Let Your Light Shine!

Thought for Today - May 8, 2024

Let Your  Light Shine!

By: Robert A. Searles
- For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5: 16

"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5: 13-19

Almost Persuaded

Thought for Today - May 7, 2024
Almost Persuaded
By: Robert A. Searles

If perchance someone may be reading these lines who is not a Christian, and does not know  what it means to be saved, and you do not have the joys of fellowship with our wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, you ought to stop right where you are and consider the alternatives.

It is possible to have a pearl of great price slip through your fingers and be lost to you forever, and it is possible to be so close to much treasure, and yet to lose or neglect it all.

Perhaps a wife or husband; a mother or  father; or a son or a daughter has been praying for your salvation.  Perhaps they have very lovingly told you of Jesus and his power to save.  Perhaps they have very patiently and kindly explained to you God's simple plan of salvation.  It may be that at times the Holy Spirit has tugged at your heart and you have been almost persuaded, almost but not yet, another time, when I am older, after I have  exhausted all the pleasures of a worldly life style: almost persuaded to believe and trust Jesus, almost, but still lost.

You, no doubt, have heard the gospel preached at church, or on the  radio, or television, or from literature such as you are now reading, and yet you continue to neglect your salvation.

My dear friend or relative, whoever you may be, millions throughout the ages have tried and tested the Word of God and have found it to be sure and steadfast and trust worthy.  The Word of God teaches us that it is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgment, and stand before God and give an account for what he did with God's greatest gift to man, his only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ: That whosoever should believe on him and call upon the name of  the Lord shall be saved.

My friend, the only alternative to being saved is to be lost, and to be lost does not mean cessation of existence or annihilation, but it means to spend eternity in an eternal hell, separated from God, and your saved loveones forever.

"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? Hebrews 2: 3, 4.

If you have  neglected your salvation, won't you reconsider before it is eternally too late?

A loving God and Savior is calling and waiting for you to respond to his invitation.
Time is short, death  beds are coming, Jesus is tenderly calling for you.

God forbid that when my time on earth is ended, that I search over heaven for you my friends and loved ones, and not find you there, simply because you have not heeded the warning.

Jesus Christ loves you so much, and he gave his all for you.  It is so easy to have the assurance of the forgiveness of sin and be persuaded that when you die you will go to be with him in heaven forever.

What must you do to be saved? Believe in your heart that Jesus is the Christ, the divine son of God born of a virgin, and that he died to pay your sin debt to God , and that God the father raised Jesus from the dead as evidence that he had accepted his sacrifice for the salvation of all mankind.

By faith, believe the good news of the gospel, Call upon  Jesus, Ask him to forgive your sins- past, present, and future - and come live in your heart and make him your Lord.

If you will do this you will be fully persuaded  that you are born again, saved, and on your way to heaven.

Bold as a Lion

Thought for Today- May 6, 2024

Bold As a Lion!

By: Robert A. Searles

Thank and praise God that in the name of Jesus our Saviour, we are invited by God our Father , to enter into his presence with boldness to receive from him grace and mercy, and have all our needs met.

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16

Ephesians 3:12 - "In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him."
Proverbs 28:1 - "The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion."

"Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin, Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:13-16

A Life of Love!

 Thought for Today - May 5, 2024

 A Life of Love!

By: Robert A. Searles

"Live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."  Ephesians 5:2

"But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.  For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.  But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.  Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,  Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.  Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ"   .Ephsians 5 :1-21

Are You Thirsty? Come And Drink. Are You Hungry? Come And Dine.

  Thought for Today - May 4, 2024

Are You Thirsty? Come And Drink. Are You Hungry? Come And Dine.

 By: Robert A. Searles

“Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? And you labor for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.” Isaiah 55 1,2

. “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thought: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him,; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.” Isaiah 55: 6,7.

Think about the wonderful grace of God and the gift of God's love; God offering himself to us as the source of life, cleansing power, and satisfaction for our hungry souls. Those who know not God in the world are empty and hungry and thirsty, and lack satisfaction for their souls. Those who know not God are forever pursuing happiness and never finding it. Those who know not God, toil and sweat and labor, and spend their years in endless searching for something that will make sense in their lives. God made humans in his likeness in such a way that the only thing that makes sense and brings joy and happiness and fulfillment to their lives is when they are right with him and in the right relationship and fellowship with him through the Lord Jesus Christ. God says that if we are thirsty we can come without money and drink from the living waters. And if we are hungry we can come without money and eat the bread of life. God has spread a banquet before us. He has paid the price and he invites all who will to come and enjoy the feast at his expense, all by free grace – God's riches at Christ's expense.

“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.” Psalm23: 5,6.

Whosoever will may come. Jesus said: “He that cometh unto me, I will in no wise cast out.” “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5: 6 .

Jesus answered the woman of Samaria and said: “If thou knew the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him, shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4: 10-14.

The words of the hymn writer puts it this way: “There is a fountain filled with blood which flowed from Immanuel's veins. Sinners plunged beneath that flood loose all their guilty stains.”

Yes, they loose their spiritual hunger, they loose their thirst, they are filled from within, they are satisfied in Jesus. Seek ye the Lord while he may be found and he will satisfy your thirst and your hunger.

“Ho every one that thirsteth, come to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.” Isaiah 55: 1.

All who call upon the Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved. Jesus said: “whosoever cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out.”

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, by faith call upon him and receive forgiveness of sins.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2: 8, 9.

“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. Believe it, and receive Christ today and you will never be spiritually hungry and thirsty again.

God's Promise Of The Holy Spirit

Thought forToday -  May 2, 2024

God's Promise Of The Holy Spirit

 By: Robert A. Searles

When Jesus, after his resurrection, left the earth and ascended into heaven, he promised the apostles and other disciples who were present and witnessed his ascent, that in the manner as they saw him go into heaven, he would one day return and receive them unto himself, and while they waited for his return, he would send to them another comforter, the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit to be their comforter, teacher, and guide.

He commissioned them to go into all the world and preach the gospel, but to wait in the city of Jerusalem until they received the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit.

“If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another comforter, that he may abide with you for ever, even the spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more, but ye see me, because I live, ye shall live also.” John 14: 15-19

“Then opened he their understanding that they might understand the scriptures, and said unto them, thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things, And behold I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. Luke 24: 45-49

“And being assembled together with them, he commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, it is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the utermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; which also said, ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have see him go into heaven.” Acts 1: 4-11

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another, behold are not all these which speak Galileans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?” Acts 2: 1-8

“And they were all amazed and in doubt, saying one to another, what meaneth this? Others mocking said, these men are full of new wine.” Acts 2: 12,13

“But Peter standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: for these men are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel.” Acts 2: 14, 15, 16.

“And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.” Joel 2: 28, 29

Unless we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, we cannot know God, and we are not saved. We can know when we are truly saved because the Holy Spirit which dwells within each believer, bears witness with our spirit that we are indeed the children of God.

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2: 14.

When we are born into the world, we are born naturally – dead to the spirit of God because of an inherited sin nature. Jesus said: in order to know God and be saved and have the Holy Spirit of God dwelling within us we must be born again .

“There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother'swomb and be born? Jesus answered , verily, verily I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.” John 3: 1 -7.

If any one is to be saved it must be the work of God alone to draw that person to himself, not by the mere choice of the person's will, or of his good works, or good intentions, or the will of others.

“Jesus said: Murmur not among yourselves. No man can come to me except the Father which hath sent me draw him, and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, and they shall all be taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.” John 6: 43-45.

“And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Acts 2: 21.

To be saved means to be born again by the power of God when we are willing to confess to God that we have sinned and want his forgiveness, and believe that Jesus paid the penalty for all our sins by his death on the cross, and that we are justified before God by his death and resurrection. When this happens, we become new born babes in the family of God, and his Holy Spirit enters our lives, and we become spiritually alive to the things of God.

When we are saved, we are saved forever and sealed by the Holy Spirit, and we are promised eternal life – that is we will enjoy God's quality of life as long as God lives, and that is forever.

“That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ in whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession unto the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1: 12-14

“How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation?” Hebrews 2:3

The Spiritual Conflict

 Thought forToday -May 1, 2024

 The Spiritual Conflict

By: Robert A Searles

When, by the grace of God, we are liberated, and set free from our natural state of blindness and of being oblivious to the things of God, and we by God's grace are given faith and spiritual sight to behold the glory of God and the truth of his word and his creations, we are reborn in the spirit, and suddenly we become aware of spiritual things, and we for the first time, come to see ourselves, as in a mirror, and we see the filthy rags of sin in which we are clothed. We see what we really are by ourselves in our own sinfulness, and we see the glory of God and the righteousness of Christ, and that which he has to offer us, and we cry out to him in despair – Oh God! be merciful to me a sinner, and save me for Christ's sake, and he hears our sincere prayer and immediately saves us. He pulls us up out of the miry pit and sets our feet upon the solid rock, then we have become the children of God, joint heirs with Christ, and inheritors of eternal life. Since the fall of mankind in the garden of Eden, there has been a spiritual warfare raging on earth between God and Satan, and between the children of God and the children of the devil. The children of God, being clothed anew by the righteousness of Christ, are now enlisted in the spiritual army of God and wear the uniform of the valiant soldiers of the King of kings and Lord or lords, all for the glory and honor of their redeemer. We are charged by God that we might war a good warfare. “Thou therefore endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.” 2 Timothy 2: 3,4. KJV Bible “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, where unto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6: 12.KJV Bible “But I see another law in my members, in warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.” Romans 7:23 KJV Bible The battle rages between good and evil, truth and error. The enemy is ruthless, and cruel, and powerful, and we are warned by our commander in chief to always be on the alert for the diabolical schemes of our adversary. He sets traps for us to fall into and be taken prisoner, and to be bound in spiritual chains from which, by our own efforts is difficult or impossible to escape – bad habits, attitudes, fear, resentments hatred, anxiety, rebellion, doubts, unbelief -all these and many more lethal weapons he throws at us to destroy our testimony and our effectiveness in proclaiming the truth of God, and claiming territory and winning souls to Christ . Our foes are invisible, therefore we are warned to- “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all, talking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6: 10-17.KJV Bible “Be sober, be vigilant: because your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour: whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” 1 Peter 5: 8,9. KJV Bible As soldiers of Christ, we have been well equipped and provided for the strife that lies before us. With Christ, as our commander in chief, our never failing conqueror, we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.” 2 Corinthians 10: 4.KJV Bible When we try to fight the battles of life with our own strength and resources, we fail miserably because in ourselves we are weak and easily succumb to temptations. “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God,” Ephesians 6; 17. KJV Bible “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 .KJV Bible “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.” Romans 13: 12.KJV Bible “By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand, and on the left.” 2 Corinthians 6: 7.KJV Bible “Let us who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.” 1 Thessalonians 5:8.KJV Bible Our enemies are those within our own soul. The battle rages within us. It is here that we must meet the spiritual conflict. Take the weapons that God has provided- read and study the word of God, search for and believe all the promises of God, pray diligently for ourselves and others. Let us have the mind of Christ, and let his teaching dwell in our hearts, and let us walk and abide with him every day and hour of our lives. If we will do this we will have the victory.
