God's Advice When We Need to Control Our Tongue

God's Advice When We Need to Control Our Tongue
By: Robert A. Searles
"I said I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked be before me." Psalm 39: 1
"He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander is a fool. In the multitude of words, there wanteth not sin: But he that refraineth his lips is wise The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is of little worth. The lip of the righteous feed many; but fools die for want of wisdom" Psalm 10: 18-21
"Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man, but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man." Math 15: 11
"My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. Behold, we put bits in the horses mouth that they may obey us, and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth even so , the tongue is a little member and bosteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a littled fire kindleth and the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity; so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and it is set on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beast; and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind, but the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father, and therewith, curse we men, which are made after tue similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessings and cursing. My brethren these things ought not to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? Either a vine, figs? So can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh." James3: 1-12

God's Advice When We Feel Cheated

God's Advice When We Feel Cheated
By: Robert A. Searles
"Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: If he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he wilt not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. and if he shall neglect to hear them , tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and Publican,"Math 18: 15-17
"Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? And if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels, how much more things that pertain to this life? If then ye have judgment of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are the least esteemed in the church. I speak to your shame. Is it so that there is not a wise man among you? No, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren? But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers. Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded? Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren. God's Promises When We Desire to Learn How to Pray

God's Promises When We Desire to Learn How to Pray
By: Robert A. Searles
"And Jehashaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court, and said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? And in thine hands is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee? Art not thou our God; who didsr drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever? And they dwell therein and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name', saying if, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence ( for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help, And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not; but Behold I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit. O our God, wilt thou not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee." 2 Chron 20: 5-12
"And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corner of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily, I say unto you, they have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to the Father which seeth in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."
" But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: For your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask him. After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. "
"For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Math 6: 5-15
"And Jesus answering, saith unto them, have faith in God. For verily I say unto , that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive. If ye have ought against any; that your Father also which is in heaven mayforgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses." Mark 11: 22-26
"And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they wee righteous, and despised others. Two men went up into the temple to pray; the oned Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God I thank thee that I am not as other men are, extortioners; unjust; adulterers; of even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes ofall I possess. And the publican; standing afar off would not lift up as much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: For every one that exalteth himself shall be abasewd;and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted." Luke 18: 9-14
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made know unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus;" Phil4: 6,7

God's Promises When We Wonder About Spiritual Gifts
Thought for Today - May 18
God's Promises When We Wonder About Spiritual Gifts
By: Robert A. Searles
"For I say through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith, for as we have many members in our body, and all members have not the same office: so we being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing, according to the grace that is given unto us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; or ministry, let us wait on our ministry: or he that teacheth, on teaching; or he that exhorteth, on exhortation; he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness." Rom 12: 3-8
"I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ, that in every thing ye are enriched by him in all utterance, and in all knowledge; even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you; so that ye came behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord." 1 Cor 1: 4-9
"Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethen, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the spirit the word of wisdom, to another the word of knowledge, by the same spirit, to another the gift of healing, by the same spirit; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and self same spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. For the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members are of that one body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ. For by one spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free, and have been all made to drink into one spirit. For the body is not one member; but many. That there should be no schism in the body but that the members should have the same care, one afor another." 1 Cor 12: 1-14;25
"As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifest grace of God. Jf any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth; that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever: Amen " 1 Peter 4: 10-11

God's Promises When We Need Assurance of Salvation
By: Robert A. Searles
"Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him. I will set him on high because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation." Psalm 91: 14-16
"Who is a god like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He retaineth not his anger forever, because he delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities, and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depth of the sea. Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and thy mercy to Abraham. which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old. ." Micah 7: 18-20
"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the son of man be lifted up; that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, tha whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, , neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth, cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God." John 3: 14-21
"Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. But I know that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. Jesus saith unto her, thy brother shall rise again. Matha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believeth thou this?" John 11:21-26
"And at midnight Paul and Silias prayed, and sang prises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly theree was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately, all the doors were opened, and every one's b ands were loosed. And the keeper of the prison awqaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew his sword and would have killed himself, suposing that the prisoners had been fled. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, do thyself no harm; for we are all here, Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling and fellk diwn before Paul and Silias, and brought them out, and sid, sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they wsaid, believe o9n the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be3 saved, and thy house. And they soaje ybto him the word of the Lorde, and to all that were in his house. Ane he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their wgtripes; and was baptised, he and ll his straightway. And when he had brought them into his house he sat meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with ll his house." Acts 16: 25-34
"If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God, which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself; he that believeth not God hath made him a liar, because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the son hath life, and he that hath not the son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye my believe on the name of the Son of God."1 John 5: 9-13

God's Promises When We Need Comfort
By: Robert A. Searles
"And in that day thou shalt say, O Lord I will praise thee; though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away and thou comfortedst me. Behold, God is my salvation,, I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation, and in that day shall ye say, praise the Lord, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people,, make mention that his name is exalted. sing unto the Lord, for he hath done excellent things; this is known in all the earth. cry out and shout, thou inhabitants of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee." Isaiah 12
"Comfort ye, comfort ye my people saith your God. speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished. That her iniquity is pardoned ; for she hath received of the Lord's hand double for all her sins. The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, prepare ys the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God; every valley shall be exalted,, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked shall be made straight, nd the rough places plain: and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. The voice said, cry, and he said what shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and al the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field. the grass withereth, the flower fadeth because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The the grass withereth, the flower fadeth; but the word of God shall stand forever, O Zion that bringeth good things, lift up thy voice with strength: lift it up, be not afraid: say unto the cities of Judah, behold your God. Behold the Lord God will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold his reward is with him, and his work before him. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall greatly lead them that are with young." Isaiah 40: 1-11
"Hear the word of the Lord, O ye nations and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, he that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd his flock, for the Lord hath redeemed Jacob and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he; therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the Lord, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock, and of the herd: and their soul shall be a watered garden, and they shall not sorrow any more at all. Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy; and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow." Jer 31: 10-13
"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; the father of mercies, and the God of all comfort. who comforteth us in all our tribulation that we may be able to comfort them whih are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us in trouble, so our consolations aboundeth in Christ, and whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same suffering which we also suffer; or whether we be comforted,, it is for your consolation and salvation. and our hope of you is steadfast, knowing that as ye are partakers of the suffering so shall ye be also of the consolation." 2 Cor 1: 3-7
" Nevertheless God that comforteth those that are cast down comforted us by the coming of Titus. Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea and exceedingly the more joyed. We further joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all." 2 Cor 7: 6, 13

"Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all." Psalm 34: 19
"For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief." Prov 24: 16
"The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him." Nahum 1: 7
"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulations; but be of good cheer: I have overcome the world." John 16: 33
"The spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit that we are the children of God: and if children then heirs: heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him that we may be also gloirified together." Rom 8: 16-17
"For what glory is it if when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? But if when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God: for even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps." 1 Peter 2: 20-21

God's Promises When We Grieve
By: Robert A. Searles
"Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.," Psalm 119: 49-50
"Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant. Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.: Psalm 119: 76-77
"Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow." Jer 31: 13
"Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." Math 5: 4
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice; and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow because her hour is come, but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now, therefore have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you." John 16: 20-22
"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. for this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord wherefore comfort one another with these words." 1 Thes 4: 13-18
"And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him;and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, if a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him." John 14: 21-23
