The Lord is our shepherd.!

    Psalm 23 tells us: "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." When sheep have a shepherd, that is, someone to lead them and guide them; protect them and care for them; they are secure and have a sense of well being about them. They can rest with the assurance that they are well cared for at all times. they are in a place of security. The Lord is our shepherd. We are the sheep of his pasture and he cares for us.
    "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty." Psalm 91: 1. If we are dwelling in the secret place of the almighty, and in the pasture of our Lord, we shall not want. The word want here is used in the sense that we will not lack anything, no unsatisfied desire; no longing for something beyond our reach; no good thing withheld from us.
"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures." A sheep will not lie down if it can sense any danger around. The Lord makes us to lie down. There is nothing to be afraid of and nothing to be on the defensive about in the Lord's pasture. He gives us peace and rest. We lie down in green pastures where there is life abundant and everlasting, and where we can feast upon the manna of God ,and eat of the bread of life. In the Lord's pasture we live like kings because , not only are we his sheep, but we are his sons.
    "I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord God." Ezekiel 34:14,15. "And ye my flock, the flock of my pasture, are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord God." Ezekiel 34: 31.
In the Lord's pasture we can drink from the still waters that only Jesus can draw from, the fountain of his own being, and once we have drank from this water, we need never thirst again for it becomes like a well of living water bubbling up within us to the satisfying of our soul.
    Our souls find rest, refreshment and are restored in the pasture of our Lord, and because he loves us and has given us his family name, he leads us in paths of righteousness. He says to us: "This is the way, walk ye in it." Even when we cross the border between life and death, we need not fear any evil, because the Lord is the bridge across this gulf. He is the door; he is the way; He said: "I am the door, no man cometh unto the father but by me".
    Even though our enemies, the devil and the forces of evil would seek to trap us outside the will and fellowship of God, even in the presence of our enemies , and even when we are actually in bondage to our enemies, the Lord's table is prepared for us where we are invited to come and dine. Jesus said: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock, if any man will hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and sup with him and he with me."  In my father's house are many mansions. In my father's pasture are many blessings, so many that I cannot count them. The only way to describe them is to say that I am not big enough to contain them. My cup runneth over. "Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation, Selah." Psalm 68:19.
    Nothing but good can happen to us in the pastures of our Lord. His mercy and love shall never be withdrawn or withheld from us, and we shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?" Romans 8: 35. "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8: 37,38,39.
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Romans 8: 28

 Praise and thanksgiving!




    "Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel." Psalm 22:23.
    To fear the Lord does not mean that we are afraid of God as some one who is out to get even with us or to catch up with us and take vengeance upon us. If we have sought the redemption offered to us by the Lord Jesus Christ, then we are the children of God by adoption, and we can enter into a wonderful relationship and fellowship with God. To fear God means to be fully aware of his great power, and omnipotence, and his right to rule the universe; it means that we recognize ourselves as helpless creatures on this ball of earth , and that we are completely dependent upon the spirit of God to guide us and lead us in right paths.
    When we approach the throne of God and the mercy seat, we ought to come before God with fear and trembling, in the sense that we realize that we can enter God's presence only by his grace, and only after a terrible price was paid for our redemption, namely, the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. We ought to come before God ,uplifting the name of Jesus. Our chief purpose ought to be to praise God, and glorify him.
    God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit. God is a rewarder of all those who diligently seek him.  Many times we fail to worship God properly. We ought to be absorbing the essence and spirit of God as a sponge absorbs water, so that when God sees fit to squeeze us a little, his spirit will be poured out on others through us like water pours from a saturated sponge.
Most of the time that we are in prayer or fellowship with God ought to be in praise and it ought to glorify his name. All the host of heaven are watching and listening to see if God is glorified in us. We ought to always lift up the name of Jesus; praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise God for salvation; praise God for life everlasting; praise God for his protection; praise God for his love; praise God for our health; praise God for our food; praise God for our homes; praise God for each other's companionship; praise God for the fellowship of the Holy Spirit; and praise God for opportunity to serve.
"Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright." Psalm 33:1.
"Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely." Psalm 147:1
    "I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth." Psalm 34: 1.
"O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together." Psalm 34: 3.  "Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God." Psalm 50: 23. "Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands: sing forth the honor of his name: make his praise glorious." Psalm 66: 1,2.  "Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp (out in the world) bearing his reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name." Hebrews 13: 13,14,15.
Then following praise and worship and thanksgiving, comes service.  "But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased." Hebrews 13: 16.

    "Then said Jesus to them again, peace be unto you; as my father hath sent me, even so send I you." John 20: 21.
    Jesus gave his disciples the commission to continue his ministry on earth after he was ascended into heaven. He gave them the Holy Spirit to help them.  We who are the children of God, have been given the same commission from him. We are told to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. As God sent Jesus to reconcile the world to himself, so Jesus sends us into the world among sinners, to tell them of his love and redeeming power. There is no purpose for living on earth other than for service to God. The unsaved person , from the time he is old enough to think for himself ,is constantly searching for something that will fulfill his purpose in life. It is called the pursuit of happiness. It is the common thought that happiness is something which we can run after, and some day catch it, and when it has been caught, hang onto it and never let it go. No wonder there are so many frustrated people in the world. They go from one thing to another, without ever finding any real satisfaction in life, and no purpose for living. Education won't satisfy, houses and property and wealth won't satisfy, even good health won't satisfy, and the reason being, that we were designed to be satisfied only from within when we have found the perfect will of God and are doing it.
The most miserable people of all are those who have become the sons of God, if they have never yielded themselves to serve God and win souls to Christ. The greatest joy and satisfaction that any of us can ever experience is to know that we are doing the very thing that we were sent to do after we were saved, that is, to magnify and exalt the name of the Lord Jesus Christ; to win souls; and to continue the ministry of love and compassion, reconciliation to God through Christ, and help those in need.
    When a person has no purpose in life other than to satisfy his own flesh, then life itself becomes nothing but a continual state of boredom and depression, and can become a living hell. We have been sent by Jesus to do a job, to work in his vineyard, to bring in the harvest. There is much joy in laboring for the Lord. We are told that they "that sow in tears, shall doubtless come again rejoicing, bring their sheaves with them.".
    I want to be one of the sent ones. I don't want to be just sitting around feeling miserable because I have reached a certain age, and feeling sorry for myself that all my yesterdays could not continue until today,. I pray that the Lord will fill me to overflowing with the Holy Spirit and give me a ministry and service for him that will keep me busy magnifying and exalting his name forever. I want to keep my eyes on the future, not on the past. That which is ahead is greater and more exciting than anything we have ever known in the past. I want to keep pressing forward to the prize of the high calling of God, as Paul said, and to keep my eyes fixed firmly on Jesus. I want to seek first the kingdom of God, and accept with thanksgiving any blessing that God want to shower upon me.

    "To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity. to give  subtilty  to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. a wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: to understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction." Proverb 1: 3-7.
We ought to discipline ourselves to meet with God the first thing we do every new day to receive from God the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment and equity: we ought to be quiet before God and allow him to speak to us  So that we might have a healthy respect for God and acknowledge him as our beginning and our  savior  and our hope for all eternity.

 Wait for the Lord!

    "The Lord is my light and my salvation: whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27: 1  "Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord." Psalm 27:14.  Wait patiently for the salvation of God. "I have waited for thy salvation, O Lord." Gen: 49: 18.
    Sometimes when we pray and ask God for something, our request are not immediately granted. Sometimes there is a delay and a time span between our request, and God granting that request, even though it may be the will and intention of God to grant that for which we have asked him. Sometimes we grow weary in our waiting for God to come to our rescue, and we question in our minds whether we should wait for it any longer as was the question asked in 2 Kings 6:33.
    But we are reminded that: "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40: 31.
    God grant that we shall have the faith and patience of Job and say with him: "If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come." Job 14:14

 One comforting thought!

    One comforting thought to keep in remembrance: that is - when the Lord rises to fight for us, our enemies are rendered helpless and unable to perform, because we are the blood bought children of God through Jesus Christ. God has promised to take hold of shield and buckler with us and fight against our enemies. As members of God's family, our enemies are his enemies, and his enemies are our enemies.
"Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee. Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger: the Lord shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them. Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men. For they intended evil against thee: they imagined a mischievous device, which they  are not able to perform. Therefore shalt thou make them turn their back, when thou shalt make ready thine arrows upon thy strings against the face of them. Be thou exalted, Lord in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.":Psalm 21: 8-13

 Who are we?

    "Jesus spoke many things unto them in parables, saying: 'Behold, a  sower  went forth to sow; and when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: and when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. and some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: but other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixty fold, some thirty fold. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.' " Matthew 13: 3-9.
    Later, Jesus explained to his disciples the meaning of this parable.  "Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. but he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." Matthew 13:18-23.
    Who are we? Which category do we fall under? Are we one who received the word by the wayside? Are we one with a stony heart? Are we receiving the word among thorns? Or are we good ground where the seed of the word of God will be received, take root and bear fruit?  How do we receive the word of God? Do we understand it? Do we try to understand it? Do we ask God for wisdom and understanding to help us to understand what he is telling us in his word, or are we like the one by the wayside? Satin is ready and waiting to snatch away from us our understanding and obedience to the word of God.
    Is our heart cold and stony? Do we harbor old hurts, and resentments? Do we hide injuries in our heart? Do we cling to worldly pleasures and un- confessed sins so that our heart becomes stony and unable to allow the word of God to penetrate to the depths of our soul where it will take root and spring up and bear fruit?  Are we so entangled in the thorns and cares of our daily lives in this world that all our thoughts are on making a living, taking care of our families, and having a place in society, that the word of God is choked out of our lives and profits us nothing?  Or, are we the good ground which Jesus talked about: We desire a better understanding of God's word? We search the scriptures daily. We pray and ask God to give us spiritual understanding and discernment. We ask God to forgive all our known sins, take away, anger, resentments, grudges and give us love for one another so that the stony heart will become soft and be able to absorb the word of God. If we would be untangled from the thorns of daily life, we must believe God's word in its' entirety, receive Christ as our savior, and trust God to provide all our needs, and seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and have the assurance that all these other needs in our life God will provide for our good and his glory. Then we will be the good ground where the word of God will bear fruit in our lives.
