Abiding in the Shadow of the Almighty

 Thought for Today - July 22, 2024

Abiding  in the Shadow of the Almighty

By: Robert A. Searles

Where is that "secret place of the most High", the place that God has promised he will protect us from all that is evil ?  The secret place of the most high is where Jesus is, at the right hand of God the Father.  Only those of us who have accepted Jesus Christ as our savior and lord can find and abide in that secret place and claim all the promises of God's love and protection.

Dear reader, have you accepted Jesus Christ as your LORD and SAVIOUR , and are you dwelling and abiding in that secret place where he dwells?

Does Psalm 91 apply to you, and do you feel safe and secure in the promises of God?

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide   under the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.  He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.  Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;  Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.  For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.  They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.  Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.  With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation."  Psalm 91

Get Wisdom! - Find the Knowledge of God !

Thought for Today - July 21, 2024

Get Wisdom! - Find the Knowledge of God !

By Robert A Searles

Some of us spend a huge sum of money, time and energy  to attend colleges and universities, and higher seats of learning to acquire a repertorie of facts and knowledge.  We read many books, do much research, listen to many lectures from teachers and professors who may or may not know what they are talking about, they may be teaching us truth or lies, who knows?  We must be discerning and be able to evaluate what we hear, from those who would be our mentors,  from that which is truth and  from that which is error. We may be able to acquire a storehouse of facts and knowledge and opinions, but not have a clue as to how to use  all that we have learned for the good and benefit of mankind. In order for us to be able to discern truth from error and to use our so-called "education" for good instead of evil, we must have wisdom in order to dissect every word, sentence, and ideology  that come from the lips of our preachers, and teachers. There is only one source of true wisdom, and that is from almighty God and he has promised to give liberally to all who will ask.  True wisdom begins with the knowledge of God, and sad to say, there are some in leadership roles of government, who may think they are highly qualified and educated, but having no or little knowledge of God, thus lacking wisdom, they are like "educated fools"., for "the fool sayeth in his heart, there is no God".

In order for any people or nation to prosper and be successful, they must please God who is sovereign over all. "Without knowledge of God, it is impossible to please God."

The beginning and foundation of education is a proper knowledge of God, one is not truly educated until he knows God

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”  James 1: 5

"My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God." Prov 2: 1-3

Seek wisdom and know God and be truly educated.  Let  us sing a song o praise and thanksivin to tje LORD click here:  <iframe width="1067" height="600" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Jvfo1r2Clwo" title="Be Still and Know (with lyrics) - The most Peaceful Hymn" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>

What is your Compass?

 Thought For Today – July 20, 2024
What is your Compass?
By: Robert A. Searles

We are told by men of experience in seamanship and navigation of the importance of a compass on a dark night or in a dense fog on the high seas.  When upon the ocean billows a ship is floundering in a storm, and the fog is so thick that you cannot hardly see a hand before you, sometimes you get to wonder whether or not you can or should trust your compass.  It seems at times that the needle is pointing in the wrong direction from what you think to be right, but the wise seaman will have first checked his compass before he launches out into the unknown.  When he is far from home and from land, if he is wise, he will follow the direction that the compass indicates as its' faithful needle points to the true north reference point.

My dear friend whoever you may be, we are on a broad uncharted ocean of life, lost and not having any sense of direction or knowledge of how to find our desired haven until we accept the
Word of God, which has been tried and found to be true. as our compass. Simply by taking the teaching of the Word of God and obeying its' laws and principles by faith, just because God said it, we must believe it and follow it to guide us safely home.  Our compass tells us that the way home to heaven is by the way of the cross.  There is no other way.  Broad is the way that leads to destruction, but narrow is the way that leadeth unto life eternal.

“Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by him.”
Weary sailor are you lost in the fog, unhappy, depressed, discouraged, fearfully tossed on the sea of life, desiring eternal everlasting life, and seeking heaven, but not not knowing  where to find it?  You have at your disposal a compass which has been tried and is true, the  Holy Bible, the divinely inspired Word of God.  It points to the true reference point for all of life, the Lord Jesus Christ.  It tells us how we are sinners from birth and without hope in the world,  and that we all have sinned against God and are condemned to die;  but it also tells us of how Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. He died for our sins, and was buried and rose again the third day, all according to the scriptures, so that we might by faith receive him as  our savior and allow him  to lead us safely home.

God in his mercy has appointed and anointed us who are saved, and know our way home to heaven, to be the lights along the shore so that some poor lost sinner may find his way home.

Click below and let us sing:  <iframe width="1067" height="600" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WfZqfx1Khf0" title="Let the Lower Lights be Burning" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>

If someone should ask - Who is God? -

 Thought For Today  - July 18, 2024
If someone should ask -  Who is God?  -  By: Robert A. Searles

If someone should ask, who is God? "God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:24

.      God is an infinite, eternal being. the divine source of all things. He is the creator of the universe and everything in it. In the beginning, (which excludes the beginning of God, for he had no beginning and has no end), God said let there be, and it was so.

" In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God called the light day, and the darkness he called night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." Genesis 1: 1-5

.      God is a person, and though he is invisible, he is the ultimate personality. God is love, there could be no love for one another upon earth, except that God has extended his attribute of love toward us.

God is the supreme intelligence. God knows! There could be no knowledge of anything except that God has imputed that knowledge from himself to mankind. God sees all things, and God hears all things, and God is concerned   and cares for all his creatures.

.      "He who made the eye, can he not see? And he that made the ear, can he not hear?". God sees, God hears, and God knows, there is nothing hid from him. No man can hide from God, whether his deeds be good or evil. God is holy and all righteousness is in him.

God hates sin and will eventually judge all sin. God has chosen to reveal himself to mankind in several different ways. He has revealed himself in nature, in his creation.

.      "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. there is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard." Psalm 19:1-3.

There is no excuse for any intelligent being on earth not to know that God is, and that he is the creator of all things. God has revealed himself to mankind through the Holy Scriptures, The Holy Bible.

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." 2 Timothy 3:16,17.

"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." 2 Peter 20,21

If one would ask, who is God?, Then let him look to the heavens and observe and admire the glories of God's creation in the universe, in the stars and the galaxies. Let him look at the birds, the bees, the flowers, the animal kingdom and see the intelligent design of an intelligent creator. If one would ask: Who is God? Let him search the holy scriptures, the word of God, The bible, for therein God tells us who he is and what he requires of his creation.

When God revealed himself to Moses on Mt Sini and gave him the ten commandments, he said to Moses: "I am that I am".

God requires holiness, "Be ye holy as I am holy." God's requirement for the human race is that they have no other God beside him. "And thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

God has finally revealed himself in the person and incarnation of his only begotten son, The Lord Jesus Christ. No person can know God, nor approach unto God except by and through him.

"God, who at sundry times and in divers manner spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they." Hebrews 1: 1-4.

If one would ask: Who is God? Then let him lift up his eyes, and behold the only begotten son of God, the perfect lamb of God. God who is spirit, took upon himself a human body in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, who is the Christ, the Messiah.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men,. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." John 1: 1-5

.      All men and women, boys and girls, who have ever lived on earth are by nature sinners, having inherited the sin nature from our first parents, Adam and Eve. Because of this fact, the bible tells us that we are born estranged and separated from God, and consequently unless we are able to keep all the laws of God perfectly and attain unto his holiness, we are all condemned to be eternally separated from God and spend eternity in a literal Hell.

No man ever lived on earth who could measure up to the holiness of God except the Son of God. Only in him is perfect rightiousness and holiness. The word of God the bible tells us that God in his love and mercy looked down upon the lost condition of mankind and that: "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3: 16.

Who then is God? God is our creator, our source, our beginning. God is God, the "Iam, that I am". He is the one that loves us with an everlasting love, and is not willing for any of us to perish and be separated from him forever. God never sent anyone to hell and he never will. If we should find ourselves eternally confined to the horrors of hell, it will be our own fault, because two thousand years ago, born in a stable in Bethlehem as prophesied by the prophet Micah, was Christ, the Perfect, sinless lamb of God, who came to take away the sin of the world, God has promised that whosoever will believe in him, and ask him for forgiveness, and receive him into their heart will be forgiven and will be given the gift of everlasting life

.      The scripture warns us: "Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?" Hebrews 2: 1-4.

This then, should answer the question - Who is God? Before it is eternally too late won't you turn to Christ and accept him as your own personal Lord and Savior?

An Enemy of Our Enemies!

Thought For Today - July 17, 2024
An Enemy of Our Enemies!
By: Robert A. Searles

"Behold, I send an angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then will I be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries. For mine angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off. Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images. And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water, and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee." Exodus 23: 20-25.

God is here speaking to his children, Israel, and making a covenant with them for their future welfare and well being.  I believe that these promises apply to all God's children everywhere: Those of us who have been truly born again, and grafted into the commonwealth of Israel, his people whom he loved, and chose to be the apple of his eye, and the nation through whom would come the Messiah, our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

God said that he would send an Angel before them to keep them in the way, and to bring them unto the place which he had prepared for them.

The bible says: "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and that he would give his angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways."

Jesus said: " I go to prepare a place for you", and that he would come again and receive us unto himself so that we would reach our desired haven.

We are told to be conscious of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and not to grieve him or provoke him Oh! How well off we are when God is the enemy of our enemies: Our spiritual enemies such as, sin, fear worry, sickness, disease, poverty, depression, failure, and our final enemy, death. God has promised to bless and prosper us if we will love and serve him only, and have no other Gods before us.

Does God Forget Us?

Thought For Today - July 16, 2024
Does God Forget Us?
By: Robert A. Searles

Read Psalm 22: 1-31.

" My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken Me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them." Psalm 22: 1-4.

Even as David prayed and wondered why it was that it seemed that God had forsaken him in his times of great distress, we sometimes pose the same question.

This prayer of David was a forerunner of the prayer of Christ when he was hanging on the cross. In his humanity he cried out: "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?".

When we are in pain or troubles, and it seems that no help comes, does it not seem that God has forsaken us? In these times of darkness and desperation we must keep trusting and believing God and we shall be delivered.

This psalm was prophetic of that which Christ would suffer and be temporarily forsaken by God the Father when he was dying on the cross - it was for me and you and all the rest of mankind so that God our Father would  never forget or forsake us. Praise God!

God delivered David from the hand of Saul and made him a great king, and God delivered his own son, the Lord Jesus Christ from the power of the grave, and gave him power over death for all of us. So, even in darkness we must keep our faith in the promises of God and continue to live in the light of his word, and be assured that we will be delivered.

Pray For the Salvation of Others.

 Thought for Today - July15, 2024

Pray For the Salvation of Others.
By: Robert A. Searles

"Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." Romans 10:1-4

Paul's heart's desire and concern for his fellow countrymen, Israel, was that they might be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth of the way of salvation.

They knew about God, and had heard about God, and they talked about God. They feared the wrath of God, and had a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. They were trying to establish their own righteousness by their good works and trying to appease God and give God a reason for saving them, not realizing that the righteousness of God is so great and far above anything they could ever imagine and achieve, that no one but God himself could measure up to it. They could not see that Jesus, the Christ ,was the only person who could and did fulfill all the requirements of the law of works, and was willing to impute his righteousness to them if they would only believe, and confess him as their Lord.

Our heart's desire for all our relatives, friends and loved ones is that they might be saved. Many of our friends, relatives, and loved ones will tell you that they have heard about God, they know about God, and may believe that God exists and fear the wrath of God; consequently, they are going about trying as hard as they might to establish a record of righteousness with God by their own good works that will please God, and earn them a place in God's heaven.

If we want our friends, relatives, and loved ones to be truly saved and enjoy the blessings of eternal life in heaven with God, somehow we must reach then with the true message of salvation. God will not be satisfied with anyone's good works or good deeds and will not be influenced by them, because none of our good works and deeds can measure up to his righteousness which is in Christ.

Christ alone could measure up to the righteousness of God and is willing to impute his righteousness to all who will believe for their salvation. He paid the debt that is owed to God for our sins, and none of us can , by any amount of good works or good deeds, pay for our sins, for we are all sinners, both Jew and Gentile alike.

The only way that anyone can be saved is given to us in verse nine of Romans 10: "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
