Thought For Today – January 6
In What Do We Trust?
By: Robert A. Searles
“ Hear this, all ye people, give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world: both low and high, rich and poor together.” Psalm 49: 1,2.
No matter how wealthy one may be in terms of money, or possessions, or the esteem of men, or their position and status in society, they could never in all of eternity have accumulated enough wealth to pay for the debt they owe to God for their own sins and iniquities, or to redeem another person.
“They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches:- none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him.” Psalm 49: 6,7
The cost of man's redemption is infinitely beyond any calculated amount required, and is precious – so precious that all the wealth in the entire universe is not enough to pay for one drop of the blood that was shed for the salvation of mankind – that of the Lord Jesus Christ. "(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever) that he should still live forever, and not see corruption.” Psalm 49: 8,9.
Rich men, poor men, and wise men die, likewise, as the fool and brutish person, whether rich or poor, wise or foolish, if thy die still in debt to God for sin, they perish and are as the beasts and leave their wealth to others.
“For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.” Psalm 49: 10
But freely, God offers by grace, and grace alone, without works or money, that precious free gift that can not be purchased – that one drop of our Savior's blood that was shed for the remission of sins, and grants eternal salvation and eternal life.
“Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money, come ye, buy, and eat: yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? And your labor for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live, and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David” Isaiah 55: 1,2.3
Won't you be wise, and not foolish, and receive by faith the free gift that God has to offer, and boast not in your riches, good works, and self righteousness?
