God's Promise of Forgiveness

  Thought for Today  - August 11, 2023
God's Promise Of Forgiveness
By: Robert A. Searles

The question is asked - “Who shall ascend unto the hill of the Lord?, Or who shall stand in his Holy place?” Psalm 24: 3 (KJV).

Since the fall of mankind in Eden, no one has been found to be qualified to stand in his own righteousness, before God, because the answer to this question, and requirement is - “He  that hath clean hands and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity; nor sworn deceitfully.  He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.” Psalm 24: 4, 5.

Only one person has ever qualified to enter the gate of God's holiness, and he alone is righteous among men.  He alone has clean hands and a pure heart, and has not lifted up his  soul to vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.  His name is Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, the Messiah who came down from God.  He alone may enter, in his own righteousness, into the presence of God the Father.

For God has declared that  there is none righteous.  “For as it  is written, there is none righteous, no not one.” Romans 3:10  “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of  God.” Romans 3: 23 (KJV)

The good news is, that there is no sin that God cannot or will not forgive if we will humble ourselves and by faith ask for his forgiveness.  Jesus, while feasting in the house of a Pharisee, forgave a sinful woman, who showed her faith and acceptance of him by washing his feet with her hair, and anointed them with precious ointment. See Luke 7: 36-50

If we expect to be the recipient of God's mercy and forgiveness, we must not hold resentments and grudges against those who have trespassed against us, but we must be willing to forgive as God has forgiven us

All of mankind carries a heavy burden on his shoulders, and that burden weighs him down,  and causes  him shame, and degradation, and if not removed, will send him to hell.  That burden on the shoulder of all mankind is sin.  Those who continue to carry that heavy burden of sin in their heart, can have no fellowship  with God. And since God created man to enjoy his fellowship,  and when a man's fellowship with his creator is not a fact of his life, then man is like the beast of the earth that perish. God is not willing that any should perish. He has provided a way by which all men and women, boys and girls, can  have the burden of sin removed from them, and their fellowship with him restored.

Without God's fellowship, men and women, boys and  girls, perish;  families fall apart; nations and empires crumble.  It is almost impossible today to turn on the television or log on to the internet without seeing someone with a gun or weapon in his hand ready to kill, or to witness someone in bed with another person's wife or husband, committing adultery, or hearing filthy blasphemous words being broadcast for all to hear.  How could a Holy God have fellowship with that kind of trash?

I fear for our nation that,  if it's people do not turn from their wicked ways and get back to the business of fellowship with God. who has made provision for,  all who will, to  accept his offer of salvation, that fearful judgements will fall upon us.  God is more willing to forgive than we are to be forgiven.  God has promised us forgiveness and restoration to fellowship with him if we will only accept his  terms.

What are God's terms?  They are – to humble ourselves; pray; turn from our wicked ways; seek God; Then God is faithful to keep his covenant with men.  God hears; forgives sin; heals; the Lord is merciful, gracious, slow to anger; plenteous in mercy; he remembers sin no more; the lost are found and restored to fellowship with him.  God has provided forgiveness to all who will call upon him.and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

A well known promise from the word of God which has been  repeated and quoted and preached many times, but is truly valid  for the salvation of our nation - “If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and heal their land.” 2Chronicles 7: 14 (KJV)

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1: 9

“The  Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.  He will not always chide; neither will he keep his anger forever.  He hath not  dealt with us according to our iniquity.  For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.  As far as the east is from the west, so far  hath he removed our transgressions from us.”. Psalm 103: 8 -12

“And they shalt teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, know the Lord; for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, sayeth the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity; and I will remember their sins no more.” Jeremiah 31: 34

How wonderful for us to have God remember our sins no  more!  God has provided  a way that  his promise of forgiveness may be fulfilled through his only begotten son, the Lord  Jesus Christ.  Christ died for our sins according to the   scriptures, he was buried and rose  again the third day, according to the scriptures, he ascended into heaven-and is now our high priest interceding for us.  He will come again  at God's appointed time to restore all kingdoms and nations to himself.

Bring Your Burdens to the Lord

  Thought for Today  -  May  30 2022

Bring Your Burdens To The Lord.  By: Robert A. Searles

Jesus extended an invitation to all who are weary and heavy laden to come unto him, and he would give them rest. He came into the world to be our burden bearer and our sin bearer.

“Surely he hath borne our grief's, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God and afflicted.” Isaiah 53: 4.

“That it might be fulfilled which was spoken of Esaias the prophet, saying, himself took our infirmities and bare our sickness.” Matthew 8: 17.

What burdens lay heavy on our souls today? Is it the burden of unforgiven sin? Is it the burden of doubts and fears, or the burden of sickness and immanent death? Do we grieve today over the loss of family, friends, or loved ones? Are we perplexed, not knowing where to turn or what road to take to solve our problems? Are we overly concerned about how we will meet the challenges of the future?

Jesus stands ready to make an exchange of burdens. If we are willing to lay all our cares and burdens upon him, he will bear them for us, but we, in exchange, must be willing to put his yoke upon our shoulders and be busy with him. When we are yoked together with him, he is bearing the heavier part of the load and our burdens become lighter.

We are told to take our burdens to the Lord and leave them there.

“Burdens are lifted at Calvary.” Jesus said: “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” Matthew 11: 28-30.

Lie Not Against the Truth

Thought for Today  -  May 31,2022

Lie Not Against The  Truth  -  By: Robert A. Searles

“Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom decendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is there is confusion and every evil work.” James 3: 13-16

Dear friends, one of the methods that Satan uses to try to destroy us and to ruin our testimony as aChristian is to cause us to harbor bitter envying and strife in our heart. Satan knows the effect that bitterness and strife can have on our mind and our bodies. It can cause an imbalance in the chemical make up in our bodies, eventually causing breakdown and illness, and it can cause our thinking process to be irrational and perverted; also , it can cause our thoughts to be turned away from our blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

My friend, if there is any trace of bitterness or strife in your heart this morning as you begin this new day, glory not, but confess it to God and lie not against the truth. Jealousy, envy and covetousness are all grievous sins and displeasing to God our Father who has promised to be generous to his children and to provide for all our needs. Bitterness, envy, strife, jealousy and covetousness are the elements which lead to war.

“From whence come wars and fighting among you? Come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and can not obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not because ye ask not. Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” James 4: 1-3

Dear friend in Christ, let us turn to our Lord, our Savior Jesus Christ this morning, and to the written word which he has given us, and allow the Holy Spirit, through the word of God to wash away all this bitterness, and to cleanse us and make us fit vessels for the master's use. Get into the word of God, and by the washing of the word, be clean.

“For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy, and the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace” James 3: 16-18

“But he giveth more grace, wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” James 4: 6-10

Born of God

  Thought For Today  - May 27, 2022

Born Of God.  -   By: Robert A. Searles

“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3.

“Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot see the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.” John 3: 5, 6, 7.

My friend, if you cannot fully appreciate the word of God, believe its' promises, and perceive with your heart and mind all the glories, joys, and happiness of the kingdom of God; if you cannot enjoy the fellowship with God as a parent – child relationship, and experience the sense of justification and forgiveness of sins past, present, and future, perhaps it is because you have never truly been “born again” into the family of God.

When Adam and Eve our first earthly parents disobeyed God at the very beginning of creation, they sold their birthright to Satan, and since then every human being that has ever been born has inherited the sin nature, and comes into the world already estranged from God. So, when we are born, we are born in the flesh only. Our spiritual life does not begin at the time of our physical birth. Although God is the creator of all, he is not the father of all until his child has been conceived and born.

God is spirit, he must be worshiped in spirit, and to become a child of God, we must be born in the spirit.

“The natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of God for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2: 14.

In order to be born into the family of God, it is totally a work of God's grace. We must be drawn by God to hear and accept the word of God as absolute truth, and by faith believe, as it says that - “All scripture is given by inspiration of God”, and that “holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the holy ghost.”

One must accept by faith that Jesus Christ is the divine son of God, and that he died for the sins of each individual person who will receive him, and that his bodily resurrection was proof that God had accepted his sacrifice in payment of their sin debt, and for the justification of all who will receive him. Intellectual knowledge is not enough. The heart must confirm by faith, that which the mind knows factually.

The world says prove it to me, and I will believe. God says, believe me and then I will prove it to you by spiritual discernment.

“God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God. John 3: 16, 17, 18.

“As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them who believe on his name, which were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1: 12, 13.

Dear reader, I invite you to believe the word of God; to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. If God is drawing you to himself, and has implanted within your heart a grain of faith as minute as the grain of mustard seed, if you are willing, by receiving the Word of God into your heart, this grain of faith will become impregnated with the word of God, and cause you to become a child of God. Then the Holy Spirit will dwell within you and cause you to know God, enjoy God, and perceive the kingdom of God, and have the assurance of eternal, everlasting life.

We Become That Which We Think About

 Thought For Today -  September 26, 2023

We Become Like That Which We Think About

  By:Robert A. Searles

“The wicked through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God; God is not in all his thoughts.” Psalm 10:4.

Do we seek after God the very first thing that we do when we awake each morning? Is God in all our thoughts, or is God in any of our thoughts? It is very possible to perform services in the name of God, and to do good works in the name of God without really giving much thought to God, and without really seeking the presence and fellowship with God.

Do we really worship and praise God in the spirit? Do we worship God in the beauty of his holiness, are we truly in love with God, or are we just in love with the idea of appearing Godly?

Young people reach an age when they think that all that matters is being in love with members of the opposite sex. Psychiatrist will tell you that most of the time, they are not in love with any one person, but they are in love with the idea of love, because it seems to be the in thing to do. This is why it is dangerous for young people to get deeply involved with this sort of thing until they get older, but this is just an example of what can happen to us as Christians. We can become so involved in the idea of serving God, and being all wrapped up in activities, and going to church, and we can get so busy doing things, that we might forget to seek God, and exclude him from any or all of our thoughts. If we are to worship God properly, the way that God wants us to worship him in the beauty of holiness, we must worship him in spirit and in truth. God must be predominant in all our thoughts. What does it mean for God to be predominant in all our thoughts? It means that when we awake from sleep, our first thought will cause us to consciously fix our mind upon the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father, and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and that by the process of our will, we choose to keep our mind fixed upon God all during our working hours. Every thought that comes into our mind during the course of the day will be in subjection to him. This is what it means to keep our mind and hearts stayed on him.

“Thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee.” Isaiah 26: 3

We are, and will become that which we think about. We can choose that which we think about; therefore, it is up to us really what we are, and what we will become, because by the process of our conscious will we choose the things that we think about.

If the predominate thought in our mind is on the Lord Jesus Christ, and the beauty of his holiness, then we will, more and more each day grow into his image and likeness.

Proverbs 23: 7 tells us that : “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he."

Again, we are and become that which we think about.“Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable, and perfect will of God.” Romans 12: 2.

Our power with God, and our blessings from God are directly related to our prayer life. What is prayer? Prayer is the verbal expression of the thoughts of our heart. In prayer, our lips express the thoughts of our mind. It is in the mind that we must worship God in spirit, and it is in our mind that we must pray. Our power and blessing from God comes through praying without ceasing. 1 Thes 5:17 tells us to “pray without ceasing”

How can we pray without ceasing? We pray without ceasing by thinking, without ceasing, of the Lord Jesus Christ. “In all thy ways acknowledge him and he will direct thy paths” Proverbs 3:6

“Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are of good report: if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Phil 4:8. We are and  become that which our mind is fixed upon

Are You Saved?

 Thought for Today - September 13, 2023

 Are You Saved?  -

  By: Robert A.Searles

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Christ Jesus came into the world to save me, and Christ Jesus came into the world to save you. Are you saved?

If you cannot say with absolute assurance that you are saved and know for sure that you will go to heaven when you die, then it is absolutely true, according to the teaching of the Holy Scriptures, the Holy Bible, that you are still lost, and if you are still lost when you die, you will spend eternity in hell forever with all its' misery and torments, separated from all that is pure and lovely, and righteous, apart from the presence of God forever.

The apostle Paul, writing to Timothy said: “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners: of whom I am chief.” 1 Timothy 1:15 \\

If the apostle Paul declared himself to be chief of sinners, where does that leave each of us? This should convince each of us that we are lost and need a Savior.

We have a Savior provided for us if we will believe him; accept and believe his word when he, through the scriptures, warns us of our fate if we make the wrong choices concerning him.

“As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one: there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” Romans 3: 10-12.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3: 23.

God in his love for us has offered us a remedy for this condition by offering to us by his mercy and grace, his own righteousness through Christ.

“Therefore, by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets, even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe.” Romans 3: 20-22

Otherwise: if we refuse God's offer of salvation through Christ – then -”The wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6: 23.

If we choose to receive wages for our sinful works, then we receive eternal death; but if we would rather rely on the free gift of God, and denounce our sinful works and our own righteousness as “filthy rags”, and acknowledge that Christ paid our sin debt with his blood and sacrifice for us, then we are freely given life eternal.

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deedes were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, that his deeds should be reproved; but he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought of God.” John 3: 14-21

“He that believeth on the son hath everlasting life, and he that believeth not the son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” John 3: 36.

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. “ 1 John 1: 10. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1: 9

How about it? Are you saved? Will you choose life or death? Will you choose light or darkness? Will you choose Christ or the Devil?  Don't be deceived, if you do not choose to accept the love of Christ and his finished work on the cross for your eternal salvation, then you have automatically chosen the Devil and will be condemend with him in hell forever according to the word of God.

Backward and Inside Out

 Thought For Today - July 20, 2023

Backward And Inside Out  -   By: Robert a. Searles

I sometimes fear for our great country, that we might ever be becoming more ripe for the judgment of God, because, more and more it seems that in order to be politically correct, we must turn our backs on absolute truth, and be disobedient to the moral laws and commandments of God and the values of our fathers that once made our land, America, the leader among nations. But more recently those values are being compromised and corrupted, and turned inside out, so to speak, particularly in governmental circles. A warning was issued by the prophet Isaiah to the nation of Israel many centuries ago that because of this very thing, judgment was pending, and history has proven that judgment did come just as Isaiah had predicted.

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil, that put darkness for light, and light for darkness, that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5: 20.

Who can deny that this is taking place in America today? That which God calls evil, men consider it to be normal and right, and that which God says is good, men ridicule as being old fashioned and irrelevant in today's society. Principles that are being taught and fostered in our educational system today are in direct opposition to the principles that a Holy God has laid down in his Holy Word. According to worldly standards, darkness is considered light, and light is to be considered to be darkness, and bitter is sweet, and sweet is bitter.

“Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight.” Isaiah 5: 21.

Men and women of science, so called, who in their estimation of themselves and their work, think that by their own intelligence and wisdom, they can solve all the mysteries of life and the universe without bringing into their laboratory any consideration of the supernatural intelligence and power of our living God. They prefer to give credit for un-explainable events in the universe to “mother nature” rather than to our “Father God”

“Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!” Isaiah 5:22.23

Instead of being influenced by the spirit of God as God had intended for his creation, men have in the past and still are today, making important and crucial decisions and laws under the influence of alcohol, and drugs, and mind controlling substances. Also, who will deny that many times the wicked are justified and criminals go free through bribes and payoffs of the wealthy in high places.

We must take heed to our ways lest we be judged and destroyed as a free nation under God. We as Christians, in particular, while we wait for the rapture of the church, which according to the word of God will surely come, must take our head out of the sand, and come out of our secluded closets, and let those in authority know that we want truth – God's truth, his morality and his righteousness to prevail in our country. God is not mocked, he is the same today as he was in Isaiah's day. When our great country was founded, there were "Isaiah 's"  in the pulpits across the land thundering out their warning from the word of God, and warning of the consequences of sin and disobedience of the word of God. As a result of their preaching, sinners came running to the altar in repentance, falling on their faces, and begging God's forgiveness.

Preachers - instead of seeking everyone's approval and admiration, stand in your pulpits on Sunday mornings, Sunday Evenings, and whenever you have opportunity and tell it like it is. Ask the Holy Spirit, to enable you with power from on high , through you, to name those things which are a stench in the nostrils of God. If you step on my toes, so to speak, and I am convicted of sins in my life that need to be changed, and if you scare the "hell" out of me, then so be it if it means I am all the better for it

If you violate the so called laws of "political correctness" for naming and identifying particular sins, and even lose your tax exemptions, so be it, God will reward you and make up the difference. Use your office as the servant of God and as Isaiah did in his day in Israel, cause the hills and mountains of America to shudder and tremble at the anger of God, but always remind us  of the outstretched hand of God's mercy and forgiveness when we acknowledge our sins and repent.

“Therefore, as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so, their root shall be as rottenness. And their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the holy one of Israel. Therefore is the anger of the Lord kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.” Isaiah 5: 24,25.

God will surely spare us and bless us if we will sincerely turn back to him, confess our sins, and seek his righteousness.

 May God truly bless America!

Is God Real to You?

 Thought for Today  -  August 6, 2023

 Is God Real To You?

 By: Robert A. Searles

Is God real in your life? What, or who do you really think God is? Is God an intricate part of you as an individual? Is God as much a part of you as your breathing, or your heartbeat, or your walking and moving about? Is God just an ideal; a good idea? Is God just a philosophy of life that we pick from a book? Is God just a psychological means of control to keep us from doing immoral things? Is God just a good thought that we think about for a few moments each day, and then close the book and put it on the shelf for another day, or until something bad or unpleasant happens to us for which we have no answer, and we recognize that we need wisdom beyond ourselves? What and who is God to you as an individual?

God's word teaches us that God is a spirit, a supernatural invisible spirit. They that worship God must worship him in spirit. God's word teaches us that the supernatural invisible spirit of God manifested himself in the person and body of Jesus of Nazareth while he was on earth. Jesus ascended into heaven after his resurrection, and sent the Holy Spirit to literally live in our bodies.

If we choose and desire to have it so, God the Holy Spirit will clean our house and literally, as a matter of fact, actually take up residence in our bodies. At this point it is God himself living in us to will and to do of his good pleasure. If we choose to have it so, it will be God himself in us creating our wants and desires, and it will be God himself in us controlling our thoughts and the very movements of our bodies.

If God is really living in us, we don't really have to set up a lot of rules and regulations for ourselves, because it will be God himself that will be in control., We have to grasp the principle that we were made and designed to be the house and temple of God the place where God lives, and walks, and has his being. Of course , before God can live in us, we must be changed, we must be born again through faith in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ, and we must willingly yield ourselves and open the door so that the Holy Spirit can move in and take charge.

Where do you go for counsel? Do you look to people, someone whom you admire for their great intellectual capacities, or do you look within yourselves, to the Holy Spirit of God who dwells and lives in each one of his born again children?

”Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, but not of me; and that covereth with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin that walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt. Isaiah 30: 1,2

. Did it ever occur to you that if you look to a person for counsel, even though that person may be a child of God, and even though that person may be much admired for his outward appearance and apparent service to the Lord, he may not be completely yielded himself to the spirit of God, and so be limited as to the wisdom he has from God? God want us to look to no person for counsel. He wants us to come directly to the throne of grace and seek his wisdom and counsel.

Do we pitch our tents, as Lot did, so that we can look toward Sodom? Have we separated ourselves unto God, just enough, so that if we wanted to, it would not be too difficult to take a walk down into Egypt, as it were, which is typical of the world of sin and bondage from which we came. Are we prone to trust in the shadow of Egypt? Do we say that we love and trust God, but after all when we get hungry we must run after the things of the world to get satisfied?

When we trust in men, and in the world system, and have no real vital relationship with the living God who wants to live and walk and abide in us, then no wonder we have no power, and are frustrated and confused.

“Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.”Isaiah30:3

The Spiritual Conflict

 Thought for Today -  May 17, 2022

The Spiritual Conflict -  By: Robert A Searles

When, by the grace of God, we are liberated, and set free from our natural state of blindness and of being oblivious to the things of God, and we by God's grace are given faith and spiritual sight to behold the glory of God and the truth of his word and his creations, we are reborn in the spirit, and suddenly we become aware of spiritual things, and we for the first time, come to see ourselves, as in a mirror, and we see the filthy rags of sin in which we are clothed. We see what we really are by ourselves in our own sinfulness, and we see the glory of God and the righteousness of Christ, and that which he has to offer us, and we cry out to him in despair – Oh God! be merciful to me a sinner, and save me for Christ's sake, and he hears our sincere prayer and immediately saves us. He pulls us up out of the miry pit and sets our feet upon the solid rock, then we have become the children of God, joint heirs with Christ, and inheritors of eternal life.

Since the fall of mankind in the garden of Eden, there has been a spiritual warfare raging on earth between God and Satan, and between the children of God and the children of the devil. The children of God, being clothed anew by the righteousness of Christ, are now enlisted in the spiritual army of God and wear the uniform of the valiant soldiers of the King of kings and Lord or lords, all for the glory and honor of their redeemer. We are charged by God that we might war a good warfare.

“Thou therefore endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.” 2 Timothy 2: 3,4.

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, where unto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6: 12

“But I see another law in my members, in warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.” Romans 7:23

The battle rages between good and evil, truth and error. The enemy is ruthless, and cruel, and powerful, and we are warned by our commander in chief to always be on the alert for the diabolical schemes of our adversary. He sets traps for us to fall into and be taken prisoner, and to be bound in spiritual chains from which, by our own effort is difficult or impossible to escape – bad habits, attitudes, fear, resentments hatred, anxiety, rebellion, doubts, unbelief -all these and many more lethal weapons he throws at us to destroy our testimony and our effectiveness in proclaiming the truth of God, and claiming territory and winning souls to Christ Our foes are invisible, therefore we are warned to- “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, is the word of God.” Ephesians 6: 10-17.

“Be sober, be vigilant: because your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour: whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” 1 Peter 5: 8,9

As soldiers of Christ, we have been well equipped and provided for the strife that lies before us. With Christ, as our commander in chief, our never failing conqueror, we are more than conquerors through him that loved us

. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.” 2 Corinthians 10: 4.

When we try to fight the battles of life with our own strength and resources, we fail miserably because in ourselves we are weak and easily succumb to temptations.

“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God,” Ephesians 6; 17.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 .

“The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.” Romans 13: 12.

“By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand, and on the left.” 2 Corinthians 6: 7.

“Let us who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.” 1 Thessalonians 5:8.

Our enemies are those within our own soul. The battle rages within us. It is here that we must meet the spiritual conflict. Take the weapons that God has provided- read and study the word of God, search for and believe all the promises of God, pray diligently for ourselves and others. Let us have the mind of Christ, and let his teaching dwell in our hearts, and let us walk and abide with him every day and hour of our lives. If we will do this we will have the victory.

The Awesome Power And Mercy of God!

 Thought for Today - May 18, 2023

The Awesome Power Of God's Love And Mercy By: Robert A. Searles

The raging sea, with its' resounding roar, battering the rugged, rocky, coastline; the roll of the thunder echoing across the valleys, lending a message of impending danger to man and beast, and warning them to seek cover; and the fearsome lightning streaking across the heavens, and striking where it may and destroying all in its' path, as well as the mighty force of wind hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes which tear up forests and make havoc of homes and property, speak to us of the mighty power and omnipotence of our awesome God and creator. When we observe the rage, anger, and power being displayed in these forces in the natural world, we are reminded from the scriptures, that God is exceedingly angry over sin every day; and if he chose to pour out his rage and anger on us as sinners, we would most surely be without hope and most miserable.

“God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.” Psalm 7: 11.

But God is loving, kind and merciful, and is not willing that any should perish.  If he chose to do so, in his exceeding wrath and anger over sin  He could use his power to destroy the world and cleanse it from all sin; but instead, as he restrains and limits the forces of nature, and sets the boundary of the raging seas, and allows it to come thus far and no more; and as he controls the thunder and lightning, and earthquakes, and natural disasters, so as to preserve man and beast, that men and women, boys and girls, might come to repentance and learn of him and be saved, he withholds from us his rage and anger, and pours out his mercy upon us.

“The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger. and of great mercy.” Psalm 145: 8.

We see the great wrath and anger of God poured out on his only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ, on Calvary's cross for our sins, that he might pay our sin debt for each of us. We see his great power revealed in the resurrection of Jesus as the first begotten from the dead for our justification, and we see his everlasting love and care for us in his ascension into heaven, and even now as our great high priest. We, the inhabitants of earth become severely angry at times, with each other, and with our circumstances, and sometimes our anger turns into rage, and when this happens, we lose control, unless we are walking closely with the Lord. When anger turns to rage, this can lead to murder and gross sins.

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath, for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” James 1: 19, 20. “Be ye angry, and sin not. Let not the sun go down upon your wrath. Neither give place to the devil. Ephesians 4: 26,27. “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor. Ephesians 5: 2. May we, as Christians,, strive to walk In love, and with the help and grace of God avoid extreme anger and rage that will lead to sin. Perhaps someone my be reading this who is not a Christian. I urge you, with all my heart, to stop and consider the infallible word of God, The Holy bible which tells us of the love of God for man kind. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures. He was buried and rose again the third day according to the scriptures. He showed him self alive after his resurrection by many infallible proofs. This was all accomplished by Christ in order that he might pay the penalty for the sins of all who would believe him and call upon him by faith. The question was asked a long time ago -how must I be saved? The answer came back – believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved, and thy house. I sincerely invite you to get alone in your quiet place, and call upon the Lord Jesus Christ, believing that he hears you, and ask him to forgive your sin and come live in your heart, and at that moment that you sincerely believe, your sins will be forgiven and you will be set free from the slavery of Satan. You will have become a new born child of God and eternal life with Christ will be yours forever. May God bless you.

When the Roll is Called Up Yonder

Thought For Today – May14, 2024
When The roll Is Called Up Yonder
By: Robert A. Searles
“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.”
“And he answered and spoke unto those who stood before him, saying, take away the filthy garments from him.  And unto him he said, behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.” Zec 3:4.
“And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there which had not on a wedding garment: and he saith unto him, friend , how camest thou in hither, not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.  Then said the king to the servants, bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness: there shall  be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  For many are called, but few are chosen.” Matthew 22: 11-14.
“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment: and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” Rev 3:5.
When the roll is called up yonder, will you be there? Is your name recorded in the Lamb's book of life? Have you responded to the Lord's invitation to sit at the banqueting table at the wedding feast of the Lord?  Have your filthy clothes been changed, and have you allowed  the Lord to clothe you with the shinning white garments of his righteousness.?  Have you acknowledged that you are a sinner by nature, as we all are, and that your own self righteousness is as filthy rags? We all need to be bathed in  the blood of the Lamb of God, and clothed with his garments of righteousness.  Unless we believe and come to Christ, and accept him as Savior and sacrifice for our sins, we will have to appear before God in our filthy rags, and our name will have been blotted out of the Lamb's book of life, and we will not hear the Lord calling  our name to enter into the banqueting hall.
The Lord has a robe of righteousness awaiting to be put on all those who will come to him and believing in him.  Do you know for sure that when the angel of the Lord stands in heaven to call the roll of all the saints, that your name will be called and not blotted out?  If you are not sure why not make sure of your salvation today, and believe and call upon Christ before it is too late?

God's Promise When we feel guilty

Thought for Today - May 11
God's Promise When We - Feel Guilty
By: Robert A. Searles

Appearing before the judgment seat of God - how do you plead – guilty, or not guilty of sinning and breaking the laws of God?  The prosecuting attorney, our accuser, which is, by the way, our own guilty conscience, if you will, bears witness, and makes stunning accusations against us before the throne of God.

Whether we want to admit it or not, we know that the witness of our own conscience is true – that we are indeed guilty of disobeying and sinning against God.  If we plead not guilty, we make God out to be a liar, because the Holy omniscient God has already declared that if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

When we try to hide our guilty conscience from God and others, and try to justify ourselves by our own good works, we fail miserably, and we end up bearing a heavy burden of guilty feelings on our shoulders.  Living with this heavy burden of guilty feelings on our shoulders day by day, not only effects us, and makes us miserable, but it also effects the lives of those around us as well.

Why not plead guilty before God.  Confess our sins, rely on God's mercy, and claim his promises for the remedy of a guilty conscience.  God has given to us precious promises to relieve our soul of guilt, and restore fellowship with himself.

Sin not confessed, causes us to be banished from God and from his fellowship, but God has made adequate provision  for us to be restored.

“For we must needs die, and are as water spilt upon the ground, which cannot be gathered up again, neither doth God respect any person: yet doth he devise means that his banished be not expelled from him.” 2 Samuel 14:14.

God in his mercy and love, has from the foundation of the earth, devised means whereby he can forgive sins and set the guilty free, and draw them back to himself.  “If thou Lord should mark iniquity, O Lord, who shall stand, but there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.” Psalm 130: 3,4.

God offered his son, who knew no sin, to suffer the penalty of our guilt by his death on the cross, and by his resurrection, justified all who will believe and receive him as Savior.  “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit.  For the law of the spirit of the life  in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death” Romans 8: 1,2.

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inhereit the kingdom of God?  Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminite, nor abusers with themselves with mankind, nor theives nor coveteous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.  And such were some of you:  But you are washed, but you are sanctifed, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of God.” 1 Corinthians 6: 9-11.

If any one who may be reading these lines is plagued and cast down with a heavy guilty concience, please believe and accept the promise of God.  “If we will confess our sins, he is just and able to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1: 9.

O Sinner, please accept Christ today.  Drop the heavy burden of guilt from your shoulders and go free.  Oh! Sinner, go free!

God's Promise When We Are Persecuted

Thought for Today - May - 7
God's Promise To Us When – We Are Persecuted
By: Robert A. Searles
“Yea, And all that will live godly in Christ Jesus Shall suffer persecution” 2 Timothy 3: 12.
Whatever comes our way, in the realm of trials, temptations, and persecution, we are assured  from the Holy Scriptures, that God sometimes wills and allows those things for our good, and perhaps for the good of those with whom we have an influence in our daily lives, so that,  perhaps they may witness our testimony of steadfastness for the Lord, and receive Christ and be saved.
The  spread of the gospel, was greatly expedited by the persecution of the early martyrs,   in the early days of the church after the ascension of the Lord into heaven,
Joseph was one who suffered persecution at the hands of his brothers when they became envious of him, and sold him into slavery; but this was meant for good for the saving of his family when they were  suffering a time of famine in their own land.  “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.'”  Genesis 50: 20.
Jesus has promised us that there are great rewards in heaven waiting for those who suffer persecution for the sake of righteousness here on earth.
“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are you when men shall  revile you, and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake.  Rejoice and be exceedingly glad; for great is your reward in heaven; for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. “ Matthew 5: 10-12.
In the days ahead, some of us Christians may have to suffer some severe persecution, if the Lord does not return soon.  Because of our not being “politically correct”, and  by not denying our faith in Christ; the absolute authority of the word of God;  and the desire for righteous living, -  in the opinion of unbelievers and wicked persons, we who hold to the truth of the Word of God are the wrong doers and deserve to be punished and persecuted for righteousness sake.  Even so, let us, if and when we are called upon to suffer persecution for Christ, remember the promise of God, that the wicked and evil workers of iniquity who bring persecution upon us will soon be cut down, and those who belong to  Christ shall prevail  and be more than conquerors with him
.     “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed,  but not in despair; persecuted but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed. Always bearing about in the body the dying of he Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live  are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.  So then, death worketh in us, but life in you. “ 2 Corinthians 4: 8-12.
“And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?  But and if ye suffer for righteousness sake, happy are ye, and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled. 1 Peter 3:  13-14
Let us not be boastful and over confident in our  own strength in the time of  persecution, as Peter did during the trial of Christ when he boasted that  he would never forsake  the Lord, but let us pray for one another that we may find grace in the time of need, and in the power of God remain faithful and steadfast in our faith.

More Than Our Necessary Food

Thought For Today - May 3
More Than Our Necessary Food  -  By: Robert A. Searles
Job said: "I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food." Job 23:12

As necessary as food and other things may be for our physical bodies, even more necessary is the Word of God and fellowship with God for the well being of our eternal soul. Our Lord and our God is the center and source of all things, both spiritual and material. He is the sustaining power and intelligence behind all things, and by which all creatures live and breath and have their being; therefore, we ought to "pant after God as the hart panteth after the water brook" and receive his instruction daily
"Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it." Proverbs 8:10,11
