What Good Thing Shall We Do?
What good thing shall we do that
we may have eternal life? If we would enter into life we must keep
and obey all the commandments of God. There has never been any
person on earth who has been able to keep and obey the commandments
of God without fail except the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, when
God looks upon us, he must declare that: “There is none righteous,
no, not one. There is none that understandeth, there is none that
seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are
together become unprofitable, there is none that doeth good, no, not
one.” Romans 3: 10-12. All have failed to keep and obey the
commandments of God in one point or another, if not in deed, then in
the thoughts and intents of the heart. Therefore, if left to
himself, mankind cannot inherit eternal life because: “The wages
of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus
Christ our Lord.” Romans 6: 23.
Our only hope for salvation is in
the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of God,
who kept the laws and commandments of God perfectly and obeyed the
Father in every point of the law. The Lord Jesus, the perfectly
obedient son of God offered himself for us as a sin sacrifice so that
we, by receiving him as our Savior and sin sacrifice could enjoy
everlasting life.: “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew
no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2
Corinthians 5: 21. “For God so loved the world that he gave his
only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish
but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.
The only way that we can have
eternal life is through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. No other
way can measure up with God.
“And behold, one came and said
unto him, good master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have
eternal life? And he said unto him, why callest thou me good? There
is none good but one, that is, God, but if thou wilt enter into
life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, which? Jesus said,
thou shalt do no murder, thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt
not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness, honor thy father and
thy mother, and thou shall love thy neigfhbor as thyself. The young
man saith unto him, all these things have I kept from my youth up:
what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, if thou wilt be perfect, go
and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man
heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great
possessions.” Matthew19: 16-22.
