Faith and Patience

 Thought for Today - August 7, 2023

Faith and Patience

"James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed." James 1:3

No Rock Like Our God

Thought for Today - August 5, 2023

 No Rock Like Our God

By: Robert A. Searles

In today's troubled world, is the anchor of our soul firmly gripping the solid rock which is Jesus?

And does our anchor hold during the storms and turmoils of our lives?

One hymn writer has written : "In times like these we need an anchor, be very sure your anchor holds and grips the solid rock"

“There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.”

“Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?”  Psalm 77: 1

"Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD'S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is. Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day. Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked. For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name.

"And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength. They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble." 1Samuel 2: 2

We Must Be Born Again

Thought for Today - August 4, 2023

We Must Be Born Again

By: Robert A. Searles

Before we could come alive and enter the realm of the natural, material world, in which we exist in the flesh, it was necessary for us to come out of our mother's womb and be born of water.

There is a natural  material realm, and there is a supernatural spiritual realm, wherein is the unseen kingdom of God.  In order for us to enter into and become a part of the kingdom of God, we must be born in the spirit.  When we believe and receive Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are born into the Spirit realm, we are given eternal, everlasting life, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us and we begin to understand and appreciate the things of the Spirit world of God.

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
John 3:5 (

"There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." John 3

While We Wait

While We Wait

 By: Robert A. Searles

While we exercise our faith and patiently wait for that blessed hope of the Lord's promise 0f his coming for his church, may we live  each day in great expectation that it may be today, and have oil in our lamps and the wicks trimmed and live in such a way that we will not be ashamed  to meet him in the air  Let us follow Paul's message to the Thessalonians and strive to please God.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18

“That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.”

"Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication "For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit." 1Thesalonians 4; 1-8

"That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing. But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope."

A Tree Of Life -

Thought for Today - August 1, 2024
A Tree Of Life  -

 By: Robert A. Searles

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”  Proverbs 11:30 ,
We see a tree growing in the midst of other trees, and we can usually determine what kind of a tree it is by examining the fruit which it bears.  How refreshing, and restoring it would be if we were travelers in the wilderness, and suddenly came upon a tree with fruit which we could eat.

The verse says:  “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life.”  Are we like a tree planted in the vineyard of our God?  Are we one of those that be planted in the house of the Lord, and are we flourishing in the courts of our God?  Are we a tree called “righteous”?

“The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.  Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.  They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing”. Psalm 92: 12-14

Righteous trees that are flourishing in the courts of God shall still bring forth fruit in old age.  Is the fruit that we are bearing, life giving, and life sustaining to travelers who pass our way?  The scripture says that the fruit of the righteous is a tree of life.  Will someone live and be sustained, and grow because they have eaten of our fruit today?  Are we truly a tree of life?  Are we truly soul winners?  He that winneth souls is wise.

Let us examine ourselves and see if we are indeed righteous, not that we are righteous in our selves, but that we have been made righteous by the finished work of Christ.  And let us examine ourselves and see if we are indeed planted and flourishing in the courts of our God.  We cannot abide long as a branch unless we are  firmly attached to the root which is the Lord Jesus Christ.

What kind of fruit are we bearing?  Is it eatable to a hungry soul that may come our way today?  Jesus said that a branch that bears no fruit is good for nothing and is cut off and thrown away, but even the branch that does bear  fruit, the husbandman purgeth and pruneth it so that it  might bear more fruit.

May it be said of us that we are righteous trees, growing in the courts of God, and that our fruit is a tree of life, and pray that we will still bring forth fruit in old age.
