God's Advice When We Are Tempted to Be Bitter

Thought for Today -  June 30

God's Advice When We Are  Tempted to Be Bitter

By: Robert A. Searles

"He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty: And he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a  city." Prov 16: 32

"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as  sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.  And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all  faith, so that I could remove  mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itelf, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the  truth; beareth all things, believeth all  things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail, whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.  When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face; now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth  faith, hope, charity, these three, but the greatest of these is charity." 1 Cor 13

"Let no corrupt communications proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness , and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice: and be ye kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.  Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children: And walk in love, as Christ  also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour." Ephes 4: 29- 5:2

"Follow peace  with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and  thereby many be defiled." Heb 12: 14-15

Rescue the Hopeless

 Thought for Today - July 19, 2022

Rescue the Hopeless

By: Robert  A. Searles

We do not need to linger long on any news channel before we come to understand, that our country and the whole world is inundated  in adversity.  That is ...trouble, hardship, hopelessness , etc.

"If thou faint in the day of adversity thy strength is small." Prov 24: 10

Those of us which are saved need not  faint in the time of adversity, for we have an anchor for our soul, and  that anchor is Christ  who is our strength.

But what about the multitudes all around us, those who have no sure anchor for their souls.; those who know not Christ ? Thousands are living in fear and anxiety, not knowing where to turn, without any hope.  God's word tell us that it is the responsibility of those of us who are safe in the arms of Jesus, to seek and warn those who are drawn unto death.

"Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice  to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked." Psalm 82: 3,4 Also tell them that: "Jesus Saves", and that  "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3: 16

If we fail to do that which the Word of God has commandede us to do, we will have to give an account unto God.

"If thou forbear  to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; if thou sayest, behold,  we knew it not, doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it?
and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall he not  render to every man according to his works." .Prov 24:12

God's Advice When We Are Challenged by Our Enemy

 Thought for Today -June 18

God's Advice When We Are Challenged by Our Enemy

By: Robert A. Searles

"Be strong and of good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I swear unto their  fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from  it to the right hand  or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. This book of the law shalt not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate  therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: For then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have great success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. "Joshua 1:6-9

"Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up, he fighting daily  oppresseth me. Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most high. What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what man can do  unto me." Psalm 56: 1-4

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, or life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Rom 8: 38, 39

"But we have this treasure in  earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we we are perplexed, but not  in despair; persecuted, but not  forsaken; cast down, but not  destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of  the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. for we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you.  We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is writtem, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and  shall present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.  For which cause we faint not, but though out outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.  For our light  affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.  While we look not at the  things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for  the things which are seen are temporal; but the  things which are not seen are eternal." 2 Cor 4: 7-14

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be  able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt  about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness: and your feet shod with the preparation of  the gospel  of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye  shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the  helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all  saints." Ephes 6: 10-18

"For I am now  ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight,  I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them that love his appearing." 2 Tim 4: 6-8

God's Advice When Establishing a home

Thought for Today - June 16

God's Advice When Establishing a Home

By: Robert A. Searles

"And if  it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, chose you this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose  land ye dwell: but  as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24e: 15

"Therefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his  house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods  came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell  not for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayins of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat  upon  that house, and it fell: And great was the fall of it." Math 7: 24-27

"So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies, He that loveth his wife loveth himself  . For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth, and cherisheth it, even  as the Lord and the church. For we are members of his body, of his fesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined  unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. Children, obey your parents in  the Lord: for this is right, Honor thy father and mother;( which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and   thou mayest live long on the earth. And ye fathers, provoke not your your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."Ephes 5: 28-6:4.

"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. children, obey your parents in all things: For this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be"" discouraged." Col 3; 18-21

"Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any  obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; while they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel: But let it be the hidden man of the heart in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is  in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord; whose  daughters ye are, as long as ye do well , and are not afraid with any amazement Likewise, ye  husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker  vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that  your prayers br not hindered." 1 Peter 3: 1-7

God's Advice When We Are in A Position of Responsibility

Thought For Today - June 13

God's Advice When We Are in A Position of Responsibility

By: Robert A. Searles

"The Lord by wisdom hath founded the  earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. By his knowledge the depths were  broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew. My son , let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: so shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shalt not stumble. When thou liest down, thou shalt not  be afraid: yea, thou  shalt lie down , and thy sleep shall be sweet. Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. for the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken. Withhold not good from them  to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it." Prov 3: 19-27

"Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.  Let all your things be  done with charity." 1 Cor 16: 13-14

"And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season  we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." Gal 6: 9-10

God's Advice When We Are Prone To Judge Others

Thought for Today - June 12

God's advice When We Are Prone to Judge Others

By: Robert A. Searles

"Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured  to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?. Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye, and then  shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." Math 7: 1-5

"Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. But with me  it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine  own self. For I know  nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified:: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.  Therefore judge  nothing before the time, until the Lord Come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God." 1 Cor 4: 1-5

"My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. for if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor mn in vile raiment. And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, sit thou here in a good place, and say to the  poor stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil  thoughts?  Hearken, my beloved brethren, hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich  in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? But ye have despised the poor. do not rich  men oppress you, nd draw you  before the judgment seats? do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which  ye are called? If ye fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well: but if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. For whosoever shalt keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said, do not commit adultery, said also, do not kill, Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty, For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment ." James 2: 1-13

"Speak not evil one of another, brethren, He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth  the law: but if thou  judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy:  who art thou that judgest another?'. James 4: 12-13

God's Advice When We Struggle With Lust

Thought for Today - June 8

God's Advice When We Struggle With Lust

By: Robert A. Searles

"If a man be found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the  woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel. If a damsel that is a virgin  be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you." Deut 22: 22-24

"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust  after her hath committed  adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee,  pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand  offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.." Math 5: 27-30

"What shall we say then? Is the law sin?  God forbid. Nay,I had not known sin, but by the law: For  I had not known lust, except the law had said, thou shalt not covet." Rom 7: 25

"Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: For he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not kill,  thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness, thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  Love worketh no ill to his neighbou: therefore love is  the fulfilling of the  law. And that, knowing the  time, now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our  salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the aday is a t hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk honestly as  in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.  But put ye on the Lord  Jesus Christ,  and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfil the  lust thereof." Rom 13: 8-14

"Know ye not that your bodies  are the members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is  joined to an harlot is one body? For  two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined  unto the  Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?  For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" 1Cor 6: 15-20

"This I say then, walk in the spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.  For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. " Gal 5: 16,17

"Let no man  say when  he is tempted, I am tempted of God: For God  cannot be tempted  with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin,  and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err,  my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the  Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shawdow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures." James 1: 13-18

God's Advice When We Struggle With Laziness

Thought For Today - June 6

God's Advice When We Struggle  With Laziness

By: Robert A. Searles

Go to the ant, thou sluggard, consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer,or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer' and gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of  the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man." Prov 6: 6-11

"He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame" Prov 10: 4-5

"See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise. Redeeming the time, because the days  are evil ." Ephes 5: 15-16

"And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you: That ye may walk honestly toward men that are without, and ye may have lack of nothing." 1 Thes 4: 11-12

"Now we command you brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that  ye withdraw yourselves from every  brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. For yourselves know how ye ought  to follow us for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travil night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an  ensample unto you to follow us. for even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.  For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.  Now them  that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. But ye brethren, be not weary in well doing. And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no  company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother." 2 Thes 3: 6-15

God's Advice When We Seek Revenge

Thought for  Today - June 5

God's Advice When We Seek Revenge

By: Robert A. Searles

"To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste." Deut 32: 35

"O Lord God, to whom  vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth,  shew thyself." Psalm 94: 1

"If thine enemy be hungry, give him to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him to drink. For thou shalt  heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee." Prov 25: 21, 22

"Ye have heard that it hath been said, an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: but I say unto you, that ye resist  not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek , turn to him the other  also. And if a  man will sue thee at  the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow  of thee turn not thou  away," Math 5: 38-42

"Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.  If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord, Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him, if he be thirsty, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." Rom 12: 17-21

"See that none render evil for evil unto any man, but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men." 1 Thes 5: 15

"Finally, be ye  all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be  courteous. Not rendering evil  for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise  blessing: knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit  a blessing."  1 Peter 3: 8-9

God's Advice When We Have Been Quarreling

Thought for Today - June  4

God's Advice When We Have Been Quarreling

By: Robert A. Searles

"And Lot also, which went with Abram, and flocks, and herds, and tents.  And the land  was not able to bear them, that they might dwell  together; for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell  together.  And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled  then in the land.  And  Abram said unto Lot, let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen  and thy herdmen, for we be brethren.  Is not the  whole land before thee? Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: If thou will take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I  will go to the left.  And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain  of Jordan, that it was well watered every where before the Lord destroyed Sodom and  Gomorrah, even as the garden of the  Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.  Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other." Gen 13: 5-11

"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.  It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his  garments; as the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore." Psalm 133

"I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called. With all lowliness and meekness, with long suffering, forbearing one another in love,  endeavouring to keep  the unity of the spirit, in the bond of peace.  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as we are called in one hope  of your calling.  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,.  One God and Father of all, who is  above all, and through all, and in you all." Ephes 4: 1-6

"Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his  neighbour: for  we are members one of another. Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun god down upon your wrath: neither give place to the devil." Ephes 4: 25-27

"Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.  And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus: who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some

Nevertheless the foundations of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his.  And let  every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.  but in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to  honor and some to  dishonor.

If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every  god work.  Flee also youthful lust: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart,  But foolish and unlearned questions avoid,  knowing that they do gender strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will  give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will."

 2 Tim14-26

"From whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence , even of your lusts that war in your members?  Ye lust and have not; ye kill and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight  and war, and yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lust. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Do you think that the scripture saith  in vain, the spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth  the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble  yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Speak not evil one of nother, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, speaketh evil of the law. and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? "
