Because He Loves Us!

By: Robert A. Searles

Because Christ loves us and gives himself for us, let us show our gratitude, and by his grace and with his help, follow his example as hereto set before us:

"Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:  Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.  Use hospitality one to another without grudging.  As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.  If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."

Suffering as a Christian

" Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.  If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.  But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.  Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?  And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?  Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator." 1 Peter 4

God Does Not Lie

Thought for Today - Apri l2

God Does Not Lie  -   By Robert A. Searles
Calling God a liar is a grievous and dangerous sin.  God has manifested his word in the person of his son the Lord Jesus Christ, and he has made known his word through  the printed  page and through the foolishness of preaching.  He has given us the prophets and the apostles.   More importantly, he has given us the witness of the Holy Spirit.
When  we worry we are doubting the word of God, which if we examine it carefully, we find gives us full assurance of God's love and care and protection for us.  Doubting the word of God is akin to calling God a liar.  This is a grievous sin and keeps us from enjoying the peace  and comfort and the entering in to God's rest that he has prepared for all who will believe.
Before we can enjoy the peace and rest of God, we must take the testimony of the prophets and the apostles, and the witness of the holy Spirit, and the teaching and example of our Lord and Savior, and allow the word of God to dwell in our hearts and be mixed with faith that God gives us to believe, and we need to encourage ourselves and others in the promise that God said it, I believe it, and that settles it forever.
“Let us therefore fear, lest a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.  For unto us was the gospel preached as well as unto them:  but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.  For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, as I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.,” Hebrews 4: 1-3.
"Take heed brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.  But exhort one another daily, while it is called today; lest any of you be burdened through the deceitfulness of sin.  For we are made partakers of Christ.  If we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end.  While it is said today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.” Hebrews 3: 12-15

Does God Forget Us?   By: -  Robert A. Searles

Does God Forget Us? Read all of Psalm 22:1-31 "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly.Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help." Psalm 22:1-11

This prayer of David was a forerunner of the prayer of Christ when he was hanging on the cross. In his humanity he cried out-"My God,My God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

When we are in pain or trouble, and it seems that no help comes, does it not seem that God has forsaken us? In these times of darkness and desperation we must keep trusting and believing God and we shall be delivered. God delivered David from the hand of Saul and made him a great king, and God delivered his own son, the Lord Jesus Christ from the power of the grave, and gave him power over death for all of us. So, even in darkness we must keep our faith in the promises of God and continue to live in the light of his word, and be assured that we will be delivered.

Glorify God

 Thought for T   oday  -   May 26, 2022

Glorify God  -   By Robert A. Searles

“ Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who only doeth ondrous things. And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen!” Psalm 72: 18, 19.

Our primary purpose on earth is to glorify God. We are told in the scriptures that we are to glorify God at all times, but how shall we glorify him at all time? We glorify him by our praise of him and all his wondrous works. He is worthy of all adoration and praise. We are told that God inhabits the praise of his people.

“Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.” Psalm:  22:23.

We glorify God by our good works. Our good works alone will never gain us entrance into the presence of God and heaven, but once we have been justified by our faith in the finished work of the sacrifice of Christ, our good works ought to follow as a result of our gratitude and desire to glorify God.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5: 16.
