A Nation Blessed?

Thought For Today -  August 31, 2024
A Nation Blessed?

By: Robert A. Searles

Read Psalm 33

The time for elections in our country is drawing near  for 2024, and  we are concerned as to what the results may be.  Whatever happens now and then, much depends on each of us individually, and collectively as the redeemed church of Jesus Christ.

God has promised us that if we his people will turn to him, confess our sins and repent, and pray, he will heal our land

Let us rise up oh men and women of God and let our voices be heard for God and take back our country.  May God bless America!
A new regime will soon be inaugurated in Washington. Will our nation be blessed? Will God look down from heaven and see his people in control of our great land? Will our leaders call upon the Lord God of heaven and earth for wisdom to make important decisions in the lives and affairs of men? Is the infallible word of God, the holy bible, the compass for our nation to lead us through these troubled waters? Or, will we chose to forget God and his guidance, and be cast into hell as the scriptures warn?

“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all nations that forget God “ Psalm 9: 17.
Or, will we have reason for rejoicing as we are promised by the holy writ - “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule the people mourn.” Proverbs 29: 2.
“Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people.” Proverbs 14: 34.

I pray that in the days ahead, we the people, will have cause for rejoicing and praising God. I pray that when God looks down from heaven he will see righteousness prevailing in our government, and that he will be pleased to bless us.

“Rejoice in the Lord, o ye righteous; for praise is comely for the upright.” Psalm 33:1.

“For the word of the Lord is right; and his works are done in truth.” Psalm 33:4.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. There is no king saved by the multitude of an host; a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. An horse is a vain thing for safety; neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. Behold, the eyes of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy, to deliver their soul from death and to keep them alive in famine.” Psalm 33: 16-19. -

Acceptable Sacrifice

 Thought for Today -  August 30, 2024
Acceptable Sacrifice
By: Robert A. Searles

“Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! And let them sacrifice the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.” Psalm 107: 21, 22

“I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. This shall please the Lord better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.” Psalm 69: 30, 31

An ox or a bullock offered upon an altar as a sacrifice to God is something that can be seen and touched, and something that seems to be real in the earthly sphere of things, and it is probably quite costly to the owner or the person offering it; however, God has said that he values more highly than the ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs, the praise and gratitude from the heart of his people.

God said that love is the more perfect way.; Good works, good deeds, good morals, sacrifice, all these things that man can offer up to God are abominations, and a stench in God's nostrils unless they are genuinely motivated by love and praise and thanksgiving.

Just to be talking about God, and to be doing things that pertain to God, and to be all wrapped up in some service for him in the name of God, is not enough by itself. Martha was busy about many things, she was so wrapped up in doing things, that she had little time for the Lord himself. Jesus did not say that Martha was completely wrong in doing, but he did say that Mary had chosen the better part. What was the better part? The better part was to sit at his feet and worship him, and listen to his teaching, and love him and show her gratitude, praise, and thanksgiving, by washing his feet with her hair.

The acceptable sacrifice to God is love and gratitude to God. Jesus said: “Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and all thy mind and all thy soul.” Our love of God will cause us to put everything else aside and make the Lord truly the Lord of our lives, and seek him first in all things, and trust him for all our needs.

God will not fail us if we truly trust and believe his word. If we will be preoccupied with God – God has promised that all our needs will be met and that our hearts wil burst forth wit new wine. Let us pray that God will help us individually and together to offer the right kind of sacrifices to him, which is the best of our time; the best of our life;; the first fruits of all our increase; the first part of every new day; and live in such a way that we will be a testimony to all people that we rely wholly on God, and not our own efforts, nor our own wisdom.
We ought to keep our minds clean, and our thoughts pure, and our bodies as the temple of God, spotless and clean that they may be God's dwelling place, and headquarters on earth.
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present you bodies, a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12: 1. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. and all  these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33

While we Wait!

Thought For Today - August 29, 2024

While we Wait!

By: Robert A Searles

While we await the sure return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ we are told to: -"Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feeble minded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
Rejoice evermore.   Pray without ceasing.   In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Quench not the Spirit.  Despise not prophesyings.   Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.  Abstain from all appearance of evil.
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.   Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. 1 Thessolonians 5: 14-

Righteousness Exalteth A Nation -

   Thought for Today - August  28, 2024

 Righteousness Exalteth A Nation   -

 By:Robert A. Searles

“When the righteous are in authority the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” Proverbs 29: 2.

How do we define “the righteous” and “righteousness”? The holy word of God ( the Holy Bible) says that there is none righteous.

“As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one: there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable: there is none that doeth good, no not one.” Romans 3: 10 - 12

If, according to God's word there be none righteous, who then can be deemed righteous enough to be placed in positions of authority to rule over us in the every day affairs of government?

After the coming elections are over, and a new president and his or her cabinet take office, will we have cause for mourning or will we be rejoicing? Perfect righteousness can be found only in the person of Jesus Christ, God's only begotten son. Only those who have believed and received him as Lord and Savior, and strive to be obedient to him, have had his righteousness imputed to them, and are looked upon by God as being righteous and qualified, according to God's word, to rule.

We had better pray diligently for our government leaders, and when it comes time to elect new leaders, if we want to keep our country free, with happy, prosperous people, we had better make sure that when we cast our vote, we ascertain whether they are righteous or wicked, and are standing for righteousness, or if they have no regard for the inspired Word of God.

“Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer. Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.” Proverbs 25:4,5

If we do not wake up and take heed to what God tells us in his word, someday it will be too late. “He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.” Proverbs 29: 1.

When God tells us over and over again to do something, or not to do something, and we do not take heed, then there comes a time when God cuts us off without hope.

“In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice. The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it  Proverbs 29: 6,7

Are we righteous? Do we sing and rejoice? Do we consider the cause of the poor and the downcast and try to do something about it?

My Soul Cries Out For God!

 Thought For Today - August 27, 2024

My Soul Cries Out For God!
By: Robert A. Searles

My soul cries out for God!  I need thee, Oh how I need thee, every hour I need thee.  When I do not hear from God,  I sink in the mire of despair and   am despondent.  God has promised that he will never  leave me, nor forsake me, so that I may boldly say, the lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

If I am cut off from God's fellowship it may be that there is  still sin in my life.  I may be neglecting to eat the bread of life, the word of God.  I may have bitter envying and strife in my heart.  I may have ought against my brother that needs to be reconciled.  Perhaps I had opportunity to do good, and did it not.  I may be insulting God by being anxious and worrisome and not trusting God for my daily needs.  Whatever the sin may be, greater is the remedy, for "where sin abounds, grace does much more abound." and "If we will confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Can I doubt the care of God for  me for today and tomorrow when he has kept me and provided for me through all these years?  If God has given his best, the Lord Jesus Christ to be my Savior, will he not with him also give me all things freely to enjoy?

Yes! He will! And he does, and what he will and has done for me, my Christian brother or sister, he will do for you also if you will trust him.

The Inescapable Question

Thought For Today - August 26,2024
The  Inescapable Question

By: Robert A. Searles

There is a universal,  inescapable question which every man, woman, boy and girl, must eventually answer for himself. The answer given to this question will determine the eternal destiny of each and every person on earth. There have been diverse opinions of men down through the ages, as concerning the person of Jesus Christ. Who is he? Some have said that he is just another man. Some have said that he was a good man. Others have called him a blasphemer, an imposter. There have been those who have said that he was one of the prophets. Jesus said, “I am come down from the Father, and the Father and I are one.” What is your answer, who is Jesus Christ? What do you believe about him?

Peter was asked this same question by Jesus Christ himself. “When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, whom do men say that I the son of man am? And they said: some say that thou art John the Baptist, some Elias, and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them; but whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, thou art the Christ, the son of the living God.” Matthew 16: 13,14,15,16

The multitudes that Jesus taught were confused as to who Jesus was. The Pharisees, the religious leaders of the day were blind as to the identity of Christ, even though all the prophets and holy scriptures had told of the his coming. “And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, who is this? “ Matthew 21: 10.

While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying: what think ye of Christ? Whose son is he? They say unto him, the son of David. He saith unto them, how then doth David in spirit call him Lord?” Matthew 22: 43.

Pilate tried to remain neutral and avoid answering the question as to who Christ was. He said to the multitudes that were calling for Christ’s crucifixion, what shall I do with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, let him be crucified.” Matthew 27:22

Those of us who know him personally through the holy scriptures and the witness of the Holy Spirit within us, will affirm that he is the Christ, the divine son of God, the savior of the world, whom God the Father has sent to redeem the world, that through him all people may be reconciled to God the Father.

Let those who doubt the credentials of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ examine the holy scriptures, and they will have to come to the same conclusion, that Jesus is the Christ, the divine son of God. The first mention of a Messiah or savior of mankind was given by God to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. God promised that one would come who would be bruised by Satan, but who would crush Satan and all evil, and be the propitiation for the sin of the whole world

“And the Lord said unto the serpent, because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field: upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” Genesis 3: 14,15.

Satan and the power of evil bruised the heel of Christ on the cross by his suffering and death, but Christ conquered and bruised the head of Satan by his glorious resurrection.
The killing of animals and the blood sacrifice for the atonement of sins was a picture of the coming lamb of God who would shed his blood once and for all for the cleansing of sin.

The prophets told of his coming into the world by a miraculous virgin birth. Isaiah prophesied, saying: “therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7: 14.

The gospel according to Matthew attests to the fact of the virgin birth of Jesus Christ. “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise, when as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.” Matthew 1: 18.

The angel appeared to Joseph and told him of what was about to take place. “But while he thought on these things, behold an angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1: 20,21.

The prophet Micah prophesied as to where the Messiah, or Christ should be born. “But thou Bethlehem Ephratah , though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel: whose going forth have been from old from everlasting.” Micah 5: 2.

It all came to pass, even as Isaiah and Micah had predicted. The virgin Mary conceived by the Holy Ghost, and Christ was born in the little town of Bethlehem. “And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.” Luke 2:1.

“And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth , into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: (because he was of the house and lineage of David) to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.. And it was that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered and she brought forth her first born son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” Luke 2: 4,5,6,7

John the Baptist testified as to the identity of Jesus when he proclaimed: “Behold the lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said , after me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.” John 1: 29, 30.

Jesus taught in the synagogue where he testified of himself when he was invited to read from the holy scriptures: “And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book he found the place where it was written: the spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted; to preach deliverance to the captives; and recovering of sight to the blind; to set at liberty them that are bruised; to preach the acceptable year of the Lord, and he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down, and the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.” Luke 4: 17-20.

The work and miracles that Jesus performed while here on earth could only be accomplished by God himself. He changed the water into wine. He healed the sick. He gave sight to the blind. He made the lame to walk. He cured the lepers. He walked on water. He raised the dead. He raised Lazarus after he had been dead for three days, and to cap it all, he himself rose from the dead. The tomb was empty. The fact that Jesus showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs attest to the fact that he is more than a man, he is God, and because he is God, he has the power and authority to forgive sins and grant eternal life to all who will believe that he is God, and that he is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one can approach God the Father except through him.

Jesus Christ changes lives. He brings families together. He heals broken hearts. He comforts the lonely. He forgives sins. He gives eternal life. He is the prince of peace, and in his own good time, he will return to earth and bring peace.

If there be any doubts in your mind as to who Jesus Christ is, I would urge you to examine all the evidence. Go to God in prayer and ask him to reveal to you the true identity of Jesus Christ.

Blessed Is He Whose Sins Are Forgiven!

 Thought for Today - August 24, 2024

Blessed Is He Whose Sins Are Forgiven!

 By: Robert A. Searles

Oh! How blessed is the one whose sins are forgiven, whose iniquities are remembered no more! How it blesses my heart and soul to know that there is forgiveness with God! If God should hold grudges, as it were, and mark our iniquities, who should stand?

“There is none righteous, no, not one.” Romans 3: 10

. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God with the exception of one, and that one person, our blessed Lord and Savior was perfect in all his ways and he who was sinless himself , bore all our sin and shame on the cross when he died for us; but praise God! He rose again the third day, proving that he is God and that God the Father had accepted his sacrifice of himself as the propitiation for all our sins. For as many as will receive it by faith, there is forgiveness with God for all our foolishness when we bow before him, acknowledging our folly and ask for his mercy to be bestowed upon us

Weary sinner, come to the foot of the cross and see Jesus dying in your place. Let the drops of his blood fall upon you by faith, and realize that divine blood was shed for you, and that because of the price that was paid, you are valuable to God. Then by faith visit the empty tomb and see that it is indeed empty: that he is not here but was raised for our justification, and because he lives, be sure that all of us who have put our trust in him shall live also.

Wandering prodigal, far from home, far from the Father's fellowship which you once knew, come home.

To borrow the words of the hymn writer: Will L. Thompson -  "Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling-calling for you and for me.  See on the portals he's waiting and watching, watching for you and for me.  Why should we linger and heed  not his mercies,  mercies for you and for me ?  Time is now fleeting, moments are passing, passing from you and from me.  Shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming, coming for you and for me.  O for the wonderful love he has promised, promised for you and for me. Tho we have sinned He has mercy and pardon, pardon for you and for me.

Come home! Come home! Ye who are weary come home!  Earnestly, tenderly,  Jesus is calling - calling  O sinner, come home!"-  Will I   Thompson

As we ponder the words of this beautiful hymn, may we by faith see a loving heavenly father standing at the portals or gates of heaven , longingly calling and waiting  to see a prodigal son or daughter repenting, and making their way back home to partake of his love, mercy  and forgiveness.

There is forgiveness with God. Come back to the fold, come apart from the world. Our father is ready to kill the fatted calf and put a ring on your finger and clothe you with his righteousness.

Oh yes! Thank God, there is forgiveness with God. “If thou Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.” Psalm 130: 3-5.

From Darkness Unto Light

Thought for Today - August 23, 2024
From Darkness Unto Light
By: Robert A. Searles

Once I walked in spiritual darkness.  I was blinded by the night around me.  I could not see.  I could not believe, and I had no hope. I was like the vast majority of people in the world today who walk in spiritual darkness, and without any real purpose for living and without hope.

How great is that darkness which enshrouds the world  in its thick cloud of evil and hopelessness and despair!  How sad it is that so many who profess themselves to be wise in the wisdom of the world have become fools, and declare that there is no God!  Some of those who are  leaders in our government who claim to be highly educated and possess great qualities of leadership are walking in gross darkness and leading us astray.

“For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.” Isaiah 9:16

We must prevent this from happening to our once great country which we love and for which we praise God, by fervent prayer and by casting our vote for Godly  morality and bibical principles  on election  day.
It seems that the great curtain of night has been drawn on this great land of ours.  There are countless numbers of men and women, boys and girls, and young people who admittedly have no real joy, no hope, for anything better  in their lives than a mere animal existence.  They have been taught from birth to worship the gods of self, and money, and  self esteem. Spiritual darkness causes many to stumble.

“The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they  stumble.” Proverbs 4: 19.

Those who are embedded in the darkness stumble over moral issues, and not being able to discern right from wrong, make wrong decisions concerning pro-choice, resulting in the murder of millions of unborn babies by abortion.  Because of spiritual darkness, many have abandoned the traditional family values of one man with one woman united together by God in holy matrimony for life.  Because of spiritual darkness, bible reading and prayer has been abandoned in the government schools system and replaced with armed guards necessary to prevent children from trying to solve their problems by killing one another.

How great is that darkness which covers our land when in the name of “policital correctness”, the name of Jesus Christ is forbidden to be mentioned , even on his own birthday, and our attention  directed to some pagan god or goddess, to honor them instead, and call it a happy holiday. Those who persist to walk in darkness do so because they love the darkness, and they love all the evil that is present in the darkness. Because of the darkness, some people would rather spend their time in a dark dingy barroom, crying over their beer, so to speak, than to be among those who have been snatched out of the darkness and have entered into the light of eternal life.

“But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light  that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!”Matthew 6: 23

“And this is the  condemnation that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.” John 3: 19

Mankind does not have to dwell in spiritual darkness and remain  in the spiritual eternal night of evil and sin, for light has come into the world.  “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light.  They that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shinned.” Isaiah 9:2

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be  upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called wonderful, counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of peace.”Isaiah 9:6.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world.  “In him was life, and the life was the light of men.” John 1:4.

Dear reader, if today you are dwelling in the darkness of spiritual night, if you have no joy, no peace, no hope for an eternal future in heaven with God – reach out to the one who came into the world to snatch us out of darkness, and receive by faith the great gift of love he has offered to all who will believe and trust him.  This is what Christmas is all about.  When we walk in the light as he is in the light we have new spiritual sight, and  we  can see things by faith the way he sees them, and we come to realize that he is not willing for us to remain in darkness, but to live forever in the glory of his eternal light and love.

"(A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.) LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about." Psalm 3: 1-6

What Did Jesus Say Concerning The law?

Thought for Today - August  22, 2024
What Did Jesus Say Concerning The law?
By Robert A. Searles

When almighty God created the universe and all things therein, he established certain laws by which it would function and continue.

He established all the laws of physics, mathematics, and astronomy, which he has by grace revealed to mankind; likewise, he established spiritual laws by which mankind was to relate to him and enjoy his fellowship.

He delivered to Moses  the ten commandments and other instructions that were required to be obeyed if one was to have fellowship with him and inherit his eternal glory.

No one can see God and inherit his glory unless they keep the whole law.  If they fail in one point of the law, all is lost.  God knew from the very beginning, because of the nature of man, what was in man, and the frailty of man, so he made provision for mankind by sending Jesus Christ into the world, the one and only person and member of the human race who is one hundred percent man, and at the same time, one hundred percent God, who alone was able to obey the whole law in its' entirety.

God still holds all mankind responsible for obeying his laws, but warns us that no one is capable of obeying the law perfectly, therefore unless someone else who is capable does for us that which we cannot do for ourselves, we are without hope and are lost.  But the good news is that Christ Jesus came into the world to save us from the curse of the law and set us free and place us under the grace or unmerited favor of God.

Jesus said: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets.  I am not come to destroy but to fulfill, for verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one title shall in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled.  Whosoever therefore shall break one of these commandments and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven; but whosoever shall do and teach them shall be  called great  in the kingdom of heaven.  For I say unto you that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case  enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5: 17-20.

Some people may think that because Christians are under grace and not under law, that the laws and commandments of God no longer apply, but this is not so.  Jesus taught otherwise.  The requirements of the law are in effect today as much as they ever were, but none of us can meet those requirements no matter how hard we try.  Our only hope is to flee to Jesus for forgiveness and ask him to impute his righteousness to us.  Then sin no longer abounds but grace does much more abound, and we are set free from the curse of breaking God's laws.

Whosoever shall call upon the Lord -Whosoever shall confess their sins - Whosoever shall repent, invite Jesus Christ into their heart and life shall be forgiven, saved, and have everlasting life.

What Did Jesus Say? - "Follow Me"

Thought For Today -August 21, 2024
What Did Jesus Say? - "Follow Me"

By: Robert A. Searles

Jesus came into the world to pay the debt owed to God the Father for all the individual sins of mankind. He offered himself as a sacrifice and a free gift of life to all who will receive him by faith. Jesus came to lead mankind to God the Father, and to lead them to Heaven. He came to give us life and that more abundantly. He came to be the master teacher of all, he who has all knowledge and wisdom, the way, the truth, and the light. He came to be the light of the world. To dispel the darkness of ignorance and sin.

Jesus said: "Follow me, and I will make you fisher of men." Matthew 4:19.

Jesus was a fisher of men. He went after the lost souls of the human race. He promised his disciples, and through them he promised us that if they listened to and kept his teaching, and follow in his footsteps, that they too would become fishers of men. They would draw men and women, boys and girls to him through their lifestyle and testimony, and many would be saved.

When Jesus left this world to return to the Father in Heaven, he left us with the great commission to go into the world and preach the gospel to all creatures. He wants his redeemed people to be fishers of men so that as many as will receive him can enjoy the blessings of salvation and eternal life.

Follow him faithfully and he will make you to become fishers of men and soul winners.

Call Unto God, And He Will Answer

Thought for Today - August 20, 2024
Call Unto God, And He Will Answer
By Robert A. Searles

“Unto thee, O lord, do I lift up my soul.  O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.  Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be  ashamed which transgress without cause.  Shew me  thy ways, O Lord, teach me thy paths.  Lead me in thy  truth, and teach me  for thou art the God of my salvation, on thee do I wait all the day.” Psalm 25: 1-5.

God will not disappoint any who truly wait for him to bless them.  God's ways are not our ways, and God's timing is not our timing.  God knows what is the best, and God knows when the time is right.  God will not allow our enemies to have the final victory over us if we truly trust him. In God's own time all our enemies will be put down, even death itself.

If there is anything that our chief enemy, Satan would like to have us to do is to doubt the word of God and his faithfulness to us.  God's word tells us that the just must live by faith, and when we do, we are greatly rewarded.

What did Jesus say? - About light?

Thought For Today - August  19. 2024

What did Jesus say? - About light?
By: Robert A. Searles

Up until the time that Jesus was born, the world was in a state of deep spiritual darkness. There had been no communication from God for four hundred years since the prophesies of Malachi, silent years in which every man seemed to do that which was right in his own eyes without any regard for the things of God, much as it is in the world today.

Isaiah had prophesied that there would come a time that the light would be turned on through the coming of the Messiah.

"The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shinned." Isaiah 9: 2.

Jesus Christ, the light of the world had come to seek and to save that which was lost and give light unto the world, but even after his coming into the world, the world was in such gross darkness that even though the light was shinning, it was necessary for God to send John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness, to declare that the light had been turned on, and to tell the multitudes to "Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world."

"In him was life; and the life was the light of men." John 1: 4.

"Then spake Jesus again unto them saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." John 8:12.

We who have been redeemed by the blood of Christ and born into his family, have the light of Christ dwelling in us. We ought to keep our gaze upon him so that we will reflect his light to the world around us, even as the moon reflects the light of the sun.

Jesus said: "Ye are the light of the world. a city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5: 14-16

Let us pray that each of us who are his will reflect the light of Christ and his salvation to give light and hope to a lost and dying world.

The Bread of Life

 Thought for Today - August 17, 2024

The Bread of Life

By: Robert A Searles

“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”John 6: 35

32Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 34Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. 36But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. 37All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. 38For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

What Did Jesus Say? - About Peacemakers?

What Did Jesus Say? - About Peacemakers?
By: Robert A. Searles

To be at peace with God and with one's self is a great blessing; and to be at peace with our fellowmen is also a great blessing.

"Peace ! Peace ! wonderful peace that cometh down from the Father above!"

Peace, that sense of calm and contentment, knowing all is well between us and God; that sense of assurance that there is nothing to fear, because God, our loving heavenly Father is in control.
How wonderful it would be if all men everywhere could be at peace with God through Jesus Christ, for then, and only then, can they be at peace with one another throughout the world.

Jesus said: "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." Mathew 5: 9.
To be a promoter of peace with God, and peace among men is a calling of God to all his children.

To point men and women and boys and girls to the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of sins and salvation is our duty.

"Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another." Romans 14:19.

May we who are the redeemed children of God, strive to be peacemakers so that we may be blessed of God.

What Did Jesus Say? - About the Condition of the Heart?

 Thought For Today - August 16. 2024
What Did Jesus Say? - About the Condition of the Heart?

By: Robert A. Searles

In its natural state, the heart of man is desperately wicked. Who can know it?

When the bible speaks of the heart, it is not referring to the physical heart, the pump that circulates the blood through our bodies, but is speaking of the innermost personality, the mind and the soul.

In the depths of our subconscious mind there are impurities which have been inherited from our ancestors down through the ages. This is called the sin nature. Until we are changed by being born again, as it were, by receiving Christ as our savior and allowing the Holy Spirit to descend into the basement of our mind and soul, and dig out those evil thoughts and imaginations, and rebellion against God, we cannot expect the Holy Spirit to feel at home there.
There is no cleaning detergent on earth that can purify our innermost being, our heart, and soul, and free us from the sin nature and replace it with the divine nature from God except the shed blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

When we have believed, and received him by faith, and allowed him to apply his blood to our account, his blood washes us and makes us whiter than snow.

When our hearts are pure because of what Christ has accomplished for us, then we are considered pure in heart, and we can sense the presence of God in our lives, and we can see God as he wants us to see him.

Jesus said: "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." Matthew 5:8.

What Did Jesus Say - About Those That Hunger?

 Thought For Today - August 14, 2024

What Did Jesus  Say - About Those That Hunger?

" Blessd are they that hunger and thirst after  righteousness: for they shall be filled." Matthew 5:6.

Those of us who have been "born again" into the family of God by the grace of God, through the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, still live in a heathen world full of sin and corruption. We are in the world, but not of the world. The banqueting table of this sinful world no longer nourishes us and we suffer from spiritual malnutrition, because the substance of the world cannot meet our spiritual needs.

Once we have tasted and seen that the Lord is good, the sweetmeats of the world become bitter to us, and does not satisfy. We hunger, and long, and desire for something better than that which the world has to offer. We hunger and thirst for the table that God has promised to spread for us in the wilderness.

Jesus told us that when we truly desire and hunger for the things of God and thirst for his righteousness we will be blessed and he will fill us. God our father will not allow his children to suffer.hunger, either spiritual or physical.
