ADAPTATION OF TRUTH TO THE WEAK
By: Robert A. Searles
Jesus said “ I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Jesus was and is the truth, and he taught truth . In order for the weak to adapt to truth, it had to be presented in ways in which they could understand. Jesus taught truth by using parables.
“And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.” Mark 4:33
Human weakness necessitates patience. Some people are more able to grasp the truth of the Word of God than others. Not everyone is at the same level of maturity, and need to have truth presented to them at their level of understanding.
“I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear then now.” Jesus said. John 16:12.
Very simple truths must be taught to the spiritually immature. “I have fed you with milk, and not with meat; for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet are ye able. 1 Corinthians 3:2
New born lambs must be fed with food suitable to them as they are able to digest it, so new born lambs or babes in Christ must be fed that which they can receive. It is the duty of stronger more mature Christians to feed the new born lambs.
“So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simion Peter, Simon, son of Jonas; lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, yea Lord thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him feed my \lambs.” John 21:15.
Some are unable to receive deeper truths. “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that we teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk and not of strong meat.” Heb 5:12
There have to be different messages presented to different classes of people.
“ I write unto you fathers because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the father. 1 John 2:13.
Paul’s example of presenting truth to the mature and immature: “To the weak became I as weak that I might gain the weak; I am made all things to all men that I might by all means save some.” 1 Corinthians 9:22. - -
