Walking With God

Thought for Today -  July 11, 2023

Walking With God

 By: Robert A. Searles

Fellow Christians, let us examine ourselves, are we walking each day with God? Is he our constant companion wherever we go, and whatever we do? Do we go anywhere, or do anything that we could not go or do with the companionship of God? Are we really walking with God, or is he just tagging along behind because we have put ourselves, and other things ahead of him?

He has promised never to leave us, nor forsake us; but are we guilty of ignoring his presence with us, because sometimes we want to indulge ourselves; we want to go places, and do things, and be involved in things that we know God will not be a part of because he is Holy and righteous.?

“Enoch walked with God for three hundred years and begat sons and daughters, and all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty five years; and Enoch walked with God and he was not for God took him.” According to Genesis 5: 22,23,24.

Three hundred years is a long time to walk with God, but God and Enoch must have had a glorious time together, because their relationship was so intimate that Enoch was the first person to be raptured. (or caught away). One day God and Enoch were so involved in each others company, that suddenly Enoch was not, for God took him.

God gives special favors and privileges and honors to those who will choose to walk with him, to deny self, and to forsake places, and things, and companions that are not pleasing to God.

“Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Noah was a just man and perfect in all his generations, and Noah walked with God.” Genesis 6: 8, 9.

Noah was given the honor of preserving life on planet earth during the flood. To walk with God, we must agree with God in all points.

“Can two walk together except they be agreed?” He that would walk with God must believe and agree that he is, and that he is a rewarder of all those who diligently seek him. Without faith it is impossible to please God. To walk with God, we must agree with God when he says: “there is none righteous, no, not one.” Romans 3: 10. And, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3: 23. And, “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”Romans 6: 23 . To walk with God we must agree with God that these words apply to us, and declare with Paul, that we are chief among sinners, but the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.

To walk with God, we must agree with God that our standing with him does not come as a result of our good works, or our own righteousness, but “By grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2: 8,9

God made people in his own image to walk with him. This is our calling as the ultimate creation of God.

“Whosoever will may come.” Jesus said. “All who come to me I will in no wise cast out. “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.” Micah 6: 8.

“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.” 2 Chronicles 16: 9.

“He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.” Job 28: 10.

“The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord's throne is in heaven; his eyes behold, his eyelids try the children of men.” Psalm 11: 4.

“Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.”Psalm 33: 18, 19

“The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.” 1 Peter 3: 12.

Beware, we are under constant surveillance. We are constantly being watched. Shakespeare said: “All the world is a stage and men and women merely players.” What he should have said is that men and women are like microbes under God's microscope, although God does not need a microscope to see all the hidden things of man’s heart, his eyes are sufficient. We are being watched by the Lord, and all the host of heaven, to see what our choices will be in any given situation. The Lord's eyes are searching for the person who will choose to walk humbly with him and honor him. God does not overlook anything that he finds to be precious in his sight. God is ready and pleased to reward righteousness, and faithfulness when he finds it.

My fellow Christian, if you have been saved by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, won't you come out of hiding, as it were, and make yourself known to the world as a Christian, hating sin as God hates sin, but loving the sinner as God loves sinners. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, and glorify God. Fellow Christian, God gives you a free will to choose good or evil, life or death.

This old world in which we live is on its' last legs. Sin and corruption and wickedness prevail everywhere, and even our own beloved country is ripe for the judgment of God. We, who are called the children of God , must choose to walk with God moment by moment, and day by day, and put on the uniform of the redeemed child of God. As a good soldier of Jesus Christ, we must not become so entangled with the things of this life that we would be handicapped in the army of the Lord . If you have tasted and seen that the Lord is good and merciful, and that he has raised you up out of the miry pit, how can you not with gratitude, present yourselves a living sacrifice to God which is your reasonable service, that you might walk with him, and that you might be an instrument in his hand; so that he might work a good work in you and through you as he did with Enoch and Noah, and all the other saints down through the ages who chose to walk with God.

The bible teaches that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming again, and when he comes, he will have with him crowns and rewards for those who were willing to choose to obey him, to hear his call, and go forth to battle for his glory.

Fellow Christian, right now as you read this message, you are of necessity making a choice. What will it be?

Tonight as this old year of 2022 dies . and as the new year if 2023 is born, would be a great time to make the right choice.

Should you be one who may be reading this, and you have never really considered your future and eternal destiny, and you have not yet believed and accepted the LORD JESUS CHRIST as your personal Lord and savior, as the new year is born,I pray that you may also be"born again"

into the family of God.

May God bless each and every one of you who read this and. Have a happy New Year!

What shall I Render Unto The Lord? vvvv

What Shall We Render Unto The Lord?

 By: Robert A. Searles

“What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me” Psalm 116: 12.

How could we ever hope to repay God for his mercy; his love; his salvation and every good thing which he has given to us? When we count our blessings instead of our problems, we are made aware of the fact that the goodness and mercy of God out weighs all our difficulties. God is ever ready to hear and answer the faintest supplication when we call upon him in truth. He is an ever present help in the time of trouble., He is ready and willing, and able to forgive all our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The only thing that we can render to God that will be acceptable unto him is a contrite broken spirit, a heart filled with gratitude and praise, and complete trust in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We ought to daily and momentarily offer our bodies to the Lord which is our reasonable service, and take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord, and pay our vows unto the Lord in the presence of all his people, and offer to him the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call upon the name of the Lord” Psalm 116: 12-17.

“Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”

Happy New Year!

 Thought for Today - December 29, 2022

Happy New Year!

By: Robert A. Searles

Soon,  in three more days,  we will br launching out into  another new year and new beginning in our lives.  We do not know what lies ahead nor what this  new year may have in store for us, but he who knows all things and holds the future does, and we need to begin  by seeking his counsel.
Anyone who is planning to go on a journey is very wise if he or she makes preparation in advance.  If he or she is going to be traveling by automobile, one is smart if he has his engine tuned up and the oil changed, and the fuel tank full.  A prudent  person will know where he is going, and how he is going to get there.  He will have acquired road maps, and will have studied them diligently.
So it is with our journey through life, every new day we strike out on a new adventure, not knowing what a day will bring forth.  The sad thing with some of us is that when it comes to our daily trip through the activities and duties of each new day, we have failed to make adequate preparations.
We who know the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior, need not venture out blindly into a wicked hostile world without being  fortified and strengthened for our journey.  We have an open door to God our Father, who, if we ask anything in the name of his son, will deny us nothing that is good for us. Before we begin our day, we can rise up a great while before  day and find a solitary place and get alone with God and pray, even as Jesus himself was known to do.
“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out and departed into a solitary place , and there prayed.” Mark 1:35
If this was necessary for the very divine son of God to do, how much more is it necessary for us to  start our day?  How can we know the direction we should travel if we do not seek  the guidance of one who knows?
“Cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning, for in thee do I trust, cause me to know the way wherein I should walk, for I lift up my soul unto thee.  Deliver me, O Lord from mine enemies,  I flee unto thee to hide me, teach me to do thy will, fo thou art my God, thy spirit is good.  Lead me into  the land of uprightness.” Psalm 143: 8-10

Righteous? - Wicked?

 Thought for Today - December 28, 2022

Righteous? - or – Wicked?

By: Robert A Searles

“Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him. As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.” Isaiah 3: 10-12

Is this not true today in the world, and in our country, and in our homes, that children are our oppressors, and that women have the rule over us?

This was never intended by God to be so. God's plan for a happy and harmonious life is for children to be in subjection to their parents, and to be brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and for wives and unmarried daughters to lovingly follow the leadership of godly husbands or fathers.

The situation in many of our homes, and in our country today is, I believe, partially the judgment of God on those who have wickedly fallen away from him. Verse 16 to the conclusion of Isaiah chapter 3 describes the revealing haughty attire, and attitude of many women in the world at the time it was written, but it is also descriptive of many today.

Instead of being loving wives, mothers, and sweethearts, they are in many cases, scheming, arrogant, and boldly aggressive.

“Moreover the Lord saith, because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, Walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet: therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts. In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon, the chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers, the bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings, the rings and the nose jewels, the changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins, the glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vales, and it shall come to psss, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; instead of a girdle, a rent; and instead of well set hair, baldness, and instead of a stomacher, a girdling of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty. Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war, and her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.” Isaiah 3: 16-26.

Could this be a warning for us today as well as it was in Isaiah's day?

 Once I Was Blind!

 By Robert A. Searles

Once I was blind, but now I see. From the moment of my physical birth until the moment of my rebirth as a child of God, my spiritual eyes and understanding were afflicted with blindness. This is true of all people whether or not they will acknowledge this truth.

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of God” for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” I Corinthians 2: 14.

Jesus said: “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3: 3.

Unfortunately, there are certain religious leaders today occupying pulpits and teaching and preaching some form of religion who are blind leaders of the blind.

Jesus said: “Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted shall be rooted up. Let them alone, they be blind leaders of the blind, and if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.” Matthew 15: 13,14.

These blind leaders have never truly been born again and experienced a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; therefore, they teach the doctrines of men, a social gospel of good works, good deeds, the keeping of rules and commandments . More emphasis placed on tolerance and love, and at the same time neglecting to teach the penalty of not being forgiven and pardoned by God and having a personal relationship with Christ.

Praise God! Christ is willing and able to open the blind eyes of all those who will come to him and ask to receive their sight. In asking we must believe that he is, in fact, the divine son of God, and is the only way, the truth, and the light. We must believe that he is the propitiation for our sins: he paid the price of our redemption, and we are forever saved by his grace. We must believe that he arose from the dead and ascended into heaven, and is now our great high priest who makes intercession for us before the throne of God. We must believe that if we will confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When we receive all this truth by faith as a free gift of God's grace, we are miraculously born again, and then and only then can we see spiritual things.

We must have the confidence that Jesus can and will do all this for us, and as we believe, Jesus said, it shall be done unto us. “And when Jesus departed thence two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, thou son of David, have mercy on us. And while he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, according to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened, and Jesus straitly charged them, see that no man know it.” Matthew 9: 27-30.

In this case Jesus gave physical sight to physical eyes, and at this time he was not yet ready for it to be known abroad. Today Jesus will give spiritual sight to spiritual eyes and he wants all those who have received spiritual eyesight to go into all the world and preach the gospel.

Cry Unto the Lord!

Thought for Today - December 26, 2022
Cry Unto The Lord!
By: Robert  A. Searles

“Unto thee will I cry, O Lord my rock; be not silent to me; lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.  Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.  Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbors, but mischief is in their hearts.  Give them according to their deeds and according to the wickedness of  their endeavors: give them  after the work of their hands; render to them their desert.  Because they regard not the works of the Lord, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.  Blessed be the Lord, because he hath heard the voice of my  supplications  The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth, and with my song will I praise him.,   The Lord is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.  Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.”  Psalm 28: 1- 9

Have you noticed a small child when he wants something?  What does he do? He cries and throws a tantrum to his parents or to those who are in charge of him until he gets their attention and makes them become aware of his desires.  Sometimes he gets what he cries for and sometimes he doesn't; but the point is, he makes them become aware of his  desires.

God wants his children to cry unto him with hope and enthusiasm for the things that we need and desire.  We are to approach God as dear children.  The bible tells us that except we come as little children, we cannot approach God.

Sometimes small children cry and throw tantrums and nag their parents for things that are good and right for them, and sometimes they nag for things which are wrong and bad for them.  It is up to the parent to decide what is best for the children, but the point of all this is that the small child has enough knowledge and faith and confidence in his parents to believe that his parents love him enough so that they will not ignore his crying and nagging.

God honors our faith and confidence in him as a parent and he wants us to cry unto him and nag him, as it were, for  the things  that  we need and desire,, and as a wise God and father, he never ignores us but gives us those things which he knows are good and right for us.

If we want to be built up and prosper, we must regard the works of the Lord and realize that  the universe is his.  He made it, and he has a perfect right to control it

A parent gives a child protection when that child puts his faith and confidence in the tender mercies of his parents.  Likewise, God shields us and protects us when we come running and crying to him as a child.

Jesus, in the garden, cried and cried to God in such agony that he sweat great drops of blood.  Jesus told the story of the man who was asleep with his family, and his neighbor came pounding on his door and nagging him.  He had to open the door because of his constant nagging.  Jesus likened this to God answering us if we are consistent and constant in prayer.  God answers those who believe  in him enough to keep pounding at his door and crying unto him like dear children.

“And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh; and Moses cried unto the Lord because of the frogs  which he had brought against Pharaoh.” Exodus 8: 12

“And the people murmured against Moses, saying, what shall we drink?   And he (Moses) cried unto the Lord; and the Lord shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a  statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them.,”Exodus 15: 24, 25

“In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his heart.  Then the earth shook and trembled;  the  foundations of heaven moved and shook because he was wroth.” 2 Samuel 22: 7,8

“The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”  Psalm 34: 17

“And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;....Exodus 3: 7

Egypt is a type of the world in which we  live, surrounded by sin and corruption.  As God heard the cry of the children of Israel while they were in Egypt and delivered them, so he will hear our cry from our surroundings and deliver us.

“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli,. Lama sabachthani ?  That is to say, my God,  my God,  Why hast thou forsaken me?”  Matthew 27: 46

Jesus  thought it to be effective to cry aloud with a loud voice to God.  In the coming kingdom of God there will be no more need for  crying and nagging because our inheritance will be in our hands, and we will be in the presence of God.

“And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people; and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.” Isaiah 65: 19

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away.” Revelations 21:4

While we are  still here on earth, waiting for the return of the Lord, and waiting for his kingdom to come, what a privilege we have to come crying to God as his dear children.

Something Wonderful happened

 Thought for Today - December 25, 2022

Something Wonderful Happened!

By: Robert A. Searles

This is a delayed posting, meant to be posted yesterday on Christmas day.

A special thought for Christmas day, for all those who may not know or care what Christmas is all about.

Something wonderful happened last night while we all slept.  No, Santa Clause did not come. There was no jingling of bells: no prancing of reindeer on my roof : no fat little man in a red suit  offering  a "one night stand" if you will of  ,false hope for a sick and dying world.

Tomorrow, after a brief time of conjured up joy; after the food is consumed; after the pretty :gift wrapping is cast into the trash: after family and friends have offered  their final happy holiday wishes  and departed to go thir own way, the house will be empty again; the much anticipated holiday will be over.

For many who have no real hope except that which this sick and dying world has to offer, will find themselves in a state of depression and despair.  Back to the same old routine of self preservation: forgetting the magical time of love and miracles which they have just been celebrating.

Last night while we all slept ( last night over two thousand years ago), an event did occur that would shake the earth and change the course of history forever.

Suddenly, without warning, the heavens were ablaze over the shepherd's field with  multitudes of  heavenly messengers, the angels, announcing God's offering of peace and forgiveness  to all mankind.

"And there were in the same country, shepherds abiding in the field keeping watch over their flock by night, and lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them and they were sore afraid.  And the angel said unto them, fear not for behold I bring you glad tidings of great joy  which shal be to all people, for unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior which is Christ the Lord." Luke 2: 9-11

Yes! something wonderful did happen last night, two thousand years ago, " God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever will believe in him shall have everlasting life."  My! what a wonderful gift to awaken to today on Christmas morning.!  This gift from God has been offered to all men, women, boys, and girls of all races, creeds, or colors.  The scriptures remind each of us that as many as have received him, the babe in the manger, the LORD JESUS CHRIST, he gave the power to become  the redeemed children of God.

If you have not already done so, I hope and pray that   all my readers and  friends, will by faith, open and receive , and accept this gift from our heavenly father with heart felt gratitude before beginning to enjoy all the other joys of the day.

Thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift to all who will receive it.

Have a merry Christmas and a God   blessed new year.  Amen!

Come, Worship the Lord With Me

Thought For Today - May 31, 2023
Come, Worship The Lord With Me
By Robert A. Searles

Come, worship the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.  Worshipping the Lord ought to be our first order of business each and  every day.  Let us begin our day by reverencing, adoring, loving, and admiring him with our whole heart.  Let us be grateful for his loving kindness and tender mercies that he bestows upon us momentarily.

"Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness." 1Chronicles 16: 29.
"O come let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord our maker." Psalm 95: .

True worship of the Lord is not to be found in rituals or ceremonies, but is an act of the will, and the heart.  We must worship in spirit and in truth.  True worship of our Lord is to reverence, adore, love, and admire, and be grateful from the depths of our  heart.

"God is spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4: 24  Before we can expect God to answer our prayers, we must first worship him.

"While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and  worshipped him saying, my daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her and she shall live.  And Jesus arose and followed him, and so did his disciples."  Matthew 9: 18, 19.   This man, before he asked Jesus to raise his daughter, came and worshipped him.

"And behold, a woman which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve  years, came behind him,  and touched the hem of his garment: for she said within herself, if I may but touch his garment I shall be whole." Mathew 9: 20, 22
.
The very thought that this woman had in her mind that if she could just touch his garment she would be healed was  an act of  worship in her spirit.  Jesus rewarded her for her faith.

"But Jesus turned him about and when he saw her he said: daughter, be of good comfort, thy faith hath made thee whole, and the woman was made whole from that hour." Matthew 9: 22.

Bread in the Wilderness

 Thought for Today - December 23, 2022
Bread In The Wilderness
By Robert A. Searles

After the children of Israel had left Egypt under the leadership of Moses, they wandered in the wilderness for forty years because of their unbelief and disobedience, whereas, if they had believed and obeyed God, they could have immediately inherited the promised land.  Nevertheless, God in his compassion and mercy provided for their needs in the wilderness.

He fed them by sending down manna from heaven, and they were told to  gather a certain portion for themselves for each and every day.  It could not be hoarded nor stored up.  If they tried to store up so they would not have to gather every day, they would find it spoiled and stinking.

Likewise, God in his grace and compassion, has provided for us, manna, as it were, while we are wandering about in the wilderness of this world from the cradle to the grave.  The lord Jesus Christ is the heavenly bread which has been sent down from heaven to be our food and nourishment for each and every day.   We are told if we will meet with him before  the day begins, and eat his flesh and drink his blood by praying and meditation on his  word, that we  will have the nourishment we need to see us through the  day.  Abiding in him gives us eternal everlasting  life.  The more we gaze upon him, the more we become like him.  Look upon his holiness, his kindness, his confidence in God the Father.  Look upon his willingness to have the Father's will accomplished in his life.  Look upon his power in heaven and earth, look upon his  health.  Look upon him as our source, our beginning.  God's storehouse is brimming over with all that we will ever have need of, and he invites us to come and gather all that we want  or need today.

“Then said they unto him, what shall we do, that we might work the works of God?  Jesus answered and said unto them, this is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.  They said, therefore unto him, what sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee?  What dost thou work?  Our fathers did eat manna in the  desert; as it  is written, he gave  them bread from heaven to eat.  Then Jesus said unto them, verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.  For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven and giveth life unto the world.  Then said they unto him, Lord evermore give us this bread.  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” John 6: 28-35

Today - A Gift From God

Thought For Today -  December 22, 2022
Today -  A Gift From God
By: Robert A. Searles

Each day in our lives is a brand new gift from God. There has never been a day exactly like it before, and there will never be a day exactly like it again. It is unique in itself. As someone has aptly said: "This is a brand new day without mistakes, yet." Pray to God that we can keep it without mistakes.

"This is the day that the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."

Let us not ruin today by borrowing from tomorrow's sorrows, or remembering the mistakes of yesterday. If we at all remember, let us remember the joys and the happiness, and the good things, and let us throw out with the trash, as it were, the negative and bad things.

Let us spend this day, this valuable gift that God has given to us, always aware of his presence and companionship. A day spent in companionship with the Lord is better than a thousand without him.
If we have received Christ as our Savior, then today we have eternal everlasting life, and have passed from darkness into light and we don't have to look for tomorrow to come to receive it and enjoy it

Our Riches t Christ's Expense

Thought for Today - December 21, 2022
Our Riches At Christ's Expense
By: Robert A. Searles

“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.”  2 Corinthians 8: 9

I wonder if we who call ourselves Christians have ever really contemplated the abundance of the love and grace of our wonderful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who was infinitely rich and abounding in  all that he had created; he who had an inexhaustible supply of grace; and inexhaustible supply of love; and inexhaustible fellowship with God the Father, should put it all aside for awhile, and become the poorest of the poor for our sake, so that he would not  enjoy all the beauty and splendor and wonders of heaven without us.  He had no place on earth to lay his head so that we might have mansions in our father's house forevermore.  He became sin for us so that our sins could be forgiven.  He was separated from God the Father for a season so that we could be reconciled to God our father.forever.  He allowed himself to feel pain, suffer hunger, and experience death, so that we might experience the joy and the goodness of our Father's house. Oh! Let us consider the abundant riches of his grace in that he hath done all this for us, and let us be eternally grateful.

As we celebrate Christmas, and think and sing of the cute little babe in the manger, my we think on these things and be extremely grateful.

Positive Thinking

Thought for Today - December 20. 2022
Positive Thinking
By: Robert A. Searles
Do you want to have a positive attitude and outlook on life? Keep your mind constantly, consciously fixed upon God.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Isaiah 26: 3.

All the day long, think upon God; think of how holy God is; think of how just God is; think of how merciful and forgiving God is; think always of the love of God, and how he expressed that love by his sacrifice for us. Think of how mighty and powerful God is. Think of how wise God is, and how wealthy he is.

The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof. Think of how healthy God is; think of him who is full of life. He is the creator of all life. Think of how eternal God is, he is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the alpha and omega. And then think this one solemn thought: God wants us to become as he is. He wants us to be conformed to the image of his son. If we think in this way we will be thinking positively even as God thinks. Therefore, if you want to be positive in thoughts and attitudes, and grow to become like he is,  think always on the lord.

Why Do the Heathen Rage?

 Thought for Today - December 19, 2022

Why Do The Heathen Rage?
By: Robert a. Searles

"Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him." Psalm 2

In spite of present day conditions and circumstances which seemingly contradict the teaching of the word of God, and in spite of the fact that the heathen do rule and reign, and the kings of the earth set themselves against the Lord and his anointed, God in heaven laughs, for a season, at the ignorance and stupidity of sinful, heathen human beings when they think they know more than God.

Then when he has them in derision and he has had a good laugh, so to speak, let the heathen and all the kings of the earth beware, for God has declared that he will rise up in his wrath and sore displeasure, and with absolute authority declare the decree that he has set his son, the Lord Jesus Christ on the throne of the universe to rule and to reign forever over all the kingdoms of the earth.

All those who remain heathen and reject Christ will be cast down and dashed in pieces like a potter's vessel. Therefore those who are wise will kiss the son and honor him lest they perish from the way

Absolute Truth for All Geenerations

Thought for Today - July 10, 2023

 Absolute Truth for all Generations

 By: Robert A. Searles

“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” Psalm 100: 1-5

One generation after another cannot come along and rightly say that the things of God which were true for our forefathers are no longer true for us today. God never changes, he is the same yesterday, today and forever. His law and his power is immutable. The principles which God gave to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And his people, Israel, and the principles which Jesus taught are as relevant for us today as they were when he taught them. People are at fault and in gross error when they adopt the attitude of permissiveness, and situation ethics which is so prevalent in the world today. God changes not, and he expects his children not to be given to change as far as believing his truth and acting upon it is concerned. Just because God has allowed us to have technological improvements to make us more comfortable and more effective in serving him; and because he has allowed us to put aside the horse and mule, as it were and given us automobiles, planes, and computers instead, in no way implies that God has made of truth something different from what it always was and still is from everlasting to everlasting. We would all do well to abolish the idea of being “politically correct” and adhere to the teaching, and being obedient to the absolute truth of the word of God. God is steadfast and unmovable. Let us pray that he will keep us rooted and grounded in love and in truth, and stand our ground against the lies and wiles of the devil.

Plead My Cause!

Thought For Today –  December 16, 2022
Plead My Cause!
By: Robert A. Searles

When we are “born again” into the family of God and become Christians, we begin to face enemies that we have never had to face before. Our battles are not necessarily against flesh and blood enemies, but we strive against spiritual forces in high places.

When we become Christians we immediately enter a spiritual combat zone, and are confronted by an unseen army of combatants whose commander in chief is Satan.

We must constantly draw from God our Father, through our Savior Jesus Christ, the reinforcements we need to face and defeat our foes. We must constantly be on the alert and walk circumspectly, always watching lest our enemies take us unawares, and we become led astray and deceived, and fall into Satan's traps and be defeated.

Being constant in praise and prayer, and in fellowship with our Lord, we can be assured of safety and security from all the affronts of the enemy. Christ will plead our cause, and help us. He will confound our enemies, and put them to shame. They will be like chaff before the wind and be blown away. When we stay close to him we will be joyful and rejoice in our salvation.

“Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.” Psalm 35: 1, 2.

“Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord Chase them.” Psalm 35: 5.

“And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation.” Psalm 35: 9.

Remembering Joanne Greenlaw Searles

Thought For Today - December 14, 2022
Remembering! Joanne Greenlaw Searles  -  March 4, 1934 - December 14, 2018

 By: Robert A. Searles
I am re-posting this annual remembrance  today in loving memory of my best friend; my helpmate; my partner; and beloved wife for sixty six years - Joanne Greenlaw Searles

It seems that only yesterday we were making  preparations for the celebration  of our Lord's birth at Christmas- trimming the tree; wrapping gifts; mailing cards - together, Today  Joanne is safe in the arms of Jesus, face to face with her Savior.  All of us who know and have accepted Christ as Savior will soon  join them.

Four  years ago today, on December 14, 2018, at approximately 9:05 AM, I had to say goodby to the dearest on earth to me.  On that day, and even now sometimes I, in my own  heart have asked the question as the song writer - Frank E. Graffe  has so beautifully written - "Does Jesus care when I've said goodby to the dearest on earth to me?"

"Does Jesus care when my heart is pained too deeply for mirth and song  As the burdens press, and the cares distress, and the way grows weary and long?  Does Jesus care when my way is dark with a nameless dread and fear?  As the daylight fades into deep night shades, does he care enough to be near?  Does Jesus care when I've tried and failed  to resist some temptation strong, when for my deep grief, I find no relief, though my tears flow all the night long?  Does Jesus care when I've said goodby to the dearest on earth to me, and my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks - is it aught to him, does he see?" - Frank E. Graffe

Then the answer comes flowing back as the fresh breath of spring - " Oh yes he cares; I know he cares.  his heart is touched  with my grief.  When the days are weary, the long nights dreary, I know my Savior cares" - Franke E. Graffe

She, being afflicted with that horrible disease known as dementia, daily, and constantly had a longing and craving to "go home",whether it was for the home she had known as a child on earth, or if it was for her eternal home that was prepared and promised to her in heaven by our Lord Jesus Christ, only the Lord knows.

Because of the severity, and super aggressiveness related to her condition, no nursing home  could be found that would accept her for long term care, but Jesus cared, and he mercifully called her home to her mansion in heaven that he had been preparing for her

Jesus said:  " Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.  In my Father's house are many mansions.  If it were not so I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am  there you may be also." John 14: 1,2,3

Joanne believed this promise, and spent much of her lifetime teaching this, and the rest of God's word to children and others.

So, four  years ago, Jesus kept his promise, and took her home to heaven to live with him forever.  There he healed her.  No more dementia;  no more pain; no more longing to go home.  She is now at home rejoicing around the throne of God.

My comforting thought and hope is that .... I know that Jesus is alive and cares.  And Joanne and I will meet again one day in heaven.  When I see her again, I believe she will be young again and beautiful, and have a brand new glorified body, and be like Jesus with perfect youth, health, and knowledge and eternal life.

What a blessed hope that Jesus has offered to all who will believe him, and confess our sins, ask for his forgiveness, and accept him as Savior and Lord.. I pray that whoever reads this memorial for Joanne has accepted Christ as Savior and has the blessed hope of reunion when you have to say goodby to the dearest on earth to you.

Good night! Sweetheart! I'll see you in the morning.  Together we will worship around the Throne of God, and together with Jesus we will stroll around heaven forever.

One Comforting Thought

One Comforting Thought For Today - December 13, 2022
He Lives (Jesus) - So She Lives!
By: Robert A. Searles

In memory of my beloved wife of sixty six years - Joanne

She is not dead, but is very much alive and finally at home  with Jesus where she so much wanted to be. No more dementia; no more knee problems;  no more stomach problems; no more cares, worries or problems of any kind . She is young again enjoying the bliss and splendors of Heaven - while waiting to receive her brand new glorified, resurrected body - and waiting for me and her children and grand children  to join her which was her lifelong prayer that the family circle in Heaven would be unbroken.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16.  She believed in him -  so was her confession to God, to me, and to many others to whom she presented the gospel and tried to persuade to believe.and to be saved.  We can therefore know that she lives and is safe in the arms of Jesus.

"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of  God, an house  not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.  For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which  is from heaven.  If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.  For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of  life.  Now he hat hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also  hath given unto us the earnest  of the Spirit.  Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (for we walk  by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labor, that, whether present or absent,we maybe accepted of him.  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ : that every one may receive the things done in his body,, according to that he hath done , whether it be good  or bad." . 2 Corinthians 5:1-10.

Dear reader - do you have this assurance?
