Used of God!
BY: Robert A. Searles
, God uses for his purposes, the most unlikely people to do his work.
Billy Sunday, an alcoholic, God saved, and he became a great evangelist,
preaching the gospel of Christ, and the evils of alcohol. John Newton, a
notorious slave trader, alcoholic, self proclaimed libertine, was, by
the grace of God, saved, and became a great preacher of the gospel, and
gave to the world his confession in song, the beautiful hymn: "Amazing
Grace" and many others.
Saul of Tarsus, the great persecutor of the
early Christians was met by Christ as he traveled to Damascus to bind
and imprison Christians, and given the great commission to go to the
gentile world, and be a witness for Christ, and there after became known
as the great apostle Paul, who was responsible for planting churches
everywhere he traveled. "And Saul, yet breathing out threatening and
slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
and desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he
found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring
them bound unto Jerusalem. And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus:
and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: and he
fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why
persecutest thou me? And he said, who art thou, Lord? and the Lord said,
I am Jesus, whom thou persecutest:It is hard for thee to kick against
the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said Lord, what wilt thou
have me to do? And the Lord said unto him ,arise, go into the city and
it shall be told thee what thou must do." Acts 9: 1-6.
What might
God have for us to do for him? If we are saved and in communion with
God, the Holy Spirit will speak to us, and tell us what we are to do.
