How Can We Continually Please God?

 Thought for Today - April 5, 2023

How Can We Continually Please God ?

By: Robert A. Searles

If we are truly the redeemed children of God, and he is our heavenly father, and Christ our elder brother ,it should be our goal to live in a way that is pleasing to him at all times.  Here are some ways in which we can be pleasing to him every day.

"Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.  Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.  Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?"Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.  Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.  Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by eating ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who do so. We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat.  The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the campAnd so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace  he bore.  For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise-the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.  And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.  Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you"  Hebrews  13

Praise and Thanksgiving

Thought for Today - April 4, 2023
Praise And Thanksgiving
By: Robert A. Searles
“Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.” Psalm 22: 23 (KJV)
To fear the Lord does not mean that we are afraid of God as some one who is out to get even with us or to catch up with us and take vengeance upon us. If we have sought the redemption offered to us by the Lord Jesus Christ, then we are the children of God by adoption, and we can enter into a wonderful relationship and fellowship with God. To fear God means to be fully aware of his great
power, and omnipotence, and his right to rule the universe; it means that we recognize ourselves as helpless creatures on this ball of earth, and that we are completely dependent upon the spirit of God to guide us and lead us in right paths.
When we approach the throne of God and the mercy seat, we ought to come before God with fear and trembling, in the sense that we realize that we can enter God's presence only by his grace, and only after a terrible price was paid for our redemption, namely, the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. We ought to come before God, uplifting the name of Jesus. Our chief purpose ought to be to praise God, and glorify him.
God is spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in spirit. God is a rewarder of all those who diligently seek him. Many times we fail to worship God properly. We ought to be absorbing the essence and spirit of God  as a sponge absorbs water, so that when God sees fit to squeeze us a little,
his spirit will be poured out on others through us like water pours from a saturated sponge.  Most of the time that we are in prayer or fellowship with God ought to be in praise and it ought to glorify his name. All the host of heaven are watching and listening to see if God is glorified in us. We ought to always
lift up the name of Jesus; praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise God for salvation; praise God for life everlasting; praise God for our homes; praise God for each others companionship; praise God for the fellowship of the Holy Spirit; and praise God for opportunity to serve.
“Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.” Psalm 33: 1 (KJV)
“Praise ye the lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant, and praise is comely.”
Psalm 147: 1 (KJV)
“I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Psalm 34: 1 (KJV)

“O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.” Psalm 34: 3 (KJV)
“Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me, and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.”Psalm 50: 23."
“Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands: sing forth the honor of his name: make his praise glorious.” Psalm 66: 1,2 (KJV)
“Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp (out in the
world) bearing his reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” Hebrews 13: 13, 14, 15 (KJV)
Then following praise and worship and thanksgiving, comes service. “But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” Hebrews 13: 16 (KJV)

Thought for Today - April 3, 2023
Our Daily Bread
By: Robert A. Searles

Give me this day my daily bread so that my soul might find nourishment in thee, O God of my salvation, and that I might have to give to others, that they too might be fed. Except you do break the bread to me, I cannot feed the hungry. A person can receive nothing except it be given him from God. You have told us, dear Lord in your word, that as our days are, so shall our strength be.
Each day the manna falls from heaven upon your beloved own, and provision is made for our well being; therefore, dear Lord, we ask for strength that we might gather that which you have already provided for us.
Your word O God is a banqueting table to which all who will hear your voice have been invited to “come and dine.” A banqueting table filled with the finest cuisine of heaven; the bread of life; the lamb of God; the heavenly manna, the Lord Jesus Christ, who said that if we eat of his flesh and drink his blood we shall never hunger and never thirst, and live forever. He is at the head of the table with his arms outstretched and calling to the multitudes, “come and dine.” Sinner, will you believe and receive Christ as your Lord and Savior today and partake of the bread of life?
Christian friend and brother and sister, will you leave the scraps of the world to the hogs and come to your Father's table and eat like a king's son. God has promised that he will supply us with daily bread, but our daily bread is found within the pages of his holy word. We must gather and eat by reading and prayer and meditation in a disciplined time and manner. Then the Holy Spirit will feed us. Then we will have enough for ourselves and others, and “baskets full left over”.

 Thought for Today - Aptil 1, 2023

Jesus's Advice for Daily Living

By: Robert A. Searles

Some of Jesus's advice for our daily living:

Keep his commandments - Love God with all our mind soul, and spirit, and  love our neighbor as ourselves.

For our safety - make our dwelling the secret place of the most high - Psalm 91

We must not judge one another

Ask God for the things that we need and he will abundantly supply all our needs and desires according to his will

. Enter in at the strait gate

Beware of false prophets

"Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.  And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?  Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?  Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.  Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you."

7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.  "Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?  If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!"

"Enter ye in at  the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction , and many there be which go in thereat:  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

" Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.  Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?  Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.  A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.  Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.  Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them"

" Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.  And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.  And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes."  Matthew 7: 1-29
