Why Do the Heathen Rage?

Thought for Today - April 29
Why Do The Heathen Rage?  -  By: Robert A  Searles

"Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?   The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,   Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.   He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.  Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.   Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him."  Psalm 2 (KJV) Bible

In spite of present day conditions and circumstances which seemingly  contradict the teaching of the word of God, and in spite of the fact that the heathen do rule and  reign, and the kings of the earth set themselves against the Lord and his anointed, God in heaven laughs, for a season, at the ignorance and stupidity of sinful, heathen human beings when they think they know more than God. Then when he has them in derision and he has had a good laugh, so to speak, let the heathen and all the kings of the earth beware, for God has declared that he will rise up in his wrath and sore displeasure, and with absolute authority declare the decree that he has set his son, the Lord Jesus Christ  on the throne of the universe to rule and to reign forever over all the kingdoms of the earth.
All those who remain heathen and reject Christ will be cast down and dashed in pieces like a potter's vessel.  Therefore those who are wise will  kiss the son and honor him lest they perish from  the way, when the anger of God is kindled but a little.  All who put their trust in him will be  blessed.

Take heed! Thus sayeth the Lord!

Strength From the Lord

 Thought for Today - April 28, 2022

Strength From The Lord   -  By: Robert A.Searles

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.;....” Ephesians 6: 10-18

Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Be a true believer. Put on the whole armor of God. Take the confidence you have in the word of God, and hold it up in front of you whenever you are deluged with doubts and fears, and attacks thrown at you by Satan. Claim your salvation, always see Christ on the cross, bleeding and dying, but remember his resurrection on the third day, and realize that the price of your redemption is paid in full. The cross is empty and the tomb is empty. Therefore, it is impossible for you to be mortally wounded and destroyed if you have on the helmet of salvation. Let us fight a good fight as soldiers of Christ. Let us pick up our weapons and march  off to war in the army of our Lord Jesus Christ. The word of God is the weapon of our warfare.

Expect Great Things From God!

Thought For Today - May 30, 2023

Expect Great Things From God

 By: Robert A. Searles

"I am the Lord thy God which brought thee out of the Land of Egypt. Open thy mouth wide and I will fill it." Psalm 81:10

Those of us who are saved and know Christ as our personal Savior Can expect to receive great things from God our Father. God delivered his people,Israel, from the slavery and bondage of Egypt, and this is a type and picture for us today of how we through the sacrifice of Christ on the cross are wonderfully delivered from the bondage and slavery of sin, and are given the assurance of God's blessings and provision for us. God tells all of his children simply to have faith, believe, and open wide our mouths and he will fill them.

When we purchase something of great value, usually we take good care of it, we keep it polished and protected and preserved.Likewise a great and terrible prices was paid for our salvation, the blood of the only begotten son of God. As the redeemed children of God, we are in God's sight of great value to him as his offspring and servants. Therefore, God has promised to fill our mouths with good things, and keep us eternally for his glory, so, by faith let us open our mouths wide and expect God to fill us abundantly with great things- the assurance of God's blessings and provision for us, including a mouthful of praise and worship to share with the world.

Grace to All!

Thought for Today - April 24

Grace To All!   -  By: Robert A. Searles

“Grace be to you, and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 1: 2.

Grace, the unmerited favor of God, which God gives to those whom he chooses. Thank G,od, he has chosen me to be a recipient of his grace. God has poured out his riches upon me at Christ's expense. For he paid it all for me on Calvary's cross

. “He was wounded for my transgression, he was bruised for my iniquities, the chastisement of my peace was upon him, and with his stripes I am healed.” Isaiah 53.

“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will. To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.” Ephesians 1: 4-7

Friend, do you have the peace of God? The peace of God comes as the result of - “redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself; that in the dispensation of the fullness of time he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth, even in him: In whom we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: that we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.” Ephesians 1: 7-12

Friend, if you are reading these lines, if you have heard the gospel message, you have also been chosen of God to be a recipient of his grace, to stand blameless before God, redeemed by his blood. Salvation is free to all who will believe and receive.

Safe And Secure

Thought for Today - April 23

Safe And Secure!  -   By: Robert A. Searles

Christian, do you have a sense of safety and security that accompanies you at all times wherever you are or whatever you are doing? If you are a Christian, a child of God, having been born again into the family of God by placing your faith and trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, you can have this sense of security because the Lord is your shepherd, and you are the sheep of his pasture. If you will believe it, you can go through the day, and lay your head on your pillow at night with the full assurance that - “goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life; and that you will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23 ; Once saved, then forever sealed and kept by the Holy Spirit so that you need never again fear being lost and separated from God, although at times, because of disobedience, you may be out of God's fellowship because of disregard for God's word. We like sheep sometimes wander from the fold, but the faithful shepherd will leave the ninety and nine and go after the wandering and wayward sheep to return him to the security of the fold. You need not be fearful of the prosecuting attorney, your accuser before the throne of God (Satan, the devil), for you are passed from death unto life, and though guilty of sin, you are blameless because -”there is therefore now no condemnation to them that be in Christ Jesus.” Your judgment is past. The penalty for your sins and mine having been paid by Christ our Lord. Child of God – redeemed of the Lord – joint heir of Christ, you and I can declare;" I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23

Have a Good Forever!

Thought for Today -  July 26, 2023

Have A Good Forever

 By: Robert A. Searles
Dear Reader:
A wise person is one who makes preparation for the future.  Have you thought about your future?  You CAN have an abundant life and a “good forever” if you WILL, it's all up to you.  The right to choose has been given to you by a loving heavenly Father who, being rich, became poor that you might become rich.  What will your future be like?
If you knew that you had only a few more hours to live and at this time tomorrow you would be somewhere in eternity, wouldn't you want to know that you were “right” with God?  Wouldn't you want to have truth and justice on your side?
We all must die sooner or later.  Some will die today.  It could be your time today.  If you were to die today, do you know for sure where you will spend eternity?
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27), where will you stand at the last judgment of God?  “Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” (Proverbs 27: 1.
An important man in the eyes of the world once asked, “What is truth?”  Unfortunately, he did not wait for the answer.  God is true, and the Word of God is truth.  We are surrounded by darkness and uncertainties, but the light from heaven shines
forth the truth of God to give us  light to  dispel the darkness and bring us good news and hope.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginniung with God All things were made  by him: and without him was not any thing made that was made.  In him was life: and the life was the light of men.  And the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not.” (John 1: 1-5)
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, ( and we beheld his glory, the glory as of  the only begotten of the Father),
full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)
“He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (John 1: 10-12.
The “Word made flesh” is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten, divine son of God, who is one with the Father.  He came into the world to reveal to us the Father and to lay down his  life for the sins of all mankind.  The Word of God says that all people are sinners from birth, and are separated from God.  If they remain in this condition, they will be forever separated from God and will go to hell.
“As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one: there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.” (Romans 3: 10,11)
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” ( Romans 3: 23.)
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6: 23)
The Word of God also tells us that whosoever will believe in his heart that Jesus Christ is the divine son of God (virgin born), and that he laid down his life on the cross and shed his blood to pay for the sins of individuals; whosoever  will believe that God hath raised him from the dead and that he ever liveth to  make intercession for us; whosoever will call upon the Lord Jesus Christ from his heart, repent, and turn away from sin and invite the Lord Jesus Christ to come live in his heart shall be saved.  He will be “born again” into the family  of God and will become a child of God.
Jesus said: “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” ( John 3: 3.)
The Philippian jailer asked, “What must I do to be saved?”  The answer: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” (Acts 16: 30,31)
“And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Acts 2: 21).“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).
“He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God.” (John 3: 18).
The one and only thing that can determine your destiny for all eternity is what you do with Jesus Christ, God's gift of love to you. The one and only thing that can seal your doom in hell is your rejection of the only begotten son of God.  God is not willing for you to spend eternity in hell apart from him.  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3: 16).
What will you do with Jesus Christ? He is the only one that has the power to save you and give you eternal life.  What would you do with him if you knew that this was your very last day on earth?  Salvation is by the grace of God alone, not by good deeds, nor good morals, nor by good intentions.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves:  it is the gift of God, not  of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2: 8, 9).
How can you be sure that you are saved?  Confess, and agree with God that you are a sinner by birth, and by choice, and that you fall far short of what God intended for you to be. Repent – be truly sorry for this fact and have a genuine desire in your heart to change the direction of your life and live for God.  Ask God's forgiveness, pray this simple prayer to God: - “God, be merciful to me a sinner, and save me for Christ's sake.”  Gratefully receive by faith God's pardon.  Appropriate to yourself  the atoning power of the cross and the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins. Trust God to do the rest.  What is the next step?
Tell someone that you have trusted in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation, it could be your wife, your husband, your children, your parents, your friends, or anyone.  Write to us and let us know.  We will rejoice with you.  The Word of God says: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with  the heart man believeth unto rigfhteousness: and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10: 9,10).
As a newborn child of God, you ought to seek the fellowship of other born again children of God, preferably in an independent ,fundamental, bible-teaching church, for the purpose of worship, study, and service.  Within the fellowship of a local church, you ought to follow the Lord in believer's baptism, by immersion, as a testimony of the death of the old person, and resurrection to newness of life in Christ: going down into the water in the likeness of Christ's death, and being raised up out of the water in the likeness of his resurrection.  You ought to attend services on a regular basis In order to grow In grace and knowledge of the word of God,  and be a regular partaker of the Lord's supper or communion as a memorial of what the Lord has done for you.  You ought to obtain a  copy of a good translation of the word of God, the bible, (I recommend the King James version), and read and study it daily and allow the Holy Spirit to instruct you and cause you to grow in the things of the Lord.

May God Bless you in your new Christian life.

Go About Doing Good

 Thought for Today - August 8, 2023
Go About Doing Good

  By: Robert A. Searles

As Christ our Lord went about doing good, we Christians ought  to be continuing the work and ministry of our Lord by going about doing good.  Christ was in the world offering salvation to all who would believe and receive him.  He gave rest to the weary and comforted the lonely; he healed the sick and raised the dead, and brought new hope to the hopeless.  We ought to continue doing all that God will give us the power to do so that Christ's work and ministry might continue through us.  God may not give us the power to heal the sick or raise the dead (he could if it was his purpose), but he has commissioned us to offer salvation to the lost through his name and to bear each other's  burdens, and to share each other's sorrows and joys, and to make life easier for those around us.  We ought to be so secure in our own salvation and the love of God that we can forget ourselves and concentrate on the needs of others.
“With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not o men; knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.” Ephesians 6: 7, 8
.  God will be no man's debtor, we cannot out give or out serve the Lord. When we go about doing good in the service of the Lord, we will find ourselves in a  combat zone with all the forces of the devil against us.  We must put on the armor and use all the defenses that God has provided for us.
Wherefore  take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the  evil  day, and having done all to stand.” Ephesians 6: 10-13

Danger Signals

Thought for Today - April 19
Danger Signals  -  By: Robert A. Searles
The human body is equipped with danger signals which serve to alert the senses when it is in trouble or in danger.  For example – If we have an infection or a disease in our bodies that could cause us to  be in danger, the nervous system sends signals to the brain, in the form of pain or discomfort, to warn us  that all is not right within.  When all is safe and secure within our bodies, as a rule, we are without pain or discomfort, and we are at peace within our bodies.
Likewise, our soul has danger signals which alert our senses to the fact when all is not well and healthy with our soul.  What are some of the symptoms of an unhealthy soul and spirit? The answer – Lack of peace, uneasiness, frustration, uneasy or uncomfortable when in the presence of sincere, enthusiastic servantsof God; uncomfortable when in the presence of those who are praising God, or testifying or praying.  If we  would prefer to think of more practical things, rather than to think of the spiritual; if we cannot  get interested in the things of the Lord; if we  get bored easily when spiritual matters are discussed; and if the talk of heaven seems morbid; and the fear of bad health or death is always present, then it is time, if  we profess to be Christians, to check up on the well being of our soul.  When we are afraid to pray or talk to God for fear of his condemnation, or afraid to speak the name of the lord Jesus Christ publicly, these  and many others are the danger signals of an unhealthy soul.  When we have any or all these symptoms we ought  to hasten to the great physician and lover of our souls, the Lord Jesus Christ, and seek healing, pardon and forgiveness, so that we might be found prospering and in good health.
Generally speaking, the characteristics of a healthy soul is to be always rejoicing in the Lord, offering continuous praise and thanksgiving to the Lord. A healthy soul is afraid of nothing, and is careful for nothing, but is trusting the Lord for all things.  The healthy soul is filled with the peace of God which passes all understanding.  Thoughts of heaven are a delight, and death is thought of as another stage of life.  If we  posses a healthy soul we can sing with the songwriter -  “It is well with my soul”, and we will love  to be with God's people.  We will love to talk to  God in prayer.  We will love to praise God. We will not be afraid of God's judgment because we know that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all guilt.  A healthy soul has an appetite for the things of God, we will like to eat the meat of the Word and feed upon the heavenly manna of God.
“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again  I say rejoice.  Let your moderation be known unto all men, the Lord is at hand.  Be careful for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God, and the peace of God, which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”
Philippians 4: 4-7.

Be Quiet and Listen

Thought for Today -  September 16. 2023

Be Quiet and Listen!

 By: Robert A. Searles

“The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.”  Ecc 9: 17
While God is speaking to us, are  we really listening, or is the clamor and noise of this sin cursed world drowning out the voice of our loving heavenly Father who is trying to tell us of his love and mercy for his children?  If we really want to know what God is  saying to us, moment by moment, we must cease from our own noise making, and listen intently to the still small voice of God.

We cheat ourselves of so much comfort and so many blessings when we  are so preoccupied with our own every day affairs, that we do not take the time to  get alone with God in our own secret hiding place and listen for the voice of God as he speaks to us by the various methods which he chooses.

How does God speak to us?  God speaks to us first of all by his written word, the Holy scriptures.  In them, God tells us how the heavens and the earth came into being.  He tells us how  he made man and woman, and all the animals and creeping things of the earth for the use  and benefit of mankind.  He tells us how he hates sin, but loves the sinner.  He tells us that we all have sinned and come short of his glory, but that he is willing to forgive and forget our sins.  He tells us how we may obtain that forgiveness and renewal of spirit and restoration of fellowship with himself.

In the written word, God also assures us that every word written in the scriptures are true and given by his Holy Spirit to his chosen prophets and historians who would be faithful men and women to record his words for all future generations to come.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
 righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16
“We have also a more sure  word of prophesy; where unto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto  a light that shinneth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your heart; knowing this first that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.  For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man; but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” 2 Peter 1:19- 21

In the Holy Scriptures, God relates to us the history of his chosen people, Israel, from Abraham down through the centuries to the present generations.  He speaks to us of the promises he has made to his chosen ones.  He show us all the trials and tribulations that his people have experienced because of their  sins and rebellion and turning their back on  him and worshiping idols. Through the history of his people Israel, he warns all of us of what can become of rebellious nations who  forget God and turn to idols; but he also reveals to us his great love and mercy when men and women repent and turn back to him.

In the written word, God is speaking to us to show us the way back from our sinfulness and rebellion  by receiving his son as the perfect sacrifice for our sin.  He tells us that: Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried and rose again the third day, according to the scriptures, and is now in heaven interceding for  all of us who will believe  and receive him, and we are promised that he is coming again to receive his children to himself and establish his kingdom on earth.
In the written word, God offers us comfort and rest when we are tired and weary, and peace when we have turmoil in our soul.

God also speaks to us through the living Word, the Lord Jesus Christ.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.,  In him was the life, and the life was  the light of men. And the light shinneth in the darkness, and the darkness  comprehended it not.” John 1: 1-5

God is spirit.  The bible says that no one has seen God at any time, but the son of God has revealed him. Christ  came into the world not only to die for the sins of  the world, but also to reveal God the Father to the world.   Jesus said:  “if you have seen me you have seen the Father. I and the Father  are one.”
God the Father, speaking through his son, the Lord  Jesus Christ, spoke to his disciples in the language of  men, in an audible voice which they could understand, and record his message to all mankind through the gospels.  Jesus, while on earth, spoke many words of wisdom and instruction to his apostles and disciples, to which we ought to listen intently and pay the most earnest heed.  Do we read and study the gospels and quietly listen to the words of Jesus, and make them a part of our very being as was intended by God?

God also speaks to us through his indwelling Holy Spirit in the heart and mind of every born again child of his. When Jesus ascended into heaven he promised, that when he went away, he would send another comforter, to be a constant companion, interpreter of the wordof God, instructor and guardian of   his redeemed,God has so much for us to know of him, so much to enjoy and be blessed by him.  God speaks in a still small voice, and in order to hear what he is saying, we must quietly listen.  We must stop our ears, at least for a little while from all the  noise of the world, and the noise within  our own soul.  Arise in the morning and behold the majesty of a gorgeous sunrise, and allow the sunrise of the love of God to arise in your own soul.  Stop and smell the fragrance of the rose, and enjoy the peace and tranquility of a beautiful sunset, and know that with  God all is well, and it is well with your soul.

Safe in the Arms of Jesus!

Thought For Today - April 17
Safe in the Arms of Jesus!
  -  By: Robert A Searles
Because I am a child of God; because I have been forgiven, and purchased by the precious blood of Christ from the realm of the evil one,  Satan, I can be sure that - "though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me, the Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever; forsake not the works of thine own hands." Psalm 138: 7, 8. The Lord will never forsake the works of his own hand, and those whom he has redeemed.

No one is beyond the sight and knowledge of God. No one can hide from God. No one can keep a secret from God. He knows everything we do, every thought we think, and every motive of our heart. We may be able to deceive our fellowman, but not so with God. He knows who has genuine faith and confidence in him, and who is a hypocrite. The knowledge of God is wonderful, beyond any human comprehension, but he is willing to impart his knowledge and wisdom to us if we will seek him and ask him for wisdom.

"O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my down sitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me." Psalm 139: 1-10.

Above Every Name

Thought for Today - September 20, 2023
Above Every Name

By: Robert A. Searles

Who is the person that is most talked about in the world today?  Everywhere you go, you cannot escape it, where ever you go today you will hear everyone from all walks of life talking about this person, yet they speak of him in blasphemous, and dishonoring terms, and use his name in vain, and drag his name through the mud, and trample his love gift under foot.  This person is the Lord Jesus Christ.

Yet, we Christians, who claim to be the born again, the  re-created children of God, shy away from talking directly about the Lord Jesus Christ.  In our daily conversation with other Christians, and the outside world, how often are we actually talking about the Lord Jesus Christ, and sharing with our friends how wonderful he is?  We talk about our church, and our pastors.  We talk about our Sunday school class.  We talk about all kinds of activities, and programs and service, but it seems to me that the person of the Lord Jesus Christ himself is terribly neglected.
Jesus never intended for us to separate the sacred from the secular.  He wants to be involved in everything we do.  Sometimes we tend to put the Lord Jesus Christ in a glass case and put him on the shelf and talk about things that pertain to him, but this is not his proper place.  He does not want to be an object of conversation only, he wants to be involved in it.
When we are sitting in our living rooms the name of the Lord Jesus Christ should be as common in our conversation as anyone else there.  He wants to be part of our family group,  He wants to be our guest for dinner every day.   Oh! How we ought to really love the Lord Jesus Christ after all he has done for us!  We ought to praise his name and exalt him in all our doings.
Even when we are eating an apple we can love Jesus because he made all things and sustains all things and freely gives us all things to enjoy.
So often the church, the activities, and the service programs in which we are involved take the place of our actual, personal relationship with the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.  All these programs are good and should not be neglected, but these should come about and be  the result of our deep love and gratitude, and personal relationship with the Lord, not as a substitute for it.    What a wonderful person the Lord Jesus Christ is! How he loves us and how we ought to love him in return!  “For God so loved the world that he gave  his only begotten son that whosoever  believeth on him should not perish but have everlalsting life.” John 3: 16.
God did not send the church to die for us. He did not send angels, he did not send pastors, he did not send activities and he did not ordain services to be the propitiation for our sins.  No, he sent the person of the Lord Jesus Christ to die for us and to be raised again for our justification.  He alone is worthy of our praise and worship.  He alone is the object of our love.  He ought to be the center of our life and conversation.
Don't  just say – I am happy, but rather say  - The Lord Jesus Christ  makes me happy.”  Don't just say: “this is a good day”, but rather say:  “The Lord has given us another beautiful day”.  Don't say: “I have a new dress, or a new car, or a beautiful house, or things”, but rather  say: “The Lord has showered me with all these blessings to enjoy.” Don't avoid calling him by name by just saying in a vague way, “Lord, “ “The Lord, “ or “God,” or “the man upstairs,”or “the creator”, or “the divinity”.  These are all proper names for him to be sure, but he wants to be known in a familiar way and known and proclaimed as the Lord Jesus Christ whom we know and love as our own personal Savior.
We sing, O, how I love Jesus, but many times he is grossly neglected and ignored from our conversation and activities, and from actual involvement in our lives.
None can proclaim, with honesty, The Lord Jesus Christ as his own personal Savior and Lord, and acquaintance, and object of love unless he has been born again.  Jesus said: “except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3: 3.  “Not everyone that  saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 7: 21.
And what is the will of our Father?  It is to love the Lord Jesus Christ with all our heart, all our
mind, and all our soul.  No man can  call Jesus Lord except he be led  and taught of the Holy Spirit.

Sing Unto the Lord!

Thought for Today - April 14
Sing Unto The Lord  -  By: Robert A. Searles
“O come let us sing unto the Lord: Let us make a joyful noise unto the rock of our salvation.  Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.  For the Lord is a great God, and great king above all gods.” Psalm 95: 1-3.
O Lord my God, my Savior, I want you to see my heart and know that as I read these inspired words of the psalmist, I agree wholeheartedly that I ought to indeed sing unto you, and make a joyful noise unto you, the rock of my salvation, because you have been so good to me, and blessed  me with so much.  Your own blood has paid  the price of my iniquity.  Thou hast forgiven all my sins from the foundation of the universe.  Thou has pulled my feet from the miry clay and set my feet upon a solid rock and by your grace, you have caused me to sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus     I want to come before your presence with singing and with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto you with psalms and songs of praise.
I confess with the psalmist that thou art the God of all gods, King of all kings, and Lord Of all lords.  All things are yours, for you have made all  things, and sustain all things.  You alone are worthy of my worship and praise. Therefore, I want to bow down and kneel before you, and worship you with my whole heart.  You are my God, and  I am a  sheep in your pasture.  Holy Spirit, lead me in the paths of  righteousness for Christ's sake, and give me peace in mind, body, and soul.

Wait on the Lord!

Thought for Today - April 13
Wait On The Lord  -  By: Robert A. Searles
“I had fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait on the Lord: be of good  courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27: 13, 14     Oh! the sloughs of despond that we as Christians so often  and so eaily fall into when  we are anxious for our lives, and have not the faith and  patience we need to be calm, and to wait on God.  Oh! how difficult it is to believe that which we cannot see and touch.  This is part of our old carnal nature, but the gift of God is faith.  Faith even  as the size of a grain of mustard seed to believe the promises of God's word, If we exercise it properly, will be as a light in a dark tunnel that will direct our thoughts and actions toward God,  and allow us to perceive the goodness and providence of God.
Believe God, trust his  word, stagger not at the promises of  God,  even as Abraham of old, believed God implicitly and God will not fail those who put their trust in him.   Believe to see the goodness of God in the land of the living, and you will not faint.  Many times throughout the scriptures we see that God does not seem to be in any hurry to do all that he has planned to do for our good     We honor  God when we determine in our heart to wait for the promise of God's infallible word.  If God has spoken, it shall be done as he has said.  Therefore, “wait on the lord, be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine  heart: wait I say on the Lord.” Psalm 27: 14                                         Telehelp  Publications Christian Literature Ministry

God Does Not Lie

Thought for Today - Apri l2

God Does Not Lie  -   By Robert A. Searles
Calling God a liar is a grievous and dangerous sin.  God has manifested his word in the person of his son the Lord Jesus Christ, and he has made known his word through  the printed  page and through the foolishness of preaching.  He has given us the prophets and the apostles.   More importantly, he has given us the witness of the Holy Spirit.
When  we worry we are doubting the word of God, which if we examine it carefully, we find gives us full assurance of God's love and care and protection for us.  Doubting the word of God is akin to calling God a liar.  This is a grievous sin and keeps us from enjoying the peace  and comfort and the entering in to God's rest that he has prepared for all who will believe.
Before we can enjoy the peace and rest of God, we must take the testimony of the prophets and the apostles, and the witness of the holy Spirit, and the teaching and example of our Lord and Savior, and allow the word of God to dwell in our hearts and be mixed with faith that God gives us to believe, and we need to encourage ourselves and others in the promise that God said it, I believe it, and that settles it forever.
“Let us therefore fear, lest a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.  For unto us was the gospel preached as well as unto them:  but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.  For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, as I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.,” Hebrews 4: 1-3.
"Take heed brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.  But exhort one another daily, while it is called today; lest any of you be burdened through the deceitfulness of sin.  For we are made partakers of Christ.  If we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end.  While it is said today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.” Hebrews 3: 12-15

Our Greatest Asset

Thought for Today - April 9
Our Greatest Asset  -  By Robert A. Searles
If you were asked what you considered to be your most valuable asset, no doubt you would look about you and think for a moment, then you would probably list your property, savings, home, health and family.  These are indeed, great assets to everyone, but wait, there  is something that made all these things possible, that something is  freedom – freedom to work, to accumulate savings; to build your home, and live happily with your family.  Without this freedom we would be denied the right to speak or write our thoughts and express our opinions on important issues of the day     Our freedom which was fought for by the early American colonist, and which men have fought and died to preserve is one of our most cherished heritages.  It is something which we must never  lose sight of, for if we do, then the nation  is doomed to totalitarianism like so many countries  of Europe.
We must grasp this freedom and keep hold of it like a mother might grasp a small infant to keep it from falling from her arms     When we are going about our  daily routine of living, we sometimes take freedom for granted and fail to see any possibility of losing it,; but remember, it could be suddenly taken from us as easily as a piece of candy could be taken from a small child; therefore, we must all join hands and work hard to preserve that freedom.  We must guard it with our lives, and if necessary , fight for  it.     How can we ever hope to preserve our freedom when there are people that hate their neighbors because they have a different colored skin or a different accent in their voice from theirs, or perhaps they may go to a different church?
When the colonist fought for freedom, they not only considered it a thing for men of the same color skin and nationality, but for all men, regardless of their  race, creed, or color.  If we foster prejudice and racial discrimination, then we have no freedom.  If we refuse to have anything to do with a person just because he happens to be different from us, we are doing the same thing that the Nazis or the so called “master race” did.  When we do this, we are gradually building up hatred in our own country.  In a country where there is hatred there can be no freedom, and without freedom we cannot expect peace and the  many comforts which we take for granted every day; therefore, we must get rid of intolerance and racial discrimination.  Not until we do this can we ever hope for world peace and the end of dictators.
Remember that our great country was discovered by foreigners and built by foreigners.  If we eliminate men and women of different races, colors, and religions from our country, then we shall  have little left.
If we want peace we must strive to keep our freedom.  The first step in keeping our freedom is to recognize the author of all freedom, he who created all men to be equal and to have equal rights, and honor him and give  him thanks, he who is the great lawgiver of the universe. Without  law  there can be no real freedom, yet there are those who would bar from public view, those fundamental laws upon which our common laws are founded, namely the ten commandments handed down by almighty God to Moses.
If there be no God whose commandments are to be respected and obeyed, why are the so called atheist who want to keep the laws of God out of public view, so afraid  to have them seen?   It seems to  be quite ridiculous to be afraid of something non existent.  Prayer and bible reading is being forbidden in our schools and public places, and we expect to preserve our freedom?  No! My friends, whether we like it or not, the infallible word of God tells us that:  “The wicked shall be  turned into hell and all nation that forget God.”  Psalm 9: 17
A much quoted scripture which is very true says:  “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves,  and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will  heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7: 14.
Every day it seems that we are losing more and more of our freedoms, We are being told what we can and cannot do in the very privacy of our own homes.  Even our foods are being laid out for us and we are being told what we should or should not eat.  A call goes out to the children of God to come out of your closets and be identified as lovers of God, and lovers of freedom for all men.  Humble yourselves and pray and seek the face of God and abide by his laws.
If we want peace and freedom we must strive to keep freedom, and in order to  keep freedom we must join hands with our neighbors whether they be  black , white, yellow or red, and realize the fact that we are one nation under God, and under God's laws, and that a separated people are doomed.

An Instrument of Praise

Thought for Today - April 8, 2024
An Instrument Of Praise  -

By: Robert A. Searles
If God would cause my pen to fly swiftly across the pages of a book, I would want it to be an instrument of his praise: for who can tell of the majesty and power, and the glory of God our Father?  Oh Holy Spirit who dwells within me, I pray that thou will glorify our risen  Christ with the words that I think, and speak, and write, and that out of my belly will flow rivers of living waters that might overflow into the lives of others through the way I live and by the way I speak.
Create in me, oh  God, a clean heart and a pure mind, and let my meditation be ever of thee.  “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to thee, O God my Savior.”  Whosoever you may be who reads these lines, be it known unto you that: “The Lord, he is God.” “It is he who hath made us and not we ourselves.”  It is God who has saved us by the shedding of his blood, and - “There is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4: 12.
“At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of things in heaven and things in earth, and things under the earth, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of  God the Father.” Philippians 2:10- 11
Pen, fly swiftly and tell the world of the glory of my God so that he might be glorified and  pleased with me, and receive me into everlasting habitations.

Something For Which to Look Forward!

Thought for Today - April 7
Something for Which to Look Forward   -  By: Robert A. Searles
What are we Christians looking forward to today?  As we begin this new day which God has given to us, do we have something to hope for, something that has been promised to us to which  we can with assurance look forward ?
We all ought to be looking for Jesus to come.  What a glorious morning that will be when: “The Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God , and the dead in Christ shall rise first, then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with  the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4: 16, 17.
We ought to be diligently scanning the heavens, “looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and Savior Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2: 13, 14.
Meanwhile, as we wait and watch, and long for his coming, we ought to occupy as
good soldiers and ambassadors until he comes.  “Denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we  should live soberly, righteously, and Godly in this present world.” Titus 2:12.
Let us rejoice and be glad.  There is a great  day coming when we  shall enjoy  the fruits of our labor, but rejoice today for this  is the day that the Lord hath made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it because this is the day that we  still have opportunity to labor for the Master  so that when the bridegroom comes we will have oil in our lamps, trimmed and ready to meet him.

Ambassadors For Christ

Thought for Today - April 6
Ambassadors For Christ  -  By: Robert A. Searles
Life on planet earth is preparatory for the real life in heaven.  It is  a back porch, or mud room, as it were, where we learn how to behave and cleanse ourselves before we are allowed into the parlor.  It is here that we hear and learn of God.  It is here that God's grace is freely offered to us, and we either receive it or reject it  It is here that we are saved.
We who  are saved have been allowed to remain on planet earth after we were saved so that we might perform the work and ministry of ambassadors for Christ so that others might hear the good news of the gospel and be saved.  We must all stand before the judgment seat of Christ some day and give an account of how we have performed this ministry.
We have all been given the tools with which to work and we have been given instruction in the use of these  tools.
“If any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not and it shall be given him.” James 1: 5
We have all been given talents and abilities, all differing according to the will of God.  Some day we will be asked, where is the talent and ability that was given to you?  According to what we have done, and how we have trusted and obeyed, and according to our faithfulness or unfaithfulness we will have to answer to our Lord.
How wonderful on that day would it be for our Lord to put his hand on our shoulder and say to us, well done thou good and faithful servant, but how ashamed we will be if we are found empty handed at that day with no crowns to place at our Savior's feet.
Let each of us, therefore: “Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfill it.” Colossians 4: 17.

No Blank Pages!

Thought For Today - March 13, 2024
No Blank Pages

By: Robert A. Searles

Each new day is a page in the story of our life.  God forbid that there should be one page left blank on which God does not receive honor and praise and glory.
“This is the day which the Lord hath made, let us therefore rejoice and be glad in it.”

Give God the glory, for great things he hath done.  Without him we could do nothing.  With him we can accomplish great things.  We are indeed more than conquerors through him who loved us.  Today let us be grateful for God's kindness and mercies.
Today let us sing forth his praise.  Oh Lord help us by your grace to love you more and worship you more.  Help us to grow in wisdom and the knowledge of Christ so that: “....we might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding that ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God, strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience, and long suffering with joyfulness: giving  thanks unto the Father which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who Hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his  dear son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins; who is the image of the invisible God, the first born of every creature: For by him were all  things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him and for him  and he is before all things and by him all things consist. Colossians 1: 9-17.
