God Does Not Hold Grudges.

Thought  For Today -  August 31, 2023
God Does Not Hold Grudges.

By: Robert A. Searles

"If thou, Lord shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope." Psalm 130: 3,4,5.

Praise God! He does not hold grudges and hold our sins and wrong doing over our heads to condemn us; but he is ever ready to hear our confession and self judgment, and remember our sins no more.

If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, otherwise, if this were not the case, who could stand? Who would be able to serve him? Who would be able to preach and to teach? For none is worthy unless he accounts them to be worthy through his grace, and mercy and forgiveness, for -

" There is none righteous in himself, no ,not one, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

Therefore, once having brought our sins before God, and claiming the cleansing power of his shed blood, let us go our way rejoicing and sin no more.

Each new day he gives us a clean new slate upon which to write the history of our lives. Beginning today, the first day of the rest of our lives, with the strength of our forgiven, redeemed lives and  resurrected souls, let us be renewed in our mind and empowered by the Holy Spirit to go forth today to our place of duty and service and be glad, and do all that God wants us to do for him.

Lie Not Against The Truth

Thought for Today - August 30, 2023

 Lie Not Against The Truth

 By: Robert A. Searles

“Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom decendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is there is confusion and every evil work.” James 3: 13-16

Dear friends, one of the methods that Satan uses to try to destroy us and to ruin our testimony as a Christian is to cause us to harbor bitter envying and strife in our heart. Satan knows the effect that bitterness and strife can have on our mind and our bodies. It can cause an imbalance in the chemical make up in our bodies, eventually causing breakdown and illness, and it can cause our thinking process to be irrational and perverted; also , it can cause our thoughts to be turned away from our blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

My friend, if there is any trace of bitterness or strife in your heart this morning as you begin this new day, glory not, but confess it to God and lie not against the truth. Jealousy, envy and covetousness are all grievous sins and displeasing to God our Father who has promised to be generous to his children and to provide for all our needs. Bitterness, envy, strife, jealousy and covetousness are the elements which lead to war.

“From whence come wars and fighting among you? Come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and can not obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not because ye ask not. Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” James 4: 1-3 Dear friend in Christ, turn to your Lord, our Savior Jesus Christ this morning, and to the written word which he has given us, and allow the Holy Spirit, through the word of God to wash away all this bitterness, and to cleanse us and make us fit vessels for the master's use. Get into the word of God, and by the washing of the word, be clean. “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy, and the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace” James 3: 16-18

“But he giveth more grace, wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” James 4: 6-10

Sharper Than a Two Edged Sword

Thought For Today -  August 29, 2023

Sharper Than a Two Edged Sword

  By:Robert A. Searles
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and ntents of the heart." Hebrews 4:12.

Perhaps this is why some of us avoid the preaching of the word, and neglect to read the bible, and deprive our selves of the blessing and fellowship of God our Father.

When we read the bible, or hear the word preached, it tears us apart and reveals to us all the hidden, secrets of a darkened soul. It shows us how black the heart of man is without the cleansing of the blood of Christ. It shows us how we measure up to God when compared to his dear son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
But, oh!  what blessings we receive when we allow the word of God to accomplish its' purpose in us, when we allow the Holy Spirit to take the word of God and go down into the basement of our lives, as it were, and search out all the trash and garbage that is there in the depths of our soul, and bring it to our attention and give us the grace to confess and repent of all the evil that is within us, and make room for the filling of the Holy Spirit.

Every creature is naked before God. Even if we neglect to listen to God speaking to us through his word, yet -  "Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Seeing then that we have a great high priest that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities,; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4: 13-16.

Preparing to Meet Jesus: A 21-Day Challenge to Move from Salvation to Transformation

Our Bridegroom is coming! When you at long last meet Him face to face, will you be pleasing to Him? This 21-day challenge from beloved Bible teacher Anne Graham Lotz and her daughter Rachel-Ruth offers timeless inspiration to help ensure you are fully prepared for that crucial moment.

The biblical book of Genesis describes how Abraham sent his servant to find a suitable bride for his son Isaac--and how that servant found Rebekah, a woman of remarkable character who met the father's criteria. That same story is an allegory of how God seeks a bride for His Son Jesus.

With this in mind, Anne Graham Lotz and Rachel-Ruth Lotz Wright explore the characteristics God the Father is seeking to find in the bride of His Son, Jesus. This twenty-one-day challenge, with prompts for reflection and prayer, will move you from salvation to transformation. Each reading will inspire you to ready yourself for the day you meet Jesus by choosing now to be the bride He is looking and longing for, one characterized by humility, selflessness, generosity, and other key qualities of one whose heart is prepared to meet the Bridegroom.

Serve The Lord With Gladness!

Thought for Today - August 28, 2023

 Serve The Lord With Gladness!

 By: Robert A. Searles

Serve the Lord with gladness! We who are saved ought to love to serve the Lord. To know that we bring joy to the heart of God when we love him and serve him with a willing spirit ought to make us happy and complete. What better way to spend a life than to faithfully and joyfully be in the service of the King of kings and Lord of lords? He loved us so much that while we were contemptible sinners, he gave his only begotten son to die for us, but praise the Lord he arose and is now at the Father's right hand interceding for us and one day will come again to planet earth and rule and reign in righteousness.

"Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness, come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord, he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves, we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture., Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name, for the Lord is good, his mercy is everlasting, and his truth endureth to all generations."

Do We Look For Another?

Thought For Today - August 26, 2023
Do We Look For Another?
By: Robert A. Searles

John the baptist, preaching in the wilderness  and baptizing in the Jordan river, pointed to Jesus and proclaimed: “Behold the lamb of God who taketh away the sin of the world.”

Now John, being in prison, has doubts within himself.  John sent two of his disciples to Jesus to ask him plainly- "Are you the one or should we look for another?"

Today, we Christians, though we live by faith and believe the word of God, yet, in trying times it is  possible that doubts and fears may creep into our lives, especially if we are not as close to the Lord as we ought to be, and faithful in studying God's word and praying.  If we are completely honest, we must admit that down in our hearts we have all asked the question- Is it true?  Is the bible relevant for us today? Is Christ alive? Will he return as he said he would? Is there life after death?  Will God forgive our sins?

John being in prison and about to be executed, probably was wondering in his heart - If Jesus was the one, the Lamb of God, the mighty God in human flesh, why would he allow him to be in prison  and be  executed?

We ask very similar questions today -  Why am I going through such troubling times?  Why am I sick and afflicted with a terrible disease?  Why am I lonely?  Why am I going through financial difficulties?  Why am  I so afraid?

Jesus's  reply to John's disciples was that he examine the evidence:  Consider all that came to Jesus for help..  The blind see, the lame walk, lepers, are  cleansed, the deaf hear, even the dead are raised.

When Satan whispers in our ears and tries to get us to question as to whether or not Jesus is real and our faith genuine, then we need to stop and remember the goodness of God in our lives in times past.  Remember when the burden of guilt was lifted off our shoulders when we first believed.  Remember all of our childhood prayers that were answered.  Remember the times that we were afraid and when the Holy Spirit of God was there to calm our fears.  Remember when the Lord healed us when we were sick and came to our assistance when we were experiencing financial difficulties.  Let us carefully examine the scriptures and hear again the testimony of all the eye witnesses of Christ's resurrection and ascension into heaven.  Let us once again examine all the fulfilled prophecies of where and when Christ should be born, and the validity of all his miraculous works.

“Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, and said unto him, art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? Jesus answered and said  unto them, Go and show  John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up,, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.  And blessed is he whosoever shall not be offended in me.” Matthew 11: 2-6.

Jesus Speaks - Will you Listen?

 Thought for Today - August 25, 2023

Jesus Speaks - Will you Listen?

By: Robert A. Searles

Jesus the True Vine

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.  You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.  Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.  I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.  If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.  If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.  If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commands and remain in his love.I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.  My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.  You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last-and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.  This is my command: Love each other.

The World's Hatred

"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.  Remember what I told you: 'A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me.  If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.  Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: 'They hated me without reason.'when the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father-the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father-he will testify about me.  And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning."

The Question We All Must Answer

Thought For Today - August 24, 2023
The  Question We All Must Answer

By: Robert A. Searles

There is a question which every man, woman, boy and girl, must eventually answer for himself. The answer given to this question will determine the eternal destiny of each and every person on earth.

There have been diverse opinions of men down through the ages, as concerning the person of Jesus Christ. Who is he? Some have said that he is just another man. Some have said that he was a good man. Others have called him a blasphemer, an imposter. There have been those who have said that he was one of the prophets. Jesus said, “I am come down from the Father, and the Father and I are one.” What is your answer, who is Jesus Christ? What do you believe about him?

Peter was asked this same question by Jesus Christ himself. “When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, whom do men say that I the son of man am? And they said: some say that thou art John the Baptist, some Elias, and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them; but whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, thou art the Christ, the son of the living God.” Matthew 16: 13,14,15,16

The multitudes that Jesus taught were confused as to who Jesus was. The Pharisees, the religious leaders of the day were blind as to the identity of Christ, even though all the prophets and holy scriptures had told of the his coming. “And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, who is this? “ Matthew 21: 10.

While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying: what think ye of Christ? Whose son is he? They say unto him, the son of David. He saith unto them, how then doth David in spirit call him Lord?” Matthew 22: 43.

Pilate tried to remain neutral and avoid answering the question as to who Christ was. He said to the multitudes that were calling for Christ’s crucifixion, what shall I do with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, let him be crucified.” Matthew 27:22

Those of us who know him personally through the holy scriptures and the witness of the Holy Spirit within us, will affirm that he is the Christ, the divine son of God, the savior of the world, whom God the Father has sent to redeem the world, that through him all people may be reconciled to God the Father.

Let those who doubt the credentials of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ examine the holy scriptures, and they will have to come to the same conclusion, that Jesus is the Christ, the divine son of God. The first mention of a Messiah or savior of mankind was given by God to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. God promised that one would come who would be bruised by Satan, but who would crush Satan and all evil, and be the propitiation for the sin of the whole world

“And the Lord said unto the serpent, because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field: upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” Genesis 3: 14,15.

Satan and the power of evil bruised the heel of Christ on the cross by his suffering and death, but Christ conquered and bruised the head of Satan by his glorious resurrection.
The killing of animals and the blood sacrifice for the atonement of sins was a picture of the coming lamb of God who would shed his blood once and for all for the cleansing of sin.

The prophets told of his coming into the world by a miraculous virgin birth. Isaiah prophesied, saying: “therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7: 14.

The gospel according to Matthew attests to the fact of the virgin birth of Jesus Christ. “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise, when as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.” Matthew 1: 18.

The angel appeared to Joseph and told him of what was about to take place. “But while he thought on these things, behold an angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1: 20,21.

The prophet Micah prophesied as to where the Messiah, or Christ should be born. “But thou Bethlehem Ephratah , though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel: whose going forth have been from old from everlasting.” Micah 5: 2.

It all came to pass, even as Isaiah and Micah had predicted. The virgin Mary conceived by the Holy Ghost, and Christ was born in the little town of Bethlehem. “And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.” Luke 2:1.

“And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth , into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: (because he was of the house and lineage of David) to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.. And it was that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered and she brought forth her first born son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” Luke 2: 4,5,6,7

John the Baptist testified as to the identity of Jesus when he proclaimed: “Behold the lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said , after me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.” John 1: 29, 30.

Jesus taught in the synagogue where he testified of himself when he was invited to read from the holy scriptures: “And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book he found the place where it was written: the spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted; to preach deliverance to the captives; and recovering of sight to the blind; to set at liberty them that are bruised; to preach the acceptable year of the Lord, and he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down, and the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.” Luke 4: 17-20.

The work and miracles that Jesus performed while here on earth could only be accomplished by God himself. He changed the water into wine. He healed the sick. He gave sight to the blind. He made the lame to walk. He cured the lepers. He walked on water. He raised the dead. He raised Lazarus after he had been dead for three days, and to cap it all, he himself rose from the dead. The tomb was empty. The fact that Jesus showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs attest to the fact that he is more than a man, he is God, and because he is God, he has the power and authority to forgive sins and grant eternal life to all who will believe that he is God, and that he is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one can approach God the Father except through him.

Jesus Christ changes lives. He brings families together. He heals broken hearts. He comforts the lonely. He forgives sins. He gives eternal life. He is the prince of peace, and in his own good time, he will return to earth and bring peace.

If there be any doubts in your mind as to who Jesus Christ is, I would urge you to examine all the evidence. Go to God in prayer and ask him to reveal to you the true identity of Jesus Christ.

Born Of God.

 Thought For Today - August 23, 2023

 Born Of God.

 By: Robert A. Searles

“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3.

“Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot see the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.” John 3: 5, 6, 7.

My friend, if you cannot fully appreciate the word of God, believe its' promises, and perceive with your heart and mind all the glories, joys, and happiness of the kingdom of God; if you cannot enjoy the fellowship with God as a parent – child relationship, and experience the sense of justification and forgiveness of sins past, present, and future, perhaps it is because you have never truly been “born again” into the family of God.

When Adam and Eve our first earthly parents disobeyed God at the very beginning of creation, they sold their birthright to Satan, and since then every human being that has ever been born has inherited the sin nature, and comes into the world already estranged from God. So, when we are born, we are born in the flesh only. Our spiritual life does not begin at the time of our physical birth.

Although God is the creator of all, he is not the father of all until his child has been conceived and born. God is spirit, he must be worshiped in spirit, and to become a child of God, we must be born in the spirit. “The natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of God for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2: 14.

In order to be born into the family of God, it is totally a work of God's grace. We must be drawn by God to hear and accept the word of God as absolute truth, and by faith believe, as it says that - “All scripture is given by inspiration of God”, and that “holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the holy ghost.” One must accept by faith that Jesus Christ is the divine son of God, and that he died for the sins of each individual person who will receive him, and that his bodily resurrection was proof that God had accepted his sacrifice in payment of their sin debt, and for the justification of all who will receive him.

Intellectual knowledge is not enough. The heart must confirm by faith, that which the mind knows factually. The world says prove it to me, and I will believe. God says, believe me and then I will prove it to you by spiritual discernment

. “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God. John 3: 16, 17, 18. \

“As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them who believe on his name, which were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1: 12, 13

Dear reader, I invite you to believe the word of God; to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. If God is drawing you to himself, and has implanted within your heart a grain of faith as minute as the grain of mustard seed, if you are willing, by receiving the Word of God into your heart, this grain of faith will become impregnated with the word of God, and cause you to become a child of God. Then the Holy Spirit will dwell within you and cause you to know God, enjoy God, and perceive the kingdom of God, and have the assurance of eternal, everlasting life.
