The Tongue!

The tongue - an instrument of blessing, or an instrument of death and destruction, death and life are in the power of the tongue depending on how we use it.  We can use our tongue to praise God and bless  all those  whom we deal with each day, or we can use this small but powerful  weapon  to curse, slander, and destroy one another. and blaspheme the name of our heavenly father.  Too many times when we are gathered in small groups, if we are not careful, we turn our tongue loose and engage in "hen-picking" conversation and finding fault,, and prying into the private lives and affairs of others which we have no right to enter into, and in so doing, tearing down their reputation in the mind of their peers.  We are told in the word of God that slander and gossip is sin in the eyes of God. "The eyes of the Lord are in every place beholding the evil and the good."  Likewise, the ears of the Lord are in every place listening to the evil and the good.  What does the LORD see and hear from our tongue?  

“If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.”  James 1: 26

"My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!"James 3: 1-6

"A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent. In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble."Proverbs 15: 1-6
