Love Not Sleep!
By: Robert A. Searles
It is not the will and intention of God for a person to be in poverty
and to be destitute. Sometimes, but not always, poverty and lack of
necessities is the result of our own laziness.
"The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing." Proverbs 20: 4.
Sometimes God places opportunities before us of which we do not take
advantage . We are prone to making all kinds of excuses for not doing
that which we know we ought to do, whether it be working for a living,
or working for God to win souls for him. It is sin to try to find
excuses for laziness. Sometimes some of us are too lazy to read and
study God's word, and sometimes we are too lazy to communicate with God
through prayer and meditation , for this takes effort on our part.
The
end result of our laziness is lack and want. When God gathers his wheat
and separates the tares, ( God's harvest), he who has been lazy will be
ashamed and beg in the time of harvest.
"Love not sleep lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread." Proverbs 20:13.
Food is necessary, and sleep is necessary, but we must not over indulge in either.
