the Word of God there was light, and the light over came the darkness
.
My dear friend, as an ambassador on earth for Christ, I want to warn you, if you by chance read these  words and your first inclination is to scoff at and scorn the Word of God – according to the very word of God, you will not be dead a split second before you will be lamenting the fact that you did  not take heed to the Word of God when it warned you that you, like all other people, have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

The Word of God , the bible tells us that  "There is none righteous no, not one"  "The wages of sin is death," and my friend, you will find at that hour that hell is no joke, but a very real place as Jesus described it,  as a garbage dump, where the fire is unquenchable, a place which has been prepared for the devil and his angels and for all who will scoff at the Word of God.

My friend if you will believe and adhere to the Word of God, there is a brighter and happier side.  As “The wages of sin is eternal death” - so “The gift of God is eternal life” - through Jesus Christ his son, our Lord.  “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved”-  from this day forth and forever.

Christmas Time

Thought For Today – December 13
Christmas Time!
By: Robert a. Searles

It is only a few more days before Christmas.  This is the time for the giving and receiving of gifts.  Who is the most important person on your Christmas list?
We celebrate the advent of the Lord Jesus Christ at Christmas time – but do we really?  Where are our thoughts, and where is our mind and heart focused,  really? At Christmas time? We ought to be celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ but I wonder if he is at the top of our Christmas giving and receiving list, or at the middle, or at the end, or is he really there at all?
As we gather around  our family and friends to celebrate this most festive  of occasions,  the first gift that ought to be received  with gratitude and thanksgiving is God's love gift to us, the Lord Jesus Christ.  Open this gift first .  Give him gratitude and praise him first for his gift of love.
At Christmas time “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.  At Christmas time God offered us the opportunity to become his adopted children by grace through faith.  “As many as received him to them gave he the power ( or authority )  to become the sons of God.”  At Christmas time he made it possible for us as  children of God to become heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ.  At Christmastime, God gave gifts unto  men “wherefore   he saith when he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive and gave gifts unto men Ephesians 4; 8 At Christmas time God provided for our salvation.
Salvation is a big package, containing many things.  It first of all contains forgiveness of sins, freedom from guilt, justification with God.  It includes peace and joy and all the fruits of the Spirit.  It contains everlasting eternal life.  It guarantees  an all expense paid trip to heaven and the right to walk on streets of gold.  It guarantees that there is a  mansion prepared and waiting for us in heaven.  Jesus said -”I go to prepare a place for you,  and if I go, I will come again  and receive you unto myself that where I am there you may be also.” John 14.  The package of our salvation contains abundant life here on earth, protection from danger, healing of mind soul and body and a guaranteed audience with the King of kings and Lord of Lords.  It contains all the provisions available to  us in the 23rd Psalm.  It all happened at Christmas, and what a Christmas  gift it is!  Thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift, the Lord Jesus Christ.  As we gather to receive and exchange gifts from family and friends lets open first God's Gift to us that Christ died for us,the Godly for the ungodly, the Righteous for the unrighteous
Lets covenant with ourselves and with each other that we will not receive any gift from anyone else this Christmas time until we  have received with gratitude in our hearts, the treasure that was given to us at Christmas time.  No matter how abject the poverty, or how small the bank account, or how few the gifts under the tree, no one has a right to say that they received nothing for Christmas.  God gave us everything he had at Christmas time.  Lets covennt with ourselves that we will not offer  to anyone else our  meager trinkets or gifts until we have rededicated our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ and offered our selves to him  in loving gratitude and service.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren by the mercies ofGod, that ye present your bodies, a living sacrifice, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service” Romans 12: 1.  “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall  be added unto you  Matthew 6: 33.
Every gift that we present to someone else should not be given with the attitude of seeing how much the recipient of our gift will be pleased with us for having given them a gift.  Instead, every gift that we  present to someone else ought to be a symbol of the gift that was offered to us by Christ coming into the world and shedding his blood for us.  If opportunity presents itself, we ought to first offer to everyone on our gift list, God's plan of salvation.  Our first gift ought to be presented to the  Lord JesusChrist in gratitude  for his gift to us.  We ought to  present to him our bodies as a living sacrifice which is our reasonable service.  We ought to present to him our complete love and loyality  to love the lord with all our heart, with all  our mind, with all our soul.  We ought to keep our mind clean and our thoughts pure, and our bodies, the temple of God clean so that it may be God's dwelling place and his headquarters here on earth.
If the Lord Jesus Christ is not on the top of our gift receiving and giving list, then we are not celebrating the coming of the Lord into  the world, instead we will be celebrating some pagan festival of lustful seeking  vain glory and the esteem of men.
How sad it is that in this so called Christian countryof ours,we are told that in order to be politically correct we must exclude the name and idea of Christ from Christmas and celebrate  a pagan holiday instead.  This is utter blasphemy.  May God have mercy on our souls and on our nation for this gross sin.

Positive Thinking

Thought for Today - December 20. 2022
Positive Thinking
By: Robert A. Searles
Do you want to have a positive attitude and outlook on life? Keep your mind constantly, consciously fixed upon God.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Isaiah 26: 3.

All the day long, think upon God; think of how holy God is; think of how just God is; think of how merciful and forgiving God is; think always of the love of God, and how he expressed that love by his sacrifice for us. Think of how mighty and powerful God is. Think of how wise God is, and how wealthy he is.

The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof. Think of how healthy God is; think of him who is full of life. He is the creator of all life. Think of how eternal God is, he is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the alpha and omega. And then think this one solemn thought: God wants us to become as he is. He wants us to be conformed to the image of his son. If we think in this way we will be thinking positively even as God thinks. Therefore, if you want to be positive in thoughts and attitudes, and grow to become like he is,  think always on the lord.

So Send I You!

Thought for Today - February 23, 2023
So Send I You!
By: Robert A. Searles

“Then said Jesus to them again, peace be unto you; as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.”John 20:21
Jesus gave his disciples the commission to continue his ministry on earth after he had ascended into heaven.., He gave them the Holy Spirit to help them. We who are the children of God, have been given the same commission from him. We are told to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. As God sent Jesus to reconcile the world to himself, so Jesus sends us into the world among sinners, to tell them of his love and redeeming power.
There is no purpose for living on earth other than for service to God. The unsaved person from the time he is old enough to think for himself is constantly searching for something that will fulfill his purpose in life. It is called the pursuit of happiness. It is the common thought that happiness is something which we can run after, and some day catch, and when it has been caught, hang onto it and never let it go. No wonder there are so many frustrated people in the world. They go from one thing to another, without ever finding any real satisfaction in life, and no purpose for living. Education won't satisfy, houses and property and wealth won't satisfy, even good health won't satisfy, and the reason being, that we were designed to be satisfied only from within when we have found the perfect will of God and are doing it.The most miserable people of all are those who have become the sons of God, if they have never yielded themselves to serve God and win souls to Christ. The greatest joy and satisfaction that any of us can ever experience is to know that we are doing the very thing that we were sent to do after we were saved, that is, to magnify and exalt the name of the Lord Jesus Christ; to win souls; and to continue the ministry of love and compassion, and reconciliation to God through Christ, and help those in need.
When a person has no purpose in life other than to satisfy his own flesh, then life itself becomes nothing but a continual state of boredom and depression, and can become a living hell. We have been sent by Jesus to do a job, to work in his vineyard, to bring in the harvest. There is much joy in laboring for the Lord. We are told that: “they that sow in tears, shall doubtless come again rejoicing, bringing their sheaves with them.”
I want to be one of the sent ones. I don't want to be just sitting around feeling miserable because I have reached a certain age, and feeling sorry for myself that all my yesterdays could not continue until today. I pray that the Lord will fill me to overflowing with the Holy Spirit and give me a ministry and service for him that will keep me busy magnifying and exalting his name forever. I want to keep my eyes on the future, not on the past. That which is ahead is greater and more exciting than anything we have ever known in the past. I want to keep pressing forward to the prize of the high calling of God, as Paul said, and to keep my eyes fixed firmly on Jesus. I want to seek first the kingdom of God, and accept with thanksgiving any blessing that God wants to shower upon me.

Rejoice! Again I Say Rejoice! Glory To God in The Highest! How Great Is our God!

December 6, 2016
Rejoice! Again I Say Rejoice!
Glory To God In The Highest!  How Great Is Our God!
By: Robert A. Searles

Oh pen! Fly swiftly across this page and proclaim to the world the glories of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.  Born in a manager, in a cattle stall, a long time ago as an obscure peasant child.  Wonder of wonders that his birth was announced by a heavenly host of angels, and shepherds were made to fear and gaze in amazement as the announcement was made that this was the promised Messiah, the Christ child whose name would be Jesus who had come to save his people from their sins.

“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon  them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.  And the angel said unto them, fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord,.  And this shall be a sign unto you; ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes  lying in  a manger.  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” Luke 2: 8-14.

The hymn writer has posed the question - ”Who is he in yonder stall, at whose feet the shepherds fall?”  Then he goes on to answer his own question - “Tis the Lord! Oh wondrous story! Tis the Lord the King of glory!  At his feet we humbly fall, crown him, crown him Lord of all!”  These are the words of the hymn writer, Benjamin R Hanby who lived between 1833-1867.

Truer words could never be spoken.  He is the King of glory.  We celebrate on Christmas day with great joy, the birth of this special child, “in yonder stall”, who was indeed the very  God of glory, while on earth as a man, he had no place to lay his head.  He grew up and became a man, and though he was deity, temporarily laid aside his divinity in order that he might identify with all men in their sufferings and temptation; and take upon himself the sins and condemnation of all men, and die in their place on a cruel Roman cross.  Praise God, the cross and the tomb was not the end for Jesus, for when the women came to anoint his body they found the tomb empty because he had risen.

“The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach., until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:  To whom also  he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs,  being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining  to the kingdom of God.” Acts 1: 1,2,3.

What a great God we have, who loved each of us so much that even while we were sinners, he would leave the glories of heaven and condescend to the level of sinful men!

As we celebrate this Christmas season and  as we gather with family and friends around our Christmas tree or dinner table and enjoy the gifts, food, and fellowship, let us stop and consider what the day is all about.  This is the day we celebrate the advent of our Lord, when “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3: 16.

There are not enough words in the English language, or any other language for that matter, to adequately proclaim the majesty and magnificence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you do not personally know this person who was born in the Bethlehem stable so long ago as your Lord and Savior, he is at this moment offering himself to you as your sin sacrifice.  He grew up, became a man, (even though he was God), and bled,  died and suffered, and rose again for  our salvation and justification.,  There is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.  There is no other means of entrance into heaven except by him.  He is the way, the truth and the light.  He is the door by which all must enter into heaven and the presence of God the Father.  The word of God says that whosoever will may come, and whosoever will come to him he will in no wise cast out.

What better time could there be to receive God's unspeakable gift of love, the forgiveness of all sin, past, present, and future, through his son, the lord Jesus Christ?  Simply approach him, believing his word with a  repentant heart, and ask him to forgive your sins and come into your heart and there abide forever, and he will.

The shepherds received the glad tidings of Christ's birth with joy and gladness.   If you have not done so already, why not receive the glad tidings of God's extended grace to you for your salvation with joy and gladness and gratitude on this Christmas day?

What Did Jesus Say Concerning the Law?

Thought for Today - December 21, 2022
What Did Jesus Say Concerning The law?
By Robert A. Searles

When almighty God created the universe and all things therein, he established certain laws by which it would function and continue.  He established all the laws of physics, mathematics, and astronomy, which he has by grace revealed to mankind; likewise, he established spiritual laws by which mankind was to relate to him and enjoy his fellowship.  He delivered to Moses  the ten commandments and other instructions that were required to be obeyed if one was to have fellowship with him and inherit his eternal glory.

No one can see God and inherit his glory unless they keep the whole law.  If they fail in one point of the law, all is lost.  God knew from the very beginning, because of the nature of man, what was in man, and the frailty of man, so he made provision for mankind by sending Jesus Christ into the world, the one and only person and member of the human race who is one hundred percent man, and at the same time, one hundred percent God, who alone was able to obey the whole law in its' entirety.

God still holds all mankind responsible for obeying his laws, but warns us that no one is capable of obeying the law perfectly, therefore unless someone else who is capable does for us that which we cannot do for ourselves, we are without hope and are lost.  But the good news is that Christ Jesus came into the world to save us from the curse of the law and set us free and place us under the grace or unmerited favor of God.

Jesus said: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets.  I am not come to destroy but to fulfill, for verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one title shall in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled.  Whosoever therefore shall break one of these commandments and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven; but whosoever shall do and teach them shall be  called great  in the kingdom of heaven.  For I say unto you that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case  enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5: 17-20.

Some people may think that because Christians are under grace and not under law, that the laws and commandments of God no longer apply, but this is not so.  Jesus taught otherwise.  The requirements of the law are in effect today as much as they ever were, but none of us can meet those requirements no matter how hard we try.  Our only hope is to flee to Jesus for forgiveness and ask him to impute his righteousness to us.  Then sin no longer abounds but grace does much more abound, and we are set free from the curse of breaking God's laws.

Thorns In The Flesh

 Thought for Today - December 8, 2022
Thorns In The Flesh
 By: Robert A. Searles

When God delivered Israel into the land of their possessions, he made a covenant with them. He swore to them that he would never break his part of the covenant, and he expected them not to break theirs.

:”And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars but ye have not obeyed my voice; why have ye done this? Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you” Judges 2.2 (KJV)

We who call ourselves Christians, and the sanctified children of God, are not to be a part of, nor go along with the pagan ways of the world or the world's way of thinking and philosophy. Our fellowship and conformity with the world's philosophy will be as thorns in our flesh.

All the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua and the elders that outlived Joshua, but after Joshua and the elders of Israel had died, another generation arose which knew not the things of the Lord.

“And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers; and there arose another generation after them which knew not the Lord nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim: and they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the lord to anger.” Judges 2: 10, 11, 12 (KJV)

Several generations have come and gone which have not known God nor considered his works  since the founding of America . This is the fault of previous generations of Christians who have not properly taught their children the proper knowledge, or respect for God and his works.

Too many of us Christians are forsaking the ways of God and following the God of the society in which we live. We are setting poor examples for future generations, consequently, each new generation has lesser knowledge and respect for the God of our fathers. Wealth and material things have become our object of worship

. “And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.” Judges 2: 14 (KJV)

I believe that the anger of the Lord is hot against America today for neglecting him and his worship; because of widespread adultery; because of abortions - the murder of new born babies; and all kinds of sexual promiscuity and perversion. Will he deliver us into the hands of spoilers or the terrorist?

“Nevertheless, the Lord raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them. And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the Lord; but they did not so.” Judges 2: 16, 17 (KJV)

God raises up preachers and evangelist and soul winners and leaders  today in America to warn us; but for the most part we do not listen. We Go whoring after the things of the world. What a shame for us as Christians to do this sort of thing. Perhaps if we will put the Ten Commandments and prayer in the name of Jesus back into the public school system, and other public places, and teach our children and future generations, the proper respect for authority and the word of God, then, the guns and other weapons will disappear from the schools; children will receive a proper education; and law enforcement become less violent.

For you who are reading this, if you are a Christian and wholeheartedly believe these truths, why not come out of the wallpaper, so to speak, and let your voices be heard – where you work; from the pulpit; from your church; among your close associates. Too many of us are remaining silent, and if it continues to be so, it may lead to disaster

In another two years , hopefully,we will have a new president in authority in the white house.   Let us hope that  whosoever  he might be that he will promise to restore at least some of our Christian values and uphold the constitution of the United States of America as was given to us by our  founding fathers. God may use him to save our nation from final disaster.  It will not be easy for him because of all the division and opposition, so we need to pray for this new administration, and pray that God will reveal to him the plan of salvation, and that he will receive Christ as his personal  savior.
