The Righteous Shall Flourish Like the Palm Tree
By: Robert A. Searles
"The
righteous shall flourish like the palm tree; He shall grow like the
cedars in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord
shall flouish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth
fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing to show that the
Lord is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrightreousness in
him." Psalm 92: 12-15.
Who is there that can qualify as to being
righteous so as to "flourish as the palm tree"? None of us, to be sure -
"As it is written, there is none righteous, no. not one." Romans 3:10.
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23.
There
is only one truly righteous person in all the universe who can qualify
to be blessed with this promise, and that is Christ. When we believe on
him and confess our sin and receive him as our savior, then he, by his
grace, is more than willing to forgive our sin and cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
Then God imputes his perfect righteousness to us,
and sees us only as being clothed in the righteousness of his beloved
son, The Lord, Christ Jesus.
Our righteousness consists only in
the righteousness of Christ if we have accepted his offer of cleansing
and salvation, and only as we abide in him and he in us can we claim
the promise that "we shall flourish like the palm tree and be planted in
the courts of our God"
