Stand Still!- Listen! - Wait!

Thought for Today - March 30, 2024

Stand Still!- Listen! - Wait!

By: Robert A. Searles

God speaks, but we do not hear because we do not diligently listen.  God speaks to us through his word, by the Holy Spirit, in a still small calm voice, but it is difficult to hear and discern the voice of our creator amidst all the noise which surrounds us.

As we begin each new day, we need to stand still and behold the glory of God in all his creation.  We need to hide ourselves away in the secret place which God has provided for us according to Psalm 91, and we need to be still; close our mouth; and open our ears; as God speaks to our heart by the indwelling Holy Spirit; then we need to hide in our heart all that God reveals to us, and wait patiently for him to perform all his wondrous promises in our lives.

“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”Psalm 46:10

"The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah." Psalm 46: 7-11

Isaiah 40:31 - "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
Job 37:14 - "Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God"

Exodus 14:13 - "And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see again no more for ever."

1 Samuel 12:7 - " Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.

Gain the World - Lose Your Soul - What is Your Preference?

Gain the World - Lose Your Soul - What is Your Preference?

By: Robert A. Searles

When God created mankind he gave us a free will so that we can chose the paths of life tha we will follow.  Some of us chose the things of the world, its' riches, and pleasures, and every thing it has to offer us, not much caring about the brevity of our life, and what  will happen to our eternal soul when we die.  The bible tells us that "the soul that sinneth shall surely die" If we choose the things of the world nnd give our whole life over  to it, and neglect to believe God, and obey his word, we  may enjoy he pleasures of temporary riches and pleasures for a season, but then we die and lose our own eternal  soul.

Some of us have chosen a better path-  the straight and narrow way that Jesus says leads to eternal everlasting life.   We live in our natural state in the world, but refuse to  conform to its' sinful lifestyle.  We receive all the riches and blessings that God chooses to lay upon us with praise and thanksgiving, the greatest of all blessing - the death, burial nd resurrection of our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ who gave himself for all of us so that our soul shall live forever and spend eternity with God our father.  This is my choice. What is yours?

“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”Math 16: 26

Timothy 6:10 - "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows".

1 Timothy 6:17-19 - "Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

Romans 12:1-21 -" I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."

1 Timothy 6:6 - "But godliness with contentment is great gain."
Deuteronomy 6:5 - "And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might."

"But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what  is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom." Math 16: 23-28

Be Strong and of Good Courage!

Thought for Today - March 28, 2024

Be Strong and  of Good Courage!

By: Robert A. Searles

God had delivered the children of Israel from their bondage and slavery in Egypt, and brought them miraculously, with the leadership of Moses, across the Red sea into the promised land that he had covenanted  to give to them by his promises delivered to  them through Abraham.

They could have begun to enjoy their inheritance  immediately had they not succumbed to fear brought about by the negative report of the spies that Moses had sent to spy out the challenges that lie before them.  Only two of the twelve  spies (Joshua and Caleb )returned with a positive report that even though the land that God had given them were inhabited by giants in fenced cities, they would be victorious  in their conquest because the LORD God would be with them to fight their battles and grant them victory.

The consequences of their lack of faith and trust in God was that they were compelled to wander aimlessly  in the wilderness for forty years.  All that generation which had crossed the Red Sea perished in the wilderness because of their unbelief.

Not until after the death of Moses, When God placed the command of his people in the hands of Joshua, did the armies of Israel begin  to posses the land. God promised Joshua to be strong and of good courage and he would be with them.

“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”  Deut 31: 6

"The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said. And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed. And the LORD shall give them up before your face, that ye may do unto them according unto all the commandments which I have commanded you. Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."

"And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it. And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed."

"And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and unto all the elders of Israel." Deut 31: 3-9

As in that day God delivered Israel from their bondage and slavery, so today Christ has delivered us from the bondage and slavery of sin. Satan would like to have us believe that it is not  so, he was and still is a proud liar from the beginning, and his purpose for us is to steal, kill, and destroy, and to keep us from claiming and enjoying our inheritance in Christ. Right now if we will believe and receive it-that is - the forgiveness and freedom from the bondage and slavery of sin, daily fellowship with Christ through the in dwelling Holy Spirit, and eternal, everlasting life .

We must not be like the children of Israel wandering in  the wilderness of fear and despair.

Christ died for our sins, he was buried and rose again the third day, he showed himself alive by many infallible proofs, his disciples  watched him as he ascended back into heaven where he is now at the right hand of God the Father interceding for each of us. Our salvation is finished. Believe it, by faith receive it, and enter into the promised land of God.

Wrestle With the Devil!

 Thought for Today - March 27, 2024

Wrestle With the Devil!

By: Robert A. Searles

The Bible tells us that there was war in heaven -between God and Satan- and Satan, (known as the serpent and the devil), was expelled from heaven and cast out upon the earth for a season.

Revelation 12:9 - "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

Satan knows that his control and authority on earth, will come to an end, and he and all who follow him will eventually be cast into hell forever, (all who have not repented and accepted Christ as savior  and LORD  are  servants of Satan  and under his control). Those of us who claim salvation by believing, accepting, receiving, and confessing with our mouth, the LORD, supposedly are clothed with the uniform of the LORD as his soldiers and ambassadors , and are prime targets for Satan to attempt  to steal, kill, and to destroy. Therefore, we need to be very sure that we have put on the whole armor of God , and have at our disposal the prime weapon of our warfare which is the infaillible word of God.

1 Peter 5:8 -" Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"
Ephesians 6:11 - "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”Ephesians 6:12
-" (A Psalm of David.) Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:"
Isaiah 41:10 -" Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness
Philippians 4:13-14 -" I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

DwelingTogether in Unity!

Thought for Today- March 26, 2024

Dwelling Together in Unity!

By: Robert A. Searles

Our country is very sick, even perhaps the sickness unto death as a nation if we do not find a cure, and that very soon. Hatred and strife for one another because of differences of our race, creed or color, or personal convictions or opinions is destroying  us as a united people under God. We know the cause of of the disease that we all have been infected with, it is the virus of a wicked sinful heart which we have inherited because of the sin and disobedience of one couple -Adam and Eve. The results of the first couple's disobedience was made manifest when Cain hated and killed his brother Abel. The evil attitude of jealously and hatred for one another has been embedded in the heart of all of us from the very beginning, and unless we accept and apply the cure for this spiritual disease of the heart, we will go on in our wicked ways and there will be no hope for our survival as an individual, as  a family, as a church, or as a nation.

We know the cause of the spiritual corruption which inhabits us, - it is sin, but do we know and accept the prescription  offered for the cure?

What is the cure?

The remedy for a sinful heart is a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the great physician, the healer of all our sickness, both physical and spiritual.  Only as we have acknowledged and repented of our sin, and asked for and have received his forgiveness,  and invite him to live in our heart through the indwelling Holy spirit , can we learn to live together with one another in unity and peace, and God will command his blessing upon us.

"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" Psalm 133:1

Philippians 1:27 - Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
Romans 12:16 - "Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits."

Romans 15:5 - "Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be like minded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:"

Romans 14:19 -" Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

"(A Song of degrees of David.) Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore." Psalm 133

Walking by Faith!

 Thought for Today - March 25, 2024

 Walking by Faith!

By: Robert A. Searles

“(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)” 2 Cor  5: 7

What is Faith?
Hebrews 11:1 - "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Romans 10:17 - "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

Hebrews 11:6 - "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

"And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have  them". Mark 11: 22=24

" For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad." 2 Cor 5: 1-10

More Important Than Our necessary Food!

By: Robert A. Searles

God will bless abundantly  all who will diligently honor his word and as Job of old remarked: to consider the word of God more important and necessary than our necessary food -" Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food." Job 23: 1-12

“Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.”Psalm 119: 2

"ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways. Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!" Psalm 119: 1-5

Walk not in the Counsel of the Ungodly!

Walk not in the Counsel of the Ungodly!

By: Robert A. Searles

If we want to enjoy all the blessings that God has in store for us, we must be very careful with whom we associate, and listen to their counsel and act upon their advice.

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”Psalm 1: 1

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away." Psalm 1: 1-4

Remaining Stedfast !

By: Robert A. Searles

Let us be on guard against the tactics of Satan who goes about seeking whom he may devour with his lies, and with our daily trials and tribulations which we all face at times, cause us to doubt the word of God, his promises, and our salvation.  We must remain steadfast in our faith and confidence of that which we first believed of the word of God if we are to continue to  be partakers of Christ and his inheritance which he has imputed o us who believe and remain  steadfast

“For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end;”   Hebrews  3: 14

"So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.) Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end; While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?" Hebrews 3: 11-17

Light Up The World !

Light Up The World !

 By: Robert A. Searles
Let us Christians who love Christ shine as lights in the world, illuminating the darkness with our presence, and put to shame every evil thing because it is God who worketh in us to perform his good works.  We ought to work for God with fear and trembling.  We work for earthly employers with fear and trembling, fear of loss of rewards if we fail to perform as we are expected.  Much more we ought to work for God with fear of loss of much greater rewards if we fail to perform for him as we as Christians are expected.  We who are saved need to be diligent workers for the Lord.
“Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.  For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do  of his good pleasure.  Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye  may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; holding forth the word of  life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have  not run in vain, neither labored in vain.” Philippians 2: 12-16.

Rebellion Against God Results In Human Bondage !

By: Robert A. Searles
To have a rebellious spirit against God and his chain of authority on earth is like being bound with chains, and being left alone In the wilderness where there is no water and food.  The bible tells us that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.  Rebellion against God and his word is the root cause of all the troubles in the world.  When God's laws and instructions are strictly obeyed there is peace and harmony In our individual lives, our homes and families, our schools and churches, and our nation.
“God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.” Psalm 68:

Used of God!

 Thought for Today - March 19, 2024
Used of God!

BY: Robert A. Searles
, God uses for his purposes, the most unlikely people to do his work. Billy Sunday, an alcoholic, God saved, and he became a great evangelist, preaching the gospel of Christ, and the evils of alcohol. John Newton, a notorious slave trader, alcoholic, self proclaimed libertine, was, by the grace of God, saved, and became a great preacher of the gospel, and gave to the world his confession in song, the beautiful hymn: "Amazing Grace" and many others.
Saul of Tarsus, the great persecutor of the early Christians was met by Christ as he traveled to Damascus to bind and imprison Christians, and given the great commission to go to the gentile world, and be a witness for Christ, and there after became known as the great apostle Paul, who was responsible for planting churches everywhere he traveled. "And Saul, yet breathing out threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, and desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: and he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, who art thou, Lord? and the Lord said, I am Jesus, whom thou persecutest:It is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him ,arise, go into the city and it shall be told thee what thou must do." Acts 9: 1-6.
What might God have for us to do for him? If we are saved and in communion with God, the Holy Spirit will speak to us, and tell us what we are to do.

Made Rich in Christ!

 Thought  For Today - March 18, 2024
Made Rich in Christ!

By: Robert A. Searles

We, who are Christians, as the redeemed children of God, have a wonderful position in Christ's kingdom. We are sanctified in Christ, called to be saints. We are already the children of God. Our problem is that we do not always live up to the quality of our calling as the children of a king.

"I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; that in everything ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: so that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his son Jesus Christ our Lord." 1 Corinthians 1: 4-9.

God never fails us; he always keeps his promises.

For All Who Seek Freedom From Sin and Death

By: Robert A. Searles

"I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shall enlarge my heart. Psalm 119: 32

"Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God: which made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that  therein is: which keepeth truth forever: which executieth  judgment for the oppressed; which giveth food to the hungry: the Lord looseth the prisoners." Psalm 146: 5,6,7

"The Lord executieth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed." Psalm 103:16

"For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth  the hungry soul with goodness.  Such as sit in darkness and  in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron." Psalm 107:9, 10

"Jesus answered them: verily, verily, I say unto you, whosoever commiteth sin is the servant of sin." John 8: 34

"Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey' whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness." Romans 6:16

"...........for of whom a man is overcome of the same is he brought to bondage." 2 Peter 2:19

"And the servant abideth not in the house forever, but the son abideth ever." John 8: 35

"If the son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed." John 8;36

"For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." Romans 8:2

"Being then made free from sin, ye become the servant of righteousness>" Rom 6:18

"But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness,  and the end everlasting life." Romans 6: 22

"Now the Lord is that spirit: and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is  liberty." 2 Cor3:17

Jesus Never Fails!

Thought For Today - March 15, 2024
Jesus Never Fails!

By: Robert A. Searles

Men will disappoint you, but Jesus never fails. Men will abandon you, but Jesus will never leave you nor forsake you.

"When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up." Psalm 27:10.  Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior is one who sticketh closer than a brother.

"If ye love me, keep my commandments and I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another comforter, that he may abide with you forever: even the spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive because it seeth him not neither knoweth him: but ye know him ;for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." John 14:15-17.

"If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him." John 14:23.

"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." Philip 1:6.

Put your confidence and trust in Christ, and not man. Christ is in control of all men ultimately and all elements of creation must obey him in the end.

Here to Serve!

  Thought for Today - March 14, 2024

 Here to Serve!

By: Robert A. Searles

Once we are saved, we are left here on earth to serve the Lord, and to continue his ministry of reconciliation and good works which Jesus began when he was with us on earth. Now, the members of his body, being many and scattered throughout the world, having been anointed with the power of the Holy Spirit, can accomplish great things for him if we are willing and obedient servants. We are left here on earth after we are saved, not to do our own will but the will of him who saved us. The repeated routine of every day life does not make a lot of sense unless we realize why we are doing it. We work to buy food, clothing, and shelter, and some luxuries so that we can take proper care of these bodies, and be happy. Why do we do these things? It ought to be so that the Holy Spirit which lives within us can use us to accomplish great things for the glory of God. “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” Psalm 100: 1-5 (KJV)

No Blank Pages

Thought For Today - March 13, 2024
No Blank Pages
By: Robert A. Searles

Each new day is a page in the story of our life.  God forbid that there should be one page left blank on which God does not receive honor and praise and glory.

“This is the day which the Lord hath made, let us therefore rejoice and be glad in it.”  Give God the glory, for great things he hath done.  Without him we could do nothing.  With him we can accomplish great things.  We are indeed more than conquerors through him who loved us.  Today let us be grateful for God's kindness and mercies.

Today let us sing forth his praise.  Oh Lord help us by your grace to love you more and worship you more.  Help us to grow in wisdom and the knowledge of Christ so that: “....we might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding that ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God, strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience, and long suffering with joyfulness: giving  thanks unto the Father which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who Hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his  dear son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins; who is the image of the invisible God, the first born of every creature: For by him were all  things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him and for him  and he is before all things and by him all things consist. Colossians 1: 9-17

Keep On Sowing

Thought For Today - March - 6, 2024
Keep On Sowing

By: Robert A. Searles
When we go forth to sow the seed of the word of God, we must expect that not every single seed that we sow will take root and grow and bring forth fruit for the glory of God. Just as when the farmer sows seeds of grain, some seed will fall by the wayside and be lost, or the birds will devour them.  Some seeds fall into rocky places where there is not much to nurture them, and they are left for the sun to wither them away.  Some seeds fall among thorns which choke them up and hinder their growth.
When the word of God falls upon an unsaved person's ears for the first time, if God has not prepared that person's heart to receive the seed of the word, even as the farmer has prepared the soil to receive the grain seed, then the seed falls upon dry ground, and Satan is ever around and ready to snatch away the seed of the word of God.
Some people have had their hearts stirred by God and are ready to receive God's truth, and for a little while the seeds spring forth, but before long the heart is dried up and hardened by trials and tribulations, and no fruit is produced.  Then there is the seed that has fallen among thorns.  The thorns represent those who at one time, with joy and gladness, have received the word of God, and for a time it sprang up in them to produce healthy plants for the Lord and for a season bore fruit; but because of associations with the wrong kinds of people, or associations with worldly things, the cares and riches of the world, have choked them and now they no longer grow and bear fruit.
But there is  always that small percentage of seed which is sown and falls into good ground.  The good ground is the person who hears the word and understands it, and in him the word grows and bears fruit.
We who are sowers of the word of God must not become discouraged  when some of our seed falls by the wayside, or upon dry ground, or  among thorns, because some will always fall upon good ground.  That which falls upon good ground will bring forth abundantly for the Lord.
“And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, behold, a sower went forth to sow; and when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side,  and the fowls came and devoured them up:  Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they  sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth, and when the sun was up, they were scorched, and because they had no root, they withered away.  And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up and choked them, but other fell unto good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an   hundredfold, some sixty fold, some thirty fold.  Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.” Matthew 13: 3-9.
“Hear ye therefore the  parable of the sower.  When any one heareth the word of the kingdom and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart.  This is he which received seed by the wayside. But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the  word, and anon with joy receiveth it, yet hath he no root  in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulations or persecutions arise then because of the word, by  and by he  is offended.  He also that received  seed  among the thorns is he that heareth the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word,  and he becometh unfruitful.  But he that received  seed unto good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it, which also beareth fruit ,and bringeth forth some an
hundred fold, some sixty, some thirty.” Matthew 13: 18-23.
May we who are laborers for the Lord and sowers of the seed of his word, not become discouraged and quit when we see no immediate and visible   results of our labor.  Some of the seeds we sow willl find good ground and take root and grow and bring forth a bountiful harvest for our Lord.

Ripe Unto Harvest!

Thought For Today - March 4, 2024
Ripe Unto Harvest!
By: Robert A. Searles

"And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes he was moved with compassion on them because they fainted, and were scattered abroad having no shepherd.” Matthew 9: 35,36.

Jesus sees the multitudes that are in the world today who are fainting and scattered abroad , and have no shepherd, and are spiritually starving for words of compassion and comfort. When Jesus ascended into heaven, he gave his disciples the great commission to go into all the world and preach his gospel of salvation; and to heal the sick; to comfort the weary; and to bring hope of eternal life to the lost.

They, through the word of God, have passed this great commission down to us today. All who call themselves Christians have been given this great responsibility to continue the ministry of Jesus here on earth. until he returns for his church.

One only has to look upon the world conditions today to see the multitudes in need of teaching and spiritual leadership. The harvest is truly white and ready, but who will answer the call, who will go? The call for laborers has been issued, the need is great, but few are those who answer the call.

Some one has wisely said: "None of us can do everything, but all of us can do something, and what we can do we ought to do" all for the glory of God to draw all men and women, boys and girls to a saving knowledge of Christ.

"Then saith he unto his disciples, the harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few, pray ye therefore, the Lord of the harvest that he will send forth laborers into his harvest." Matthew 9: 37,38.
