Thought For Today - October 2 The Folly of Trusting Riches - By: Robert A. Searles
"Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world; both low and high, rich and poor, together." Psalm 49: 1,2"
"Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about ?" Psalm 49: 5
"They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: that he should still live forever and not see corruption." Psalm 49: 7, 9
"What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? Shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah" Psalm 89: 48
"For he seeth that wise men die, like unto the fool and the brutish person perish and leave their wealth to others." Psalm 49: 10
"Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue forever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names" Psalm 49: 11
"Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling." Psalm49: 14
"But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave; for he shall receive me." Selah. Psalm 49: 18
"Man that is in honor, and understandeth not, is like the beast that perish." Psalm 49: 20
It is God, and God alone who gives the power to get wealth. All riches received from him is great blessing and meant to be shared and enjoyed; but riches accumulated through devious ways apart from any thought of God is unprofitable and will usually bring folly and a curse.
